  1. Right...I did listen after my daily dose. Didn't It Rain sounded good too.
  2. for me they are more of a hot and cold band. some days i just can't get enough. other days, i want to shoot someone if i hear them. most of the big prog acts are that way with me. so who do you like crypt? :-) just went back and listened to this again, and it is damn near perfect.
  3. this is exactly why i started this thread. i have done the same thing with several artists. there's so much buzz around that i feel i need to work so hard to Get Into Them. maybe i just need to hear the vinyl, then i'll really get it and i'll i have new favorite artist i can become a completist with....!!!! it's just crazy and i've been doing it for years. the shadow side of music fandom :-)
  4. haven't listened to the black mountain yet. pretty good eh? that brad mehldau album is excellent. .
  5. thanks. i got so tense when he forgot the title of his first song. sounds good though and i love that jumbo guitar he is playing. he's just one of those artists for me. oozes TVZ! ironically, not a huge fan of steve earle:)
  6. Farewell Transmission and Hold On Magnolia are great songs. Love the drums on that record. Liked the first song on that Molina Johnson album. As far as Decemberists go, they have some great music and production, but the singing is an obstacle. Their new tune with Gillian Welch singing is pretty good.
  7. i mis typed. i meant season 2. lila was very annoying. one of the issues i have a hard time with is that if dex was a real sociopath, he would have no feelings at all. none. but, this is tv. yeah, there's a lot to deal with. like the end of season 3. i can see it being underwhelming. why do we always get hooked:)
  8. i loved just a little light live. that middle spacey jam was fun and jerry with his auto wah a la fire on the mountain. easy to love you in the first set was awesome. the one i could have done without was I Will Take You Home...out of space?!!
  9. i will check those shows out. there are def some gems from the last few years. i liked bruce in the band too, although it could be a bit much at times. however, he really ignited jerry to do some crazy stuff...Scarlet-Victim-Fire comes to mind:) as far as brent's rhodes goes, i liked it up until 82-83. by 85 it was just so tiny sounding, like a toy piano. he could play a phat B3 though. Vince never had any real instruments up there. all synth. live, vince was fun. i liked samba and way to go home. wish they were in the first set though. the first UT albums are def harder for
  10. i'm with you on all points. i prefer GD 87-90. i can't listen to anything much after that. i loved brent. i like brent's first few years too. the thing about the dead for me is that i listened to them 24/7 for almost 15 years and just don't listen much anymore. i still love garcia's guitar though. just give me a loop of his sugaree solos and i'd probably be okay. oh and AMan, again the voice or reason. why do i even try to get into stuff. you like what you like. i need to make a list of like my top 10 favorite artists and stay with them. that's more than a life time's of listeni
  11. yeah, same thing. i like the sound of those albums, but just can't listen to an entire album of it.
  12. Thanks for this list. A lot I haven't heard and am gonna check out soon.
  13. Autumn Defense-Once Around Great record.
  14. these are all great examples. i love the production of the last radiohead album, but i just don't really like the songs. i keep revisiting them to see if it will click, to no avail. as far as jack white goes, i love his guitar sound, but the shtick gets in the way for me. i only like a few white stripes songs. i'm sure they'd bee good live. other bands like this for me are MMJ and drive by truckers. its funny, wilco, jay farrar and neil young just blow me away, but i can see how folks don't 'get them'. music is ultimately subjective.
  15. one for me is jason molina. i love his whole magnolia electric co set up and his instrumentation and lyrics. however, i can never get through an album of his. i love that song 'dark don't hide' it, but nothing else by them nails me like that song. what else?
  16. i'm with you on these points. maybe luman won't die, but disappear. i wonder if deb will find her out and let her go but take next season to figure out it was dex who was helping her. trinity was def better than season two, but i thought it just dragged to long and lithgow overacted just a bit. it was fun though. the worst season was #1...oh man that woman!!
  17. i wasn't under the impression that it was BAD, just that they each had other ideas of what they wanted to do. i'm sure gary was pissed when mark left, but that allowed him to go in the more pop direction. i'm glad they're back together too
  18. right. i was unaware that gary is like 10 years older than mark. gary is 55. he could've been in a 70s punk band.
  19. Rainy Day Music is excellent. Maybe one or two songs too long for me, but all the songs are good. I really like O'Reagan's tunes on that album. Nice prelude to his great solo album. Hope he gets a track or two on the new album. That would mix things up a bit.
  20. that neon indian album is really fun. sounds like a 5th generation tape of songs you recorded off the radio in 1984 just as top 40 FM was becoming all dance.
  21. el goodo is kind of tough, but doable. great list. was listening to bach's bottom last night. half great, half unlistenable.
  22. so you're comparing smile and SOL to human touch/lucky town? nice one. so which would be lucky town? anyway, i'm kind of on a jayhawks revival and hope to revisit those albums in the near future. i think if i can focus on gary and his guitar then i'd like them more. i've tried several times, to no avail. i know some folks just love those albums. I'm Gonna Make You Love Me is a great song though.
  23. that's what i was thinking. i guess they aren't interested in it as it has been reissued and some of the tunes were re-recorded for HTH. wonder if they'll reissue Sound of Lies, Smile, and the last one, can't remember the name now. Rain something? i really hope they tour in the spring. i'd love to see them.
  24. thanks AMan. i'm rounding out my collection and didn't want to get it if its going to be coming out again.
