  1. Did he sing the high harmonies too? Definitely a solid rock guitar player. Who doesn't love some arena rock now and. Seeing them in the early 80s must've been awesome…before we heard all their songs a million times on classic rock radio :-) Incidentally, their first few albums before hitting it big are some nice 70s rock.
  2. Yeah, I was kind of leaning toward going, but am not gonna buy a ticket. If I feel like it, I'll head down to the arena night of the show and pick up a 20 dollar ticket. I have a feeling there will be lots of extras. I'm kind of exhausted with all the post-Dead stuff at this point. Why doesn't Bob just use JK and do Furthur? I'll never understand using a revolving cast of characters when they really needed to play with the same folks in order to get tight etc. Good jamming gets over shadowed by lack of cohesion and everyone looking at each other, 'is this the change?'
  3. Sweet. I thought those were solo shows. Thanks so much.
  4. I might be missing them, but are there any Tweedy shows in the Roadcase?
  5. @Shug, Yeah, they did dress goofy, but I loved it. Phil just looked like a dorky dad. People just didn't understand it. It was awesome! What's interesting is that the Heads kind of adopted this hippy look, when no one in the band was really a hippy. Garcia had longer hair, but he mostly work pants and a t-shirt. My favorite Bob outfit is of course the late 80s when he was wearing the shorts and those aerobic socks with Reebocks. I think those were women's shoes. I'll ask again, anyone seriously thinking about the Dead and Co tour? I watched some of that 77 show Mayer did with Phi
  6. What's amazing about them was that there was no shtick. Just dudes who played the way they wanted to play without any real agenda. Garcia's sound, for example, is just so simple-sounding. No gimmicks like speedy riffs, distorted hard rock etc. Then Phil who plays bass like it's some sort of orchestral hybrid instrument. I could go on. Interesting. Tickets haven't officially gone on sale, so that might change. Maybe the demand will be from folks who weren't able to go to FTW and people who did and want more.
  7. http://www.deadandcompany.com Dead and Co. full tour. I'm surprised they are playing such large venues. Will they be able to fill them? Not sure many Mayer fans will want to see him play Dead tunes. I kind of want to go to this. Oteil is pretty great and we'd definitely get a good drums/space.
  8. I forgot about the Kottke albums. I definitely had Clone at some point. Need to check those out again. Also, as far a solo stuff goes, I really loved that first Vida Blue album.
  9. I found a matrix of the Santa Fe shows. They sound great. The mix is so much better than the live feed. Bruce is way up there. Trey really did fit in well, now that I listen back. That Viola Lee was a highlight. God bless the guy. Had to basically learn most of the Dead catalog and immediately headed out with Phish…who, incidentally, played a bunch of new tunes!
  10. Anyone delve into Mike's solo stuff. I heard some pandora it sounded great. I think I might pick up Green Sparrow. Definitely had more of a Phish sound than Trey's stuff. I really liked Trey's first solo album, but didn't warm up to the last few. Traveler was pretty good. I have a feeling Paper Wheels will be pretty good…from the initial tunes he's released. BTW, how about that encore at Dick's night 3? Pretty fun.
  11. Would Maiden be considered prog-metal? They've got some great epic-type songs. Great stuff.
  12. The fact that you know all this stuff is pretty cool. I wasn't into Bruce at the time, but I remember hearing Human Touch all over. I also vaguely remember seeing the unplugged and being confused why he wasn't with the E Street Band…especially since his most recent E Street record was his biggest. I do think some of the songs from Lucky Town would've made a good EP to hold over till Tom Joad and then the massive Rising comeback. Pretty amazing comeback.
  13. Human Touch is pretty bad. Lucky Town had some good tunes I thought. The interesting thing about that album is that every song starts with that reverse guitar strum close to the bridge. I thought I read somewhere that those albums were like songwriting experiments for Bruce. "57 channels and nothing on."
  14. Yes, Sing Me Back Home…good one. Cold Rain and Snow Broken Arrow Take Me To The River You Win Again
  15. Last night was fun. They are definitely repeating a lot of songs, but this has really let them grow in to the current jam style. Phish has always been totally unpredictable when it comes to set lists (unlike the Dead), however, tunes seem to be find their spots more and more to pretty good effect. So, what's the potential track list for the new album?
  16. I actually love that album. Need to get that out. The goofy early 90s graphics are great.
  17. How dare you! Next thing you be saying that Big Generator was bad too! I actually like 90125 as an album, but it doesn't seem like Yes. And, Yes has released a lot of junk. To me, the nadir was Union with the band not really playing on half of it. Still some good songs though. I loved Division Bell. It's no Animals, but still pretty good. Lots of Richard Wright on there. I'd say Waters post-Floyd stuff might fit this topic.
  18. I've not read this article, but I totally know what you're saying. I love that people out there are getting to see the boys in their various incarnations over the years. But for me, yes, the music was the main attraction. When the music was great, then the scene was just icing on the cake. That's why I liked JGB shows. Everyone there was there for the music…for the most part. The other part of this is that I worked so hard to become a credible Deadhead and I think the 'scene' is at fault for that…and me and my teenage identity crisis. Gotta look a certain way etc. But when the music
  19. Yeah, really sucks. I'd like to have seen what they would've done with the SV 2.0 stuff. Trace is at least one of the best albums of the 90s…at least.
  20. Saw them at the first Furthur Fest. They played few Dead songs. Totally rocked. Hidalgo is an excellent guitarist and would've fit in well with the post Jerry Dead. If you wanna go deeper, check out Hidalgo's side project Latin Playboys. Experimental Lobos!
  21. What are the Boquist Brothers doing? I bet they wanted the same or more slice of the pie given that they and Jay WERE the Son Volt sound.
