  1. A good editor would have caught that, but all the good editors usually get Sunday night off.
  2. OK. Viatroy, M. Chris, Reni, bobblejen, gary and Analogman. Very nice people, all.
  3. In the past, the mentally ill were removed completely from society, placed in gigantic institutions from where it was really hard to win release. That came to be considered inhumane; that it was hella expensive too played a part in the shift to community-based solutions. The advancement of medication made a lot of this possible. The guy's girlfriend said he had been taking antidepressants, which he stopped because they made him "feel like a zombie." My sense is that this guy had recognizable problems, but they didn't seem severe enough to warrant closer monitoring. There was also this from the
  4. I was going to make a joke, but this is not a jokey thread.
  5. With a gun for just about every American, I think the genie's really out of the bottle in terms of gun control. Frankly, I don't want a government with the power it would need to take everybody's gun away - a beast that would make Nazi Germany look like the Berkeley City Council. We have a much better chance to cut down on these kinds of things by beefing up mental illness treatment.
  6. Y'know, if someone must vote third party, it's hard to argue them out of it, but one would think Iraq put paid, finally, to the notion that there's no substantive difference between Republicans and Democrats.
  7. As sugar is to Splenda, U2 was to the Alarm and The Arcade Fire may be to BSP.
  8. Roe v. Wade, specifically, the power to appoint Supreme Court justices unlikely to overturn it, is a big, if not talked about a lot, issue this year. If the women of this nation want any chance at holding on to reproductive rights, they better pray a Dem wins the White House.
  9. I would say it depends on the context and it depends on the clown. Clownery is kind of a kinetic art - still photos don't do them justice.
  10. Like Eliot Spitzer, they may find themselves drawn to my Che poster.
  11. Hearing Don't Tell a Soul was one of the biggest disappointing moments of my music-listening life.
  12. Yep. All SW productions, whatever their flaws, were always the best-looking things around when they came out. Even the first Clone Wars cartoons were among the more attractive on TV at the time. But this really looks like crap - like a video game trailer. I object, strenously.
  13. I agree. I regret the fact that we have to have a military, but we have to have a military. And if you have to have a military, who has to be in that military?
  14. McNamee has on his side that his statements about Pettitte and Knoblauch were corroborated by the recipients themselves. We'll probably never know for a moral certainty - unless a specific specimen of the medical waste shows both Clemens' DNA and steroids/HGH.
  15. I forgot to wish you a happy birthday. Happy birthday!
  16. Best wishes to my favorite grammarian! Keep up the struggle, brother!
  17. Navy Intercepts Russian Bombers By LOLITA C. BALDOR
  18. "The issues" is not Obama's path to the nomination. His campaign is mostly about feelings, which overpower issues much more often than not.
  19. Instead of "Hail to the Chief," Hillary would enter to "Dark Star"?
