  1. didn't know where to put this. link to a study of p2p that finds that music accounts for smallest percentage of illegally downloaded 'stuff'. porn is number one. second link is to a story about the shut down of a bunch of torrent sites. i don't torrent anymore. it was a huge waste of time and i never listened to/watched half of what i downloaded. i'd much rather spend $15 on a CD or DVD i really really want. http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2011/02/torrent-study-shows-surprising-results-1.html http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2011/01/mpaa-shuts-down-50-torrent-sites.html
  2. i'm not sure if it's new or vintage. i've really missed his electric playing. he's def. got his own sound. to me it's like a nice mix between neil young and clarence white. tasty licks:) btw-great comment about smile and rainy day music. although, i've grown to love smile.
  3. yeah, great song and classic sound. the band does look so focused playing though. jitters maybe
  4. great article. it's fun to think about the album that would've come after TTHGG. would've had a bunch of those demos that ended up on the gary/mark album. i'm psyched about this new one and hope they tour the south.
  5. love that video. see a band play makes more interested. i'm getting a Television vibe from them. don't know why. gonna check them out :0
  6. well, it's sounding pretty good to me. it's a nice break from DBT. i need to take a break from them. Isbell is def more singer/songwriter on this one.
  7. what's interesting about that last album is the posies tunes are so much better than chilton's toss offs.
  8. big star's last one was horrible. does it count though? i couldn't put them in this category as i think Third is not so good. although not a fan of these: coldplay white stripes radiohead one that i am a fan of...Jayhawks! what's interesting is that most of these artists had a short run, 5-10 years. i remember doing some work on creativity in grad school and research shows that most 'artists' have a creative period of about 5-10 years and then have a resurgence for a few years before the end. interesting.
  9. What is Let Me Come Home? do you mean, let's not get carried away? anyway, i wonder if this is in the works. we haven't heard any rumblings of a new wilco album for the spring and i wonder if they owe warner one more album. mmm?
  10. Let Me Come Home? How about My Words. i would love to have a nice package of these, minus random alternate takes and live versions.
  11. at the end of this alex is playing and awesome little jig on a twelve string acoustic. if they would drop that into the middle of a new song the fans would go apeshit. it's like they don't feel like they have to prove themselves anymore. oh well.
  12. right. even talking abt witch hunt or at least camera eye would've been cool. camera eye is kind of a bookend as it's the last long tune they wrote. oh well, it was fun, but boring and nothing new. now, watching the snakes and arrows doc it's clear the boys have very little idea of production and mastering. i'd just love to hear them dry in a room play all those songs. i'm sure it would be so much better. YYZED!!!
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2mzkaSyv_8&feature=related making of snakes and arrows. pretty neat. funny how ged says at the beginning that they wanted to get the best drum sound 'ever' on this album. so ironic. his drums haven't sound that great on an album since signals. neat video though.
  14. watched the classic albums. pretty cool. i wish they'd discussed vital signs and the Fear suite. i'm curious about that. also came across some of the extras from the documentary. one was what the guys do on tour to not go crazy. so boring they show ged's baseball collection which is ridiculous. he's obviously bored with his money.
  15. i'd also like to see some live albums done the old way, with edits and mastering etc. i know that's not a popular view, but i really like without a net, jerry band live. it would be cool to get a double disc of nuggets from the latter years or something. there was at least 1 or 2 gems at each show, even when garcia was basically not there.
  16. AMan got me into this too. i've watched a bit on 2112. streaming is jacked up a bit. i've never really gotten the whole 'story' behind 2112, so that is cool. also, Ged's characterizing Rand's work as a template for art was refreshing. i have severe reactions to her. i don't care for the lyrics of Anthem. putting down 'bleeding hearts' etc. now, jff, netflix is kind of blowing. i recently went back after a year off and it is just a mess. especially the stuff that is randomly taken off streaming. it's similar to music. there is not one stop shop for streaming or downloads. no o
  17. yeah, instead of doing a bunch of dyan, they do a bunch of neil young
  18. i wonder if the setlist will change. they are playing different venues so probably not. i can see them dropping the snakes and arrows tunes and putting in the trees and/or another standard like dreamline. the second date is 5 hours from me in my brother's town. i may go.
  19. that sounds like a good read. for some reason i prefer the post david crosby years. easy rider is a pretty decent album. i like their take on It's All Over Now Baby Blue. i could listen to clarence white bend strings all day. that nashville west album is a nice showcase for him.
  20. this is me, except for the vinyl. i keep wanting to just sit and listen to music rather than it be an add on to another activity. so i got a little portable cd player and hooked it up to some nice computer speakers. as i said before, i just tend to actually listen to the music when it's on cd, rather than digital device. it's like i'm committed to it somehow. i do this in the car. i'm listening to stuff over and over again...something i haven't done since high school.
  21. does anyone have or have any info on their self-titled album. i assume it's quite a rarity, but i'm curious about it.
  22. well, it's all shifting. my point was that it's a mess out there. there's no one stop shop, unless you go for cds. that's the avenue i've been taking for the last year. i listen to the music so much more when it's on cd rather than on my ipod.
  23. so i've been snowed in for several days. been researching music etc. (i love to listen to song samples and make lists of artists etc.) i've found some peculiar things. amazon has all but deleted song samples for albums that are not available in mp3, which is a lot. at the same time, several DBT albums have disappeared from itunes and amazon. other artists have some stuff available online, but not all (van morrison). and of course several BIG artists are not digital at all yet (AC/DC, zappa, def leppard, bob seger, kid rock). as far as kid rock goes, he is touted to have made more money w
