Interesting of him to pin the blame on his own daughter, yeah?

How can she deny it? That lady is crazy.

Apples in Stereo have been on there a few times. Awesome.

I voted (in this poll AND in real life).

Every time he has played it on this tour, he's played the song off the stage in the crowd. So the darkness is lack of stage lights.

I was at this. The crowd was awful for all of the other bands, minus a few people up front. The word, as they say, is apparently quite out. I saw Jeremy Barnes milling around before the show, so for the first time since '99 or something, the whole Aeroplane NMH lineup was in the building. Also of note, Robert Schneider played a couple songs. I think this was his first stop on the tour. And Engine did sound fantastic.

Of course it wasn't (I noted it was a political gimmick). That is why somebody like Palin has made it onto the ticket: all of these people are for abstinence only, no abortions anytime ever kind of policies that have a limited basis in reality. I sincerely believe that most politicians that are outspoken on this issue want to keep the number of abortions stagnant. If it gets higher, there is more pressure to actually do something. If it gets lower, they can't use it as an effective wedge issue. As it stands, it's just about right. They can talk a big game with no real outrage when nothing chan

You can argue, of course, that there are still too many liberal judges and that McCain would be in a position to change that. Not that I don't believe abortion has been little more than a wonderfully played political gimmick* these last few cycles. I'm just saying. *I know, I know. It's not a gimmick to those of you who want the ruling reversed, but as used by politicians, I'd like some proof that it is anything more than words.

I went to Catholic mass two weeks ago and two of the maybe five petitions were advocating for the Republican party, more or less. One was to protect the rights of the unborn, and I'm more than okay with that one (this is the example of less) being mentioned in church. The next one was for people to make good choices during the election season, with both abortion and abstinence being mentioned (this is the example of more). It is very hard for that second one not be read as vote for McCain because they didn't mention keeping our troops safe and alive (or civilians, for that matter), they didn't

Well, I might go buy some candy on sale after Halloween if I can make it to the store. We'll see. I like Halloween, just won't be able to be involved too much this go round.
-
I toasted some pumpkin seeds last night. That is about as into Halloween as I'm going to get.

I won't pretend to be an expert on the case here, but what he wants is the choice to be between women, their doctors, and their spiritual advisers. If the case is repealed, it would let states legislate against abortion individually. Christy didn't say anything about the "federal" government. She said government. You'd have to ask her, but I'm pretty sure state governments are also governments.

I know my mom got handed a little book with her bulletin that told her how to vote. As it turns out, abortion trumps every single issue. Mostly because innocent Iraqis deserved to die while unborn children did not.

While I think it was a moronic thing to say, it is pretty likely to happen. Technically, we're already in a global crisis. That whole "we need to stand with him because it's not gonna be apparent that we're right" thing crosses all sorts of line, though. Can you say pre-emptive war? I like Joe Biden quite a bit, but he sure has a penchant for saying exactly what shouldn't be said.

Hugh Hewitt is made out of plastic.

I think it is just Thursday and Friday. AP has her likely close to death? No good at all. Thoughts to the whole gang.

I already voted for Obama, so I should probably be in that pile.

I bought a ticket to tomorrow night's show in Chicago just on the off chance that I could find some money and get there. Hopefully it pans out.

Because foreign affairs has been our strong point the last eight years.......

Hold Steady. No contest. Well, Okkervil River is in there too, but I think they had an EP or album in '99?
-
I don't understand why you're so confident in that. That is all I'm saying. Bush and Rove have created a massive new coalition for the Democrats that is now and will be coming into voting age over the next eight years. If an Obama Presidency can convince, in the first term, a 20 year old kid that it is helping our country, I don't see that kid voting Republican any time soon. I'm 24. The years of my politically aware life have, incidentally, been the Bush years. My entire family is conservative, outside of my 26 year-old brother and me. Not a coincidence. How many more people like me are out t

And, bobbob, national polling numbers mean next to nothing in a general election unless the lead is absolutely massive.
-
This is why we all think the other side is crazy. Rather then actually answer my question (that wasn't directed at you anyway), you make a joke of it. There's a real issue there. In a number of ways there are two completely separate Republican parties. One that wants good things for everybody, and one that wants to convince stupid people that they will offer good things for everybody while creating a system that benefits very few. See Karl Rove for an example of the second type.

Bobby Jindal is now true conservatism? Same dude that attends exorcisms? And to be frank, Bush is exactly the same kind of conservatism that has dominated since Reagan: giant defense spending, little or no help for domestic programs (remember that ketchup as a vegetable thing?), trickle-down economics, etc. If conservatism was separated from the hoax that is compassionate conservatism, you are right (thirty years and Roe v. Wade still stands, the green movement has taken hold, gay marriage has yet to be "defeated," etc.). The next generation of conservatives, I'm confident, will be far more s
