  1. Not having read the book but heard him talk about it, I think he sees religion as supremely hypocritical (thus invalid) and a fearsome tool evil people use to manipulate the faithful. I think he sees it as a giant rip-off, both in a material and intellectual sense. And since the misuse of religion is really a clear and present danger to all of us on the planet, he thinks it's too important to take a live-and-let-live approach. I think.
  2. Yeah. Lincoln proves that judgment is more important than experience, by far.
  3. "Muzzle of Bees" at Wal-Mart, because I was singing it to myself after work tonight.
  4. You should move to Ulster County. You'd fit riiiiiight in.
  5. I guess you are! (Funny stuff, btw.)
  6. The completely correct view has not been found yet, despite a good 3,000 years or so of nonstop philosophizing, of which the debate on this board is a small part. Did you ever read Milton's Areopagitica?
  7. Dangerous, yes, but millions have been killed when people have failed to disagree strongly enough with another's morals and philosophies.
  8. Dude, I am not looking to score a point. I am warning you to the dangers of moral relativism taken too far. I understand you are suspicious of people's opinions and are tempted to dismiss them all at times, but, my friend, some things are right and some things are wrong.
  9. I dunno man. The morals and philosophy of the National Socialist German Workers Party were lies, no? Some things are bullshit and some things are not.
  10. And that is why Palin is to McCain as Bandit is to Cledus.
  11. Yeah. Blue states could make mad loot from red state girls coming north.
  12. Am I the U.S. government? If you want to sell your organs, it's OK with me. Shit, a kidney at retail would solve pretty much every money problem I have now.
  13. Wouldn't dream of it. This is, after all, America.
  14. Yeah it is. Anyone not bearing the child can only serve in an advisory capacity when that decision is made.
  15. If God says it is His Task, then what else does she need to know?
  16. They see their choice as the only acceptable choice, and if I believed aborting an in utero fetus was murder, I would agree. I don't, so I don't.
  17. Clearly, you have not grokked my "Sarah Palin is to John McCain as the Bandit was to Cledus" thing.
  18. Sure. She should be the next guess on Meet the Press. But that would interfere with the GOP's Bandit-to-McCain's-Cledus strategy.
  19. Is Oprah part of the conspiracy? Serious - the GOP would be crazy to let the press at her uncontrolled.
  20. Nope. If the federal government has no business in something, that thing should not be restricted by the federal government. Leaving it to states is as far as I will go, but reluctantly. Slavery was once left to the states, and that did not work out so well. Like the right to not be a slave, reproductive rights, in my view, are basic human rights which no government should hinder or take away.
