  1. Again, the cause is our perceived separateness. What edifice? I mean the Pali scriptures come as close to transcending the culture in which they were written as any spiritual text I've read. And as near to perfect instruction as I have read. Other spiritual texts have at their core the same instruction. Words are tricky though, and the human mind is rather clever at manipulating the meanings to suit their own purposes. What I apprehend spiritually has come from personal diligent practice. I fear that your agenda would be to try and take that away from me. I fear that you want to throw out
  2. *sigh* Your questions are valid ones. Were I able to answer them (the questions which humans have sought to answer for generations upon generations), I would not be debating on a message board. You are blaming religion as the cause of conflict. I am saying that the wrong that is done in the name of religion is not the cause but the symptom. I am simply suggesting that we not throw out the baby with the bathwater.
  3. Give you enough rope and you shoot yourself in the foot every time. Wholesale or individual murder most often occurs for these reasons: POWER or PASSION. It is the detachment from these that spiritual practice exercises. I would argue that the desire for power and passionate response is indeed inherent in human nature, and is the genesis of most conflict. Not religion.
  4. Tabu was a band leader that made music more wonderful than all of the music in this thread even if you made a 3 cheese pasta out of it.
  5. The Skatallites Toots and the Maytals Tabu Ley Rochereau
  6. I have heard many people who espouse no Christian or other religious belief, say that fags should be strung up or otherwise mutilated. Everyone I have ever heard say those kinds of things WERE men, though. Hmm.
  7. Elizabeth is in Nashville today for her birthday. Tomorrow night she will be seeing Nickel Creek at the Ryman. This should be a particularly special birthday for her. Happy birthday my sweet!
  8. You did have to sit on the Group W bench that one time though.
  9. It really does. I say #2 is false.
  10. Sir Stewart and gogo are correct!
  11. 1. Of my great grandparents, two were circus highwire performers and one was an Indian princess. 2. I have a very long, soft hair that grows from the small of my back. 3. I have webbed toes.
  12. Another option for price point considerations is to buy a certified Apple refurbished MacBook. I bought mine a year ago and love it like a cherished book, and have not had a minute of trouble with it. Check out the deals, Sarah: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebO...lm=CertifiedMac Edit: I should not have started looking around on that link.
  13. Should have been called White Chalk On A Blackboard. I really wanted to like it.
  14. This was a huge hit at my brother's house at Thanksgiving. The mean age of the players was around 34, and for a while there was a waiting list to play. You and the kids will have a blast with it.
  15. Last night was a combined effort. I cleaned and milk baked 8 pheasant (under my mom's strict tutelage). Cheesy potatoes (Ben Roethlisberger's mom's recipe. He's from here.), zucchini and tomatoes. My son, his girlfreind and cousin came in a bit later. "There's such a good vibe walking into this house."
  16. Happy birthday Maudie! Presents and Thanksgiving? Sweet!
  17. I delight in cooking with my family and loved ones. And for me it's (as it is for most of life) more about the process than the product. It's metaphor. It's peaceful common ground. It's intensly sensual. Kitchen comeraderie is bliss. I wouldn't marry someone I couldn't cook with. That said, we leave this morning for my brother's house, where my brother-in-law's heavenly Huevos Rancheros have been promised upon our arrival.
