  1. I'm not certain, but I think my strat has three springs. I think Clapton does the 5 spring thing on his strats. That sounds like a simple, easily reversible option. Is there a good source for getting the exact springs I'd need?
  2. I agree, which is why I find it odd that the only tv stations that covered his speech (in the Atlanta, non-cable market) were ABC and the mexican channel.
  3. Title pretty much says all that needs to be said. The vibrato bar causes some tuning issues on my Mexi-Strat, so I'm thinking about locking it down. I've heard about putting a block of wood under there to prevent the bridge from moving, and maybe a couple other methods. Anyone know a simple DIY method, preferably that is non-permanent? Any other issues I should be aware of in relation to this? I know I could probably get this info from a guitar forum almost instantaneously, but I've been steered in the right direction on a bunch of instrument related things here, so I thought I'd te
  4. Whoa, when I first read this I overlooked the word 'knock-off". That would have been the best deal ever. Still, it sounds like you got a super fun guitar for a great price.
  5. In that case, assuming Parker would have to leave early, that presents an even cooler possibility...Nels sitting in with Parker's band.
  6. True, I see that as a crappy way to spend money though, since all Obama would get for the money is Hillary's endorsement...If that. Common or not, it smells of extortion to me.
  7. She also wants him to give her money to pay off her campaign debt. If nothing else, you gotta worship thos balls. If you read between the lines of the first "she's quitting" article, it looks like she might be planning on continuing her campaign against Obama, even if she is no longer technicallty in the race.
  8. Tomorrow is going to be an ugly news day if these reports are wrong.
  9. I switched back to the ebony pins the other day. I had been using D'Adario phosphor bronze strings since purchasing the guitar (someone on a guitar forum said they are good strings for parlor guitars), but my new strings are D'Adario 80/20s. According to the package, the 80/20s produce a brighter sound than the phosphor bronze. I find that to be true, as the combination of ebony pins with the 80/20 strings produce the same bright sound (to my ears) as the phosphor bronze strings with the brass pins. I wasn't satisfied with the phosphor bronze/ebony pins combination and the brass pins, desp
  10. I'd definitely expect to see Parker sit in with the Singers. I wish I could be there.
  11. Damn. How much cooler of a contribution can one person make to the world?
  12. I love my Deluxe Reverb (reissue). It consistently delivers beautiful tone and works well with every pedal or guitar I've plugged into it. I haven't had any tube issues yet, but I don't play it as much as I really want to. The tubes seem to be easy to access, so swapping out old tubes shouldn't be much of an issue (aside from having to buy them, and the possibility of a failed tube during a gig). My Traynor amp requires a LOT of disassembling to get to the tubes, and then some contortionist acts to install the new tubes. I'm not looking forward to replacing tubes in the Deluxe Reverb, b
  13. Wow, I've never been a fan of Bob Dole, but I never thought of him as an asshole, either. That's just pathetic.
  14. That's too bad you never go to see them do Reba. That was probably a highlight of my five or six times seeing them.
  15. As this book is basically my bible when it comes to journalism: http://www.michaelparenti.org/InventingReality.html, I understand what you're saying, but that's not even close to what happened in the Dunkin Donuts/Malkin scenario. Sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult. I just find Tugmoose's statement that I quoted earlier confusing and possibly contradictory (maybe I'm just reading it wrong). Usually advertisers influenece news organizations, not the other way around as in this case.
  16. The best part is, the rock he supposedly jumped onto is no better of a vantage point for a photo than where he jumped from.
  17. I'm not sure I'm following you. Typically it's the newspaper/news program that caves, and not the (potential) advertiser. Dunkin' Donuts, being a source of advertising revenue, was in a position to say "It's obviously just a scarf and nothing more. If you insist on equating us with terrorists we'll take our advertising dollars elsewhere." I know there's another thread for this, but I thought I'd chime in anyway.
  18. "Donut" is one of his best put-downs. Surely Dunkin' could figure out a way to use that in an ad campaign.
  19. He does a lot of gimmickry, like playing a banjo with a working toaster as a body, making toast while playing, and then using the toast as a guitar pick. Gimmickry or not, though, his playing is top notch. I saw him in a duo with Han Bennink and he played a lot of fairly straightforward jazz guitar. It was incredible.
  20. You could calm him down by telling him you plan on recycling the styrofoam and dumpimg the food into your "Mr. Fusion".
  21. Only to point out how widespread the attention is on this book. I could have pointed out that it has held the top 4 slots on Drudge since this morning, and is among the top stories on most of the major online news sources, but I think it's presence on this site is more telling than any of that. Again, my point is that the book would probably not have any presence on this website if it were complimentary of the bush administration.
  22. I'm not sure where you're trying to lead me with that question. Controversy gets attention, and that results in increased sales. Is that obvious only to me?
