Uhhhhh... Much as I would have liked to get snowed on and jingle some bells, that wasn't me. But I'm pretty sure I know who you're talking about.
-
What'd they play?
-
Those performances you mentioned were all Jeff solo shows, so I wasn't really thinking of those. Looks like the last time the full band played I Must Be High or Candyfloss before this past week was at the very end of the "Evening With..." tour back in April 2010 (I Must Be High on 4/10/10 and Candyfloss on 4/11/10, to be exact). And hey augurus, it was nice to finally meet you in person...

For me, I'm A Wheel was less a surprise than both I Must be High and Candyfloss. Those were both played for the first time in a long time, I'm fairly certain. Possibly the first time this year, though I'd have to look it up to be sure.... I definitely enjoyed the trio that closed out the first encore. To me, Candyfloss>Standing O>I'm A Wheel is pretty much the band at its garagiest, if that makes any sense, and it was awesome! And then to have the Jesus of Cool come out and do Cruel To Be Kind with Wilco backing him and adding the harmony vocals and even that song's simple yet elegan

A nice high-energy show to lead into the Chicago run... The complete setlist, as played: One Sunday Morning> Poor Places> Art Of Almost IATTBYH> I Might Misunderstood> Bull Black Nova Black Moon Impossible Germany Sky Blue Sky Forget The Flowers Born Alone Capitol City> Via Chicago I Must Be High Pot Kettle Black Dawned On Me A Shot in the Arm Hummingbird -------------------------- Whole Love Passenger Side Heavy Metal Drummer Candyfloss Standing O I'm A Wheel ---------------------------- Cruel To Be Kind [Nick Lowe] (w/ Nick Lowe on acoustic guitar and lead vocals)

Huh? They didn't. It's on the setlist I posted above.

Yeah, this is kind of a strange thread, isn't it? It's good to read that more than a few folks enjoyed the show. Honestly, you wouldn't have known that it was anything less than a solid show if you hadn't seen a bunch of others before, so it's cool that the people who were seeing the band for the first time seemed to enjoy it. For the more experienced fan, certainly it wasn't the band's finest night ever but as I think I wrote earlier, we really don't always know everything behind why some songs might get cut off a setlist or the various machinations that go on with putting on a show. Yeah, forgot to mention that in my haste to post. Thanks for the reminder! Also I meant to say kudos to Nick Lowe, who changed up his set as much as I've seen him do throughout this tour with Wilco. This was his set, as played, in Milwaukee: Stoplight Roses Heart Long Limbed Girl Lately I've Let Things Slide All Men Are Liars I Live On A Battlefield I Read A Lot I Knew The Bride (When She Used To Rock 'n' Roll) Alison [Elvis Costello] When I Write The Book The Beast In Me

Well that was fun! Very rare to hear both Outta Mind (Outta Sight) and Outtasite (Outta Mind) in the same show, much less the same encore. I thought the setlist was pretty darn strong; it definitely kept me off-balance for most of the night, which I consider a good thing. Anyway, more later maybe. For now, the complete setlist as played: One Sunday Morning> Poor Places> Art Of Almost I Might Misunderstood IATTBYH> One Wing Rising Red Lung Impossible Germany Far, Far Away California Stars Kamera Born Alone Capitol City Can't Stand It War On War Dawned On Me I'm Always In Love ----

To slightly amend my previous post: Apparently what happened was there was an extra row of seats in the pit that wasn't anticipated when they ticketed the show, so the band and show organizers decided to use the opportunity to do a nice thing like upgrading people who had obstructed views or were seated in the back of the balcony. So one of the band's crew members was sent out to distribute these "upgraded" tickets. It does happen on rare occasions, as I mentioned. But I stand by what I wrote earlier about people not being picked based on their appearance or gender or age. And as for rusti -
I know for a fact that they did sell FastLane tickets for the Detroit show. They probably took the option off the ticketing page once they sold out of them. Who knows how it'll work, but I guess we'll find out soon...

