New Neil Young album - with Crazy Horse!
Fritz replied to Vacant Horizon's topic in Someone Else's Song
Is there a Via Chicago (forums and such) equivalent for Neil Young fans out there somewhere? -
I second the mention of Warren Ellis. Tim Rogers is another one. Funny one liner from Mark Snarski (The Jackson Code) when his microphone stand was slowly drooping during a song: "Ah, that's just like a night with me in the sack."

A premature comment as I'm only three songs in but I'm really, really enjoying Americana. -
The first album I ever picked up turns 25 tomorrow..

That is a truly beautiful story. -

I've been watching this today. Jerry's 70th birthday tribute show from Bob Weir's TRI Studios. There's some very nice music in this two hour selection of highlights. http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/live/watch-move-brightly-tribute-jerry-garcia-full-four-165009059.html;_ylt=Avl0SeMvOgy5PDxVlP6zQS3Nfoh4;_ylu=X3oDMTNucWZhazNwBG1pdANUUkkgSnVtYm90cm9uBHBrZwM5YThlNzRmMy04NTYxLTNhZTQtYmVkNS0zNzQwZmM1M2JkYTUEcG9zAzEEc2VjA2p1bWJvdHJvbgR2ZXIDNjcwMWYxMDAtZTBkMi0xMWUxLWJlNGEtMTUwMzVlMmFjYzMw;_ylg=X3oDMTFlamZvM2ZlBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdAMEcHQDc2VjdGlvbnM-;_ylv=3

Couldn't sleep early Saturday morning so got up and watched this. Very engaging story and beautifully filmed.

Agreed.

Thanks for the direction, Mr Beltmann. I appreciate it very much. I will seek these out. My local library only has one more I haven't seen - Cries and Whispers which I shall watch next. After that I think it's on to Ebay.

Such a powerful film. I felt like I was taken on a journey, so absorbed in it I was. Beautiful imagery and brilliant acting.

Excellent, thanks for the tip on Bergman Island. I will definitely be seeking this out. Going to watch The Virgin Spring tonight.

I've not seen many Ingmar Bergman films at all so I'm having my own little Bergman-fest. Fanny & Alexander is quite beautiful. Long, lingering scenes, wonderful story and stunning sets and costumes.

I'm only three chapters in but there have been plenty of chuckles already. I shall indeed report back on the SImon Callow show. Hopefully I'll finish this book before the show so I'll at least know what he's talking about when he's referencing this Dickens novel.

Just finished Tess of the d'Urbevilles which I absolutely loved. Such beautiful writing. Next month we're going to see English actor Simon Callow do a spoken word show on Charles Dickens (which I'm really looking forward to) and, never having read any of his novels, I've just started:

What did you think of this, Gogo? I haven't read it yet but am intrigued.
-
That's a good enough recommendation for me.

Ha yes! There was a music shop in Sydney that had a sign banning prospective guitar buyers from playing Smoke on the Water, Stairway to Heaven and The Needle and the Damage Done.

Always fun to see a couple of old guitarists hamming it up.
