  1. World series MVP! In other news, Chris Carpenter is hurt again. Not much of a surprise.
  2. All of this Hawk & a Hacksaw hatred is about what I expected, but if you like Beirut/Kocani Orkestar/Neutral Milk Hotel, I would give them a shot. I have never seen them live, so maybe they are terrible, but on record, they are one my favorite bands. You just can't expect guitars and typical song structures.
  3. I never got into Lambchop really. Tried a few times. I would go with an M. Ward record and a BPB album and see where to go from there. As for which records...ummm. BPB: Lie Down in the Light, Superwolf, Sings Greatest Palace Music, I See a Darkness. Any of those, though they are cover significantly different moods. As for M. Ward, any of the last four, but I am partial to Hold Time, Transfiguration of Vincent, and Post War.
  4. Cardinals pitching is really surprising so far. Good to see. The team can obviously hit, but pitching was/is a giant question mark.
  5. I agree. The only thing that comes remotely close, in my opinion, are the Olivia Tremor Control records. And they are maybe halfway as compelling.
  6. Okay, so I got carried away. I just get upset when people display an ignorance of the working judicial process in favor of their own bigotry, insecurity, or faith.
  7. I like them, but wish some of the other E6 bands would be able to remove themselves from the Jeff Mangum shadow. For instance, during that Holiday Surprise Tour they did recently, once it became apparent that Mangum might be there, loads of people came out of the woodwork. And then they twiddle their thumbs through some really great sets by really great bands until their Lord and Savior makes his two minute appearance. And that is not to say any of those bands have made a record even half as compelling as Aeroplane, which is a treat and one of my top three records of all time.
  8. Everybody that has a problem with this is blatantly ignoring the separation of church and state (a sort of sickening trend several times more harmful than a handful of those crazy homosexuals getting married). I can follow your arguments only in the context of your relationship with a lengthy book written by a bunch of dudes claiming to know the will of god. And even then, it becomes clear you never read the book. You'll probably bake an Easter ham (forbidden), celebrate the holidays with a nice, big Christmas tree (forbidden), marry your brother's widow if they never bear children....okay, so
  9. If this is the case, I'm going to be swapping out the beer for blueberries. My memory is toast.
  10. I don't remember a particular reaction to that song, but given the obscurity of some of the other songs on the slate, I think he was probably relieved.
  11. I missed them (Cloud Cult) when they came around here recently, but they are something else live. Last time I saw them, about a year ago in Chicago, they said they were going on hiatus. Glad it didn't happen.
  12. I would love little more than seeing Tyler Hansborough cry.
  13. I have not said anything yet. This was all excellent. The entire night was something of a highlight, but a few things that stood out: Jeff and Hamilton's Fake Plastic Trees Jeff asking me if I had pubic hair yet Blood of the Lamb / Christ for President Barstool Blues How much shit I could break during two or three hours as a relatively non-clumsy person Good to see all of you people again. And to meet those of you that I hadn't previously. And thanks to everyone for being awesome at making food. Sweet Jesus.
  14. You are a left social libertarian. Left: 5.88, Libertarian: 3.68
  15. Iowa tends to be a bit more progressive than people ever give us credit for. I would guess that the amendment would hinge on Obama's performance and position in the polls in 2012 (the first time an amendment can be on the ballot). If liberals think he's got it locked up, they might not come out in droves. And something like a Mike Huckabee and gay marriage ban double whammy might drive a big social/religious conservative turnout. I am pretty sure that I have seen a poll from earlier, when this case was being deliberated, that showed about a 55/45 popular support for gay marriage. That numbe
  16. Aside from the wait times for a table, which can be extreme (I have waited over 2 hours), this place is amazing.
  17. I would say that Cutler's moves are a bit more egregious than Favre's. Less annoying, sure, but Favre never refused to play.
  18. The QB was a pretty huge issue. Haven't they had like 23 starters in 15 years or something? That sounds like a problem. Obviously they have other issues, but in my opinion, this can only help them in the long run. Given the mediocre state of the North, I would say it makes them an instant playoff contender.
