  1. Game 163 is considered a regular-season game.
  2. Part of the post-partisan era will have to be an improvement in journalism. The "get two opposing party hacks to talk at each other" thing really must stop, now. Journalistic outlets, especially broadcast, must do a better job of getting people who actually know what they're talking about on the air and turn the punditry way the fuck down.
  3. My take on it is that Lieberman's fate is not worth damaging the still-fragile we're-all-in-this-together feeling. Pick your battles.
  4. As much as it pains me to type this, the Phillies won the World Series. While Howard had an up-and-down year, he was big for them down the stretch, making him a quite valuable player.
  5. What a racket. Apparently the union leaders were no more cognizant of the non-sustainability of their methods than management.
  6. Oh man. They just said on CNN that UAW-staffed car companies pay $1,600 per car for health insurance costs, compared to $200 for the non-union Japanese companies who manufacture in the U.S. And, apparently when the Big Three lay people off, they have to pay 96 percent of their salary. I am as pro-union as they come, but holy shit. No wonder these dudes are up the River Fucked. I would most definitely peg any bailout plan to reworking these contracts so as to bring them in line with reality.
  7. I guess that dude owes that other dude a penny.
  8. 80 percent. I have a personal belief that unless you led your team to at least serious contention for the post-season (I don't think the Cards were ever really that close) then you are not the most valuable player of a league. Maybe they should devise an award for best individual performance, which I would gladly give to Pujols. As far as NL MVP (as I define it) I would give it to Manny Ramirez, who pretty much on his own got the Dodgers into the playoffs.
  9. He can put it in the same bill as the new tax code.
  10. Eh. Was St. Louis anywhere close to the playoffs? Not that valuable, in my eyes, then.
  11. I am really on the fence over whether there should be an auto industry bailout. The national defense aspect needs to be considered as well. If we do end up nationalizing it, like we did Wall Street, we should make them build hybrids that completely undercut Honda and Toyota in price and quality. No more of this SUV shit, unless they are hybrids. All they do is eat up gas and encourage their owners to think they are better than other people.
  12. What is the status of union contracts if GM, etc., goes into Chapter 11? Are they still in effect?
  13. He said on 60 Minutes last night he would appoint Republicans to cabinet posts. I THINK but am not 100 percent sure that we as a nation are ready to get past the Rovian way of looking at things and work together to address our problems IF Obama stays to the center.
  14. I heard on the TV that GM pays more money for its workers' healthcare than they do for steel.
  15. Maybe we'll be able to bait Germany and Britain and France into fighting a war so we can supply them with stuff. Then we can slip the Japanese a few bucks to bomb a naval installation - things'll really take off then!
  16. Yeah. Not really a stretch for her, but she did good.
  17. YOU ever lead a team to a 41-0 victory in the NFC championship game?
  18. I know! Maybe cigarette holders will come back in style!
