Well, as feared, I got home and my vinyl copy was warped into the shape of a topo map of the Andes. Totally destroyed. Kung Fu has a useless return policy, and trying to get recourse from US Postal Service is a non-starter. So I guess Wilco will be getting a double sale from me this time out. I better win that guitar. At least there's Spotify to hold me over until I can get to the record store.

Let's not kid ourselves. There's gushing after every release. Going back at least as far as WTA (after what many saw as the letdown of SBS), this forum has had people on release/leak day saying "Hooray, Our long national WIlco nightmare is over. Wilco has regained its footing."

Maybe for the added benefit of someone else winning an autographed guitar?

I guess Tim's departure is older news than I realized. Brandon Boone is the bassist they used earlier this year, and maybe still. https://www.jambase.com/article/tim-lefebvre-departs-tedeschi-trucks-band

I didn't hear about that. Who do they have now, and where did Tim go off to?

I haven't heard the record yet, but... This is something I've been thinking about. I am in the camp that wants more guitar. Electric lead guitar, specifically, and multi-guitar harmonized leads is even better. I may have tricked myself (maybe from seeing them live, where guitar soloing is usually plentiful) into thinking that is one ingredient that is most often missing from their records. But I have to remind myself that YHF, for example, has virtually no lead guitar, and it'll probably be remembered as their career defining album. Maybe Summerteeth is pretty light on lead guitar, to

Mine was shipped on the 1st, and tracking says it was delivered 15 minutes ago. (I ordered it last week....so maybe the more recent orders got shipped first?) Which sucks, because I usually get deliveries in the late afternoon, when I'm home. My front stoop is an inferno of all-day almost 100 degree direct sunlight. Not good conditions for a record to sit in until I get home at 5:30.

Scorpion an rattlesnake pits could work, I guess.

That was fantastic. I take back what I said in my previous post. Susan is a terrific singer, and I really enjoy hearing it now. The instrumental interplay is still the main draw for me, but her voice has really grown on me and she's proven to be an excellent front-person for this band.

Alligator filled moats. How exactly would that work in mountainous regions along the border?

Their latest Instagram photo makes it look like you're right.

Maybe easier in that it was more of a rock album, with a bit more variety and energy being generated than Schmilco. Those kinds of things tend to hold people's attention better than a lower key album like Schmilco. Also, it's a short record, so it's easier than performing an unfamiliar long record. And their release strategy was playing it in its entirely the day it was released, and streaming that performance. All these things add up to "we can easily get away with doing this." I only saw one show for Star Wars, but I was on the front row of the balcony. Looking down on the floor cr

King Crimson went on maybe ten minutes after ticket time when I saw them, but I suspect that was largely due to the venue fouling up the admittance process. If the Ryman is good at getting people into the venue, I would expect the band to start very close to the ticketed time. Robert Fripp is the least laid back person in music.

If it was a Trump casino, you probably won a lot of money. That's how casinos fail.

I suspect some carefully crafted wiggle phrases have been inserted in there that team Trump will use to cast doubt on his guilt. I love how Zelinsky's wording is either the exact same as Trump's speaking ("We're going to drain the swamp"), or is over the top flattery ("I can't wait to meet you in person," "We learned all our winning tactics from you."), as if Trump wrote the whole thing himself.*

I think we're about to get played. Yesterday felt good. That's how all cons start. Give your adversary a false sense of confidence, and then knock them down. It's suspicious that the Senate voted unanimously to release the whistleblower complaint. That is out of character for them. They know something. The transcript and complaint will be falsified or redacted, and the whislteblower won't end up testifying for any number of reasons, which leaves the democrats with nothing. Or perhaps the whistleblower was part of the con to begin with. But while the democrats end up with nothing,

This is shaping up to be a huge political week.

Wilco — 18 September 2019, Zurich, Switzerland (Volkshaus)
jff replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
This is great to hear I had tickets to see them open (as a duo) for Glen Hansard last week, but it was cancelled due to illness. I saw them last year as a trio and they were stunning. They're probably my favorite new(ish) band. -
I figured he was someone who works for them, or is affiliated with them in some way and is not just another rando forum user like me.

Isn't Bbop the guy who reviews every Wilco concert?
-
That's a fun video, and I like the song!
-
Yeah, there was a "What is Glenn running from" image on FB or Instagram. Looks like a video is about to come out.
-
This looks great. I haven't bought a magazine or CD in a long time, but I will to hear these songs.

That review definitely gives that impression. I'm still flimsily hopeful that that won't be the case. Hopefully there's something to this line: "Throughout Ode to Joy, Wilco thinks and plays restlessly."
