  1. Throw in some prosciutto and cappicola and that pretty much covers the 4 food groups, doesn't it?
  2. Speaking of cheese...my cheese and meat drawer kicks all kinds of ass: Cabot cheddar, feta, provolone, gorgonzola, peccorino, parmesean and I hate to say American, but that was for the grilled buffalo burgers. Also, hard salami and hot pepperoni. We eat like pigs around here.
  3. I'm fairly certain that there is nothing moldy in here (though the kim chee was supposedly buried under ground for a while.):
  4. Teriyaki sesame seed salmon burger (the kind from Whole Foods that has crack cocaine embedded in them), some fried potatoes and steamed broccoli. A nice glass of Steinberg white. Though it is going to take a while to get the mmm mole picture out of my head.
  5. And the other piece of this is that the capitulation to Sharpton/Jackson again comes out of an older generation full of "white guilt." As we move closer to at least the desire for true and balanced discourse about race, economic status, sexual orientation, and gender, guilt (and fear) becomes a moot point and genuine curiosity and compassion takes it's place. It's a start anyway.
  6. I give the black community much more credit than that. Imus is an old man with very ingrained old fashioned ideas. So are Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. The two journalists whose articles have been posted here are how many, many younger people view this incident.
  7. You think their hearts are made differently because they come from privileged backgrounds?
  8. "Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." Martin Luther King said this some years ago, and it applies to all of us, regardless of our color, gender or culture. I don't see anybody with clean hands on this deal.
  9. You tube has taken it down, but Crooks and Liars still has the video. There is still hope for media in this country as long as these guys are still writing about it: Daily Show Imus piece. Almost the bottom of the page.
  10. I love Jon Stewart and want to marry him. "With a backdrop showing the face of Don Imus and "GAFFE-FEST '07" emblazoned on it, Jon Stewart took a snarky Daily Show swipe at media obsession over shock jock Imus' controversial remark last week. Stewart barks, "Turning to our top story tonight: A guy on the radio said something shitty!" He shows Imus making the "nappy-headed hos" comment, then shows a montage of various news figures repeating the phrase, ending with one on Fox News saying "nappy-headed whores." "I believe that last gentleman didn't have his facts correct," quips Stewart. La
  11. fan. boy. called me a nappy headed ho.
  12. Awww. I missed meeting you all very much. Ginger is good for the tummy. I don't know if you ever make it up to the city, but I took a class at the Culinary Center in old Overland Park, and it was sooo much fun. Check it out. I'm thinking about doing another one soon.
  13. I don't have a problem with it. Yummy! Thank you, missy. Recipes duly saved.
  14. 1974? I still have the ticket stub somewhere.
  15. First album: Janis Joplin Pearl First real concert: Gordon Lightfoot
  16. The trees have no preference. Liberal or conservative carbon dioxide. It's all the same to them.
  17. Thanks for the well wishes. Obviously I am not the only gardener weeping over her garden. A weeks worth of night temperatures of 15 degrees happened all over the midwest in areas that had enjoyed 6 weeks of warm weather. My concern is mostly for the woody trees and shrubs. In the winter the stem and branch tissue is filled with anti freeze to keep the branches from freezing and dying back. Once the leaf pushing sap has risen and filled the branches, extreme branch dieback occurs. In conifers particularly the entire plant can die. I realize none of this is as important as a talk radio host
  18. Because my vocation is to care for botanical life, I have fought a depressed state for the past two weeks. It is unnerving to go out into my garden. For realz. Two weeks ago, this magnolia was covered in bright green leaves: One of my favorite hosta varieties, June, which looked like this: Now looks like this: Repeat these pictures hundreds of times, and that is the story of my garden. I have no frame of reference for this kind of damage.
  19. Just watched it on YouTube. Wow. I really dig the new album. Now I am extra jazzed to see him in a couple of weeks
  20. Bhan pho are rice noodles, about the width of linguine but not as thick. I was taught to soak them in water for 3 or 4 hours then toss them in the stirfry on top of the veggies and stir in. They shrink alot. On top of all that I throw whatever sauce I have made. Easy peasy. Years ago I took a Thai cooking class. We learned a couple of basic recipes. Pad Thai and non fried spring rolls w/ peanut sauce. Talking about Thai cooking earlier today made me want to take another class. We have the most wonderful little cooking school here. Classes are given by our reknown restaurant chefs and cookboo
  21. I have been on a roll and variation on a theme: stir fry veggies (asparagus, broccoli, carrots, crystallized ginger (omg), onions, baby portabellas) tofu (local made) and bhan pho. In a brown sugar/tamari/lime juice sauce. Honey hush.
  22. Have a terrific day, Brian. Good to see you every now and again.
