  1. i probably shouldn't have said it that way. i just think there are lots of really good players, but none stand out. those that do stand out to me seem to come from the traditional or progressive bluegrass side...fleck, bush, grisman, etc.
  2. http://www.ajc.com/news/ronnie-hammond-60-ars-873696.html i love classic rock and love ARS. nice smooth 70s sound with a bit of hard rock and southern rock thrown in. living in georgia and driving through doraville everyday, i'm often reminded of the band and that great tune. once heard patterson hood do a rant in the middle of a song about seeing ARS amps for sale at a pawn shop when the 70s died. sad to hear of his passing. loved his voice.
  3. i'd say a lot of the jamgrass folks are not virtuosos by a mile. after doing some research, bluegrass bands seem to be a dime a dozen. the good ones climb to the top it seems. another interesting genre is the indie bluegrass types like Chatham County Line. fyi, my recurring interest may be subsiding
  4. he has so many damn live albums now. are they worth tracking down? i've been listening to the first RHP album a lot lately. so good, if a bit bloated with Fun House and Mother.
  5. i like the older stuff too. there are so many jamgrass bands it's overwhelming. i think i need to just stick with tony rice, david grisman, and bela fleck for now. that should keep me busy:)
  6. i see what you're saying. what's interesting is that there are a shitload of new bluegrass bands. not to mention the bluegrass type jambands like yonder mountain. anyway, time to let the thread die
  7. cool. i've seen grisman several times and really enjoyed it. hope to see tony rice this fall. bela fleck was another great show. Not a huge old crow fan. i know they had an album produced by dave rawlings a few years ago.
  8. that's funny. maybe unconsciously? i actually was interested in what kind of guitar Tony Rice plays and found this picture and on a whim decided to change my avatar. incidently, i plan on seeing tony rice in the fall and will probably pay $25
  9. i'm having a personal resurgence of interest in this stuff. was really into david grisman and jerry garcia stuff as well as bela fleck in the early 90s. now i'm just LOVING tony rice. god damn that guy is amazing. too bad he doesn't sing anymore. i'm gonna pick up that famous JD Crowe New South record he was on and from there who knows ;-) so, any fans, recommendations, etc? btw-one of the things i really like about this scene is the professionalism and collegiality.
  10. well, just because an artist could ask for more money doesn't mean they should! neil has never been one to give back to the fans, unlike wilco, radiohead, etc. i just love neil, but feel so far removed from him. i'm glad there's opportunity to really be a part of a scene these days with more of a collective of artist and fans.
  11. now it's compression we have to worry about! us music fans can never win. i'll believe this when i see it. now, i thought some of the original tracks were used in the 2004 disc? i liked the first movement on that disc, but the rest sounded like an original cast musical recording. i wonder if they'll add some vocals like springsteen did to his latest release? anyway, this speculation stuff is fun as hell.
  12. he opened the last tour. still not worth $200 though. however, if they can get away with it, they'll sell anything for the most they can get.
  13. A Treasure is supposed to be a live release of neil with the international harvesters circa 84-85. hope it has Grey Riders. great song from that period.
  14. dude, that's funny. one of my biggest pet peeves is people who get music info wrong (title, artist, etc.) and don't care! sometimes i try to correct them, but it takes a lot of explaining. people just don't want to hear it. that's probably the problem we have with politics in this country...willful ignorance. ftw, concert tix are way too high, especially neil, i don't care what the excuse. paid $15 to see autumn defense a few months ago. utterly amazing and would've paid $30. high prices do alienate fans and it's those who usually can't afford to go that go and are in the hole...all f
  15. saw this over on the web 0.0 rustlist... "On the Hippodrome website, it states with every two Ticketmaster tickets purchased, fans can choose a free copy of "Le Noise" or "A Treasure". Interesting, I guess we know now what the next release will be, Some live Harvesters!" interesting.
  16. can you imagine all this super compressed cock rock with just random garcia noodling over top. might actually be interesting.
  17. I wish we could find out if it's gonna be the same show as before. if it was gonna be purely acoustic and at least 20 songs, i'd go. as an aside, it is just EVIL that concert tickets are more than $50 after service fees. Utterly ridiculous.
  18. what's interesting is that garth always looked like hell. to me, anyways.
  19. wonder if it will be the same set from the le noise tour?
  20. jff, that is funny man. actually, i think hagar is a friend of mickey hart. the red rocker came out to sing with the other ones once. very weird. heads don't give shit about cock rock. oh well.
  21. sounds groovy man! god, he is such a hippie. so, neal is in there now. sounds good.
  22. cool. i need to check some of those out. skeptics guide to the universe is another good, well, skeptic one. i need to hear that nerdist with Zake. WTF is good with mark maron, although he's not for everyone.
  23. listened to TBTD today and it just flew by. today, it was a great album! santa fe is such a good song.
