  1. I love the song Gaucho. that's a pretty good album with Hey Nineteen and Babylon Sister (shake it!)
  2. cool. i had a their first album in the late 90s jamband height. i recently wondered what they were up to. neat when a band reinvents itself.
  3. didn't the soundboard line-ins stop after Healey left. wonder what that dude is doing these days. i remember an interview with him for early 90s in Relix where he predicted that a head would able to just about order any they wanted on CD. he was basically right, except for the CD part
  4. right on about the GD movie Eyes. i love that jam they did at the end in 74. seems like they wrote it with the actual song, but didn't put it on the album. need to revisit that Roosevelt Eyes. btw, i wish i had heard lazy lightning too. i'm surprised they played as long as they did into the 80s. it's a tough tune to play.
  5. that's saying something when you've been to all those 70s shows and the best set you saw was in 90. pretty cool. i loved jerry band. those shows were so great. mellow lot scene and no surprises, just 3 hours of garcia playing guitar!
  6. yeah, spotify has been great for checking stuff out before buying it. it can be overwhelming though. basically everything at your fingertips :-)
  7. i'm familiar with that half-step. i never 'wanted' to hear that tune, but when did, i was very happy. need to check out that sugaree. i'll do it after i know the kids are asleep so I can have a whole 17 min. uninterrupted
  8. you guys are cracking me up! i can see myself contacting rounder and demanding to know why the Mermaid set hadn't come out yet!
  9. BRENT! i'd love to see what he's got written down on those notes on the piano and organ. probably chords for random tunes the boys might bust out?
  10. i gotta go check out these Help/Slip/Frank's. when they first busted it out, they kind of jammed more on Help.
  11. i'd love to see ben gibbard do some more alt. country type stuff. i wonder if he was asked to be involved in the New Multitudes project.
  12. this release has inspired me to re-visit Tom Joad. i wonder if he will ever release the country tunes that he has mentioned that were recorded during Tom Joad. that would be interesting.
  13. i'm holding out for crazy horse. probably try and get a cheap ticket for springsteen's opening gig here in atlanta. after that, maybe try to get a cheap for the wall. none were to be had last time he was here. other than that, hopefully son volt. oh, and hopefully RUSH this summer!!
  14. true, for collaborations and tribute records, this is one nails it. i just hope against hope to hear something from jay that tugs at my guts the way Tear Stained Eye or Ten Second News did/does.
  15. he can be tiring at times. he seems to enjoy playing the newer songs and slogs through the old ones. i think he's kind of a lazy live player and his singing has really gotten lazy. at the same time, some of his tunes, even on the last few records, have really moved me. the urgency of the Trace era is gone. he peaked early.
  16. more evidence that spring 93 was a good run. just watch jerry in this video. he's actually awake and moving :-)
  17. the guy was a criminal. why did anyone ever pay attention to him. the media never ever indicted him for his fake videos etc. he and his coverage are a great example of the corp media's inability to school the public, but to keep them anxious, afraid and complacent.
  18. i'm sure we'll get an extensive tour of the south with the new album. definitely atlanta. did they hit noog with the ACD tour?
  19. they are his 'tunes' not his words. as for my previous statement, his songs are growing on me. nice release. i wonder if this was initially gob iron II or if that's another project.
  20. i could kick myself for how many times i've missed son volt since '96. i never got around to seeing them til 09 as well. did see jay solo and it was amazing. i think son volt may be a mellow show this tour as their new guitar player is older and definitely in the old school country vein.
  21. yeah, pretty good. '93 was definitely a pretty good year, comparatively.
  22. jakob dylan should take a crack at the guthrie archives.
  23. so much is lost on the internet i was just in a sarcastic mood. my point about Waits was that some of production on Women and Country has a Waitsian feel. jakob is a solid songwriter.
  24. i've listened through a few times. it's not blowing me away, but it's interesting. jay definitely saves his best tunes for son volt/solo stuff. i don't think you can compare this and mermaid. different beasts. i do like some of the production on this. also, listening to this, i think jay should start singing songs in a lower key. his voice kind of peters out when he sings tenor.
  25. I'm learning Help/Slip on guitar. i'm gonna get it, but it's taking a lot of practice. of course, Franklins is no prob