The $5 bar early entry thing in Kansas City was something creepy done by the venue--the band had absolutely nothing to do with it--and that's why I think Jeff felt compelled to say something about it. The upgrading of people by representatives of the band is something I've only ever heard of happening once or twice at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago a long time ago when a few people who were sitting in the last row of the upper-most balcony got a nice surprise. But it's not something that happens often, so while I can believe it might happen, I'm still a bit dubious that what's being des -
Brilliant.

Yeah, I'm sure. I was mainly thinking of the Facebook message that the critic apparently got from someone and then posted in the comments section. I'm sure there's plenty of cranks on KC Star, just as there are on Brooklyn Vegan or any other Internet forum. It's an unfortunate byproduct of the anonymity the Internet offers...

Thanks for the further clarifications on the line shenanigans. It would have to be the owner (or a manager) who could have made the decision to let the bar crowd in first. People were yelling at security, but of course they were only doing what they were told (though clearly security had been lied to as well because they were saying the bar crowd were VIPs). Bottom line, though, it was handled in a bush-league way and it was cool of Jeff to at least say something about it. I do realize that some of the people up front were people who had waited in the rain as well and I felt badly that some

They play New Madrid from time to time, usually in Missouri or the general area. That's pretty much the only UT material that gets played these days, at least at full-band Wilco gigs.
-
A fun show, despite some shenanigans with getting into the venue that Jeff was kind enough to acknowledge and apologize for, even though I know he and the band had 100 percent nothing to do with it. I'll let someone else maybe explain further what happened, but I just felt bad for those people who waited in line for a couple hours out in the drizzle and should have been first in. I can imagine how bummed I'd be if I only got to see one show a year and really wanted to be up front and a venue stooge pulled something bush league like that... That said, it was no harm, no foul for the most part

You are a sweaty sort, it must be said. I hope to witness these incontinence pants someday soon, possibly next March? But anyway, I'm happy to report that the area near me was much less messy the second evening at ACL Live than the first, probably due to the fact there was at least some inkling that a reprise performance of Cruel might be coming when Mr. Nicholas omitted it at the usual point in his set... And I'm sure that someone will beat me there, M. Christine. I'm rarely actually first in line, contrary to popular opinion. See you there!

Nez means the harmonica, I think, and it was She's A Jar (though an actual harp on a Wilco song would be...interesting. Joanna Newsom doing anything these days? :-))

No OSM is one thing, but I can't recall seeing too many shows in the past nine years without both IATTBYH and Jesus, etc. Jeff had some funny banter about the Grammy nomination and how he just knew they were going to lose to the Foo Fighters again. Dave Grohl...what an asshole...I mean, really nice guy...I mean, asshole. Haha. He also used a Rickenbacker I hadn't seen before on I'm Always In Love. All in all, you couldn't really ask for much more out of a show.
-
Haven't directly posted a setlist here in a while, but this seems like a good one to make an exception... A fun set, much longer than their last ACL performance (and, it must be said, longer than last night's actual show in Dallas). The set closed with a surprise Cruel To Be Kind with Nick Lowe that wasn't on the setlist. I pretty much lost my shit at that point, so pardon me if any of that footage ends up making the cut. Also noteworthy was the return of Nels playing Duane Allman's gorgeous goldtop Les Paul. He used it on four songs, by my count: Shouldn't Be Ashamed, Whole Love, Impossib

Sorry, didn't mean to ruin anyone's experience by posting about other songs in the encore that were cut. If I hadn't, someone else who got one of the printed setlists surely would have. Fact is, this happens all the time (though I can't remember the last time quite so many songs got cut). Most times it's due to curfew reasons and that very well could have been the case last night as well. We don't know all of the machinations that are involved, so if you had fun, that's great for you. The band always puts on a good show and last night was no different. Could the crowd have been a little mor

I'm inclined to agree, at least with the awful crowd and dull set part. From what I could see, only one couple and maybe one or two others in the pit could even be bothered to stand up until the rest of the crowd stood to applaud at the end of the main set. It's just human nature that the band would be more engaged when the people in their immediate line of sight seem engaged, or conversely tune out a bit when people they can see seem to be tuned out. Of course, the band can put on a "professional" show with the best of them and most people would never know. But they did seem a bit detached to
