  1. As A-man said earlier Calvin College Chapel show back in '05, when Glen opened.
  2. Yep, it's a shame a recording never surfaced. I recall seeing at least one mic stand in the crowd that night.
  3. In the immortal words of Sgt. Hulka, "Lighten' up, Francis." And as an aside, I am still looking for a recording of that Tweedy show in the Chapel. . . it still might be the best concert I ever attended.
  4. The show was cancelled because of the band's name. Yet they let Tweedy sing "The Ruling Class" in the chapel.
  5. The Hold Steady are coming to Kalamazoo . . . and playing at The Strutt?!?!? Seems like a really small place for them, but it will probably be a really great show. Too bad I will feel out-of-place with all the kids that hang out there.
  6. Now this is how you strike the pose! GO BLUE!!! BEAT UMass!!!
  7. I swear the Ford's must have done some really bad shit back in the day for the Lions to be this cursed. Not only were they robbed on the the pass to Calvin, but what do you want to bet that Stafford has a dislocated shoulder and will be out or playing at less than 100% the rest of the year? All that said, I'm glad I put big points on da Bears in my pick-em confidence pool this week.
  8. WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DENARD FOR HEISMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO BLUE!!!! WE BEAT THE IRISH (again)!!!! BEAT UMass!!!!!
  9. First hand observations from a fantastic Saturday in A2: * There must have been a momentary dust storm during the pre-game festivities because my eyes started watering when this took place http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUZr-9NdOwY&feature=player_embedded * Good Lord is Denard Robinson fast. And it was amazing watching how much his passing accuracy and pace has improved from last year. If it wasn't for the last incompletion, he would have set a Michigan Stadium record for pass completion percentage. I guess he is just going to have to settle for setting the single-game rushing recor
  10. This is just another example why I'm proud to be a fan and alum of the University of Michigan. For those who don't want to check out the link, the older brother of one of Michigan's offensive linemen who was given a 1% chance of ever walking again after a car accident will be walking out of the tunnel and under the banner at the head of the Wolverines this Saturday. He has spent the past year rehabbing and training with the help of the strength and conditioning staff at U of M. Go Blue!!! Go Brock!!! Beat UConn!!!
  11. Keef, the man of many talents, plays the sousaphone! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t228rxfVlk&feature=player_embedded
  12. Rumours swirling about the interwebz suggest the Big Ten(v.12.0) will announce the division alignments tonight, and that it looks like Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Northwestern in one division and Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois, IU, and Purdue in the other. Also, rumour has it that the U of M-tOSU game will continue to be the final regular season game for both schools. While I hope THE GAME continues to be the final game of the regular season, I think something will be lost if M and tOSU are split in different divisions. Hopefully the conference hon
  13. Good Lord, I just checked out the weekend's schedule and saw the GLENN FREY AND JOE WALSH are headlining Saturday night! What are the chances that the Wilcos stick around for another evening and join the former Eagles for a rousing and crowd-pleasing version of "Hotel California"?
  14. With the start of the season just a few days away, and the first of many trips down I-94 to Ann Arbor this Saturday, it is finally here . . . the long-awaited return of the mighty Michigan Wolverines to a winning season!!! I just checked Saturday's forecast and they are predicting highs in the upper 60's and abundent sunshine. I can't wait. GO BLUE!!!! BEAT UCONN!!!!
  15. I just had a very intersting transition: Airline to Heaven (from KT) where Jeff introduces the next song as "another sensitive ballad"----->Stones Monkey Man, the perfect antithesis to "another sensitive ballad". Now if only Wilco could do that the next time I see them, that would be awesome.
  16. For whatever it is worth, this question made me think of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npjOSLCR2hE
  17. Here is a suggestion for an interesting little game we can play - what is the most suprising ommission from the list? Unless I am mistaken, I did not see Daydream Nation in the top 100. If I had gotten around to actually sorting my list (I did have a list but never got around to finalizing it, let alone submitting it), Daydream Nation would have been in the top 5 for certain. And thanks for putting this together Gogo. I really enjoy seeing that our collective taste is so awesome.
  18. I'm currently reading Brief Interviews With Hideous Men and just finished "Suicide as a Sort of Present". What a stomach punch of an ending.
  19. I'm not going to look for the last time this thread topic was done, but I said Brian Ferry's cover of Hard Rain is a Gonna Fall in that thread and I'm sticking to it.
  20. I'm going to make this real easy: 1-11(tie): Everything on Trace. 12-20 (tie): The first 8 songs on Trace.
  21. I just finished reading IJ for the second time (in 3 years). There was so much more that I got out of it the second time around. I'm sure in about 18 months when I go for round 3, there will still be more revelations. Now reading William McFeeely's biography of U.S. Grant.
  22. My bike was recently stolen. When the KGB catches the thief, will they send him/her to the gulag?
  23. 1. Nettie Moore - Dylan 2. Bob Dylan's 49th Beard - Wilco (no kidding) 3. I Wanna Be Your Dog - UT 4. Passenger Side - Wilco 5. Walken - Wilco 6. Guns on the Roof - The Clash 7. Dreamer in my Dreams - Wilco 8. Reservations - Wilco 9. Gone Daddy Gone - Violent Femmes 10. Alone, Together - The Strokes.
  24. I may be mistaken, but I think you might be referring to Carl Cassell. I wish I could find some footage of Schorr reading the enemies list and his reaction when he got to his name.
  25. NPR Obit Anyone who claims his greatest feat was making Nixon's enemies list is ok in my book.
