Wilco - Solid Sound Festival 08/14/10 North Adams, MA
bböp replied to u2roolz's topic in After The Show
Yeah, the cobbled-together Twitter setlist was pretty much almost right (nice job, Kristofor). But just for the sake of complete accuracy, here was tonight's set as played: —"The Price Is Right" theme music intro— Wilco (the song) Ashes of American Flags Bull Black Nova You Are My Face Hell Is Chrome IATTBYH> One Wing A Shot in the Arm Deeper Down Handshake Drugs Impossible Germany Someday, Some Morning, Sometime> Laminated Cat Cars Can't Escape> Wishful Thinking I'll Fight I Must Be High Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again) Jesus, etc. (crowd singalong) You Never Know A Magazine C -
Yep, Jeff joined Mavis on stage yesterday for two songs that appear on her upcoming record, the title track "You Are Not Alone" as well as Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Wrote A Song For Everyone." He didn't really sing and and only sort of strummed along on an acoustic guitar, seeming content to just be up there with Mavis and not wanting to interfere with her and her band. At one point, Mavis wished Jeff and the lovely srmt--"Susie Q and Tweedy," I believe she called them--a happy 15th anniversary. I would think that Mavis' set will be one of the highlights of Solid Sound next weekend.

I wouldn't count on it being anytime soon. They're still posting stuff they recorded down at SXSW in March, I think. But who knows? Maybe Wilco is a "special" session for them and they'll expedite it.

It's hard for me to characterize a song after one listen. I guess you're just looking for a sense of it, but the best I can say is it sounded like a natural extension of the last couple of records. It sort of had a soul-like feel (or rather, Wilco's version of soul) to it and I liked it on first listen. Musically, it seemed pretty straightforward but obviously that could change. And in terms of lyrics, I couldn't really recite any lines, but while I was listening, I remember thinking that it sounded like something Jeff would write.

Thanks for the YLT setlist. I had it written down as well, but I didn't know a couple of the songs so I didn't mention it. Really enjoyed their set. Ira had some good banter as well, including a funny line about how the reason Wilco was headlining was because they were rehearsing in their dressing room before the show while his band was opening because they snuck into the room where they kept the mascot outfits and took pictures with them. (Jeff later responded with a mock shaking of the fists, saying that YLT practiced plenty as well.) It was especially nice to hear YLT's take on "For The

Happened to see this in the weekly e-mail from the good folks at the Quad Cities-based Daytrotter.com, who do great work recording unique live sessions with emerging bands and making them available for free download: We confirmed today that we will be recording a Daytrotter session with the great Wilco, August 3. We will be doing so in the confines of the Wilco Loft in Chicago -- the main stage for the documentary "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart," and one of the most spectacular man caves in all of music history -- on August 3. (Elsewhere within the e-mail was the possibility of their rec

Greg...you neglected to mention the best part of this. The show is at the new KFC Yum (does it have an exclamation point? because it should!) Center.

Was curious so I asked Nels a bit about "Amenette" and he said that it was basically a "fake Ornette line" that also had a part that reminded him of a Scott Amendola composition called "Streetbeat." The title made a lot more sense when that was revealed! Personally, I loved hearing "The Angel of Angels" with Nels on 12-string. Really gorgeous. And of the Initiate tunes, "King Queen" is a standout and having Yuka Honda there to add the keyboard parts and contribute some percussion was awesome! I was also a little surprised they didn't do "Floored" in either Philly or DC because that might be

Thanks for the report! Sounds like a fun show. What was the venue like? You guys got some pretty cool songs that he doesn't always do in his typical solo shows...ELT, So Much Wine, Not For The Season, even Hummingbird (which he has said is kind of hard to play solo).

Jeff Tweedy - Union Chapel, London 30-June-10

Thanks for the report(s), sir! Wish I could have made it this time. Would have been worth it just to see Mr. Fay again, but it sounds like it was a nice time. Great to see that srmt carried on the pre-show request tradition of recent years. -
YES! Mavis, and Todd Barry, Kristen Schaal and John Mulaney. Now I'm officially psyched. Who needs Wilco? Er, um...

Here's the link to the full update post on the Nonesuch blog Cool for Vetiver..some good NYC musicians in that band! And I hear good things about Avi Buffalo, as well.

Yep. Incidentally, it looks like Nels has scheduled a "seminar" where he'll talk about "music, guitars and life" at the Stone in NYC on July 19! Should be a great one. As many of us know, Nels certainly can talk when he wants to. "STONE SEMINAR 29" w/ NELS CLINE $20 : All Ages THE STONE : Northwest corner of Avenue C and 2nd Street

Nice! Sounds like you guys got all of the recent setlist gems all in one show. I believe someone said once that "the second night's always better than the first." Quite a couple of nights, eh Froggie? Glad that Melbourne got in on the fun...

This just in on the Bat-Phone: Tweedy Solo In London UK

Doubtful, I'm afraid. Then again, if Batgirl makes an appearance... -
Yeah, why not? Of course, give a holler if you ever make it to this side of the planet. And I'll do the same if I ever get back your way...
-
How was Liam? EJ was with him, I assume. New songs?

I'll be hanging out with Batgirl backstage. [insert pawing noise here] -
Admirable setlist-keeping, Clint! (Can I call you Clint, though we've never met? Don't want to assume a first-name basis or anything. ) Glad you guys got a good show. The general admission standing shows are always better, aren't they? I mean, I had a fun time the last show in Welly (and will always hold a special memory of that show since I think that was where Wilco's involvement with the Finns and 7 Worlds Collide originated), but it was a pretty formal room. Jeff didn't say anything about the quality of the crowd's dancing, did he? And you've got to track down some Big Star! Such gre

Someone do it, please! It doesn't require that much methodical-ness (methodicism?). I'd love to be in Welly again, but it's not going to happen this time so it'd be great to get a report... And have fun, all you Kiwis!

I wish! I really, really would love to visit Japan someday, but not this time unfortunately. As fun as the Wilco gigs would have been to see, I'd love to know if anybody on here made it to any of the Bacharach tribute shows with Jim O and Glenn and Darin and/or the "night of duos" that Nels played with his Fig (or is it Kitchen Stadium) side project with Yuka Honda? Would love to hear a report from any of those shows...

Hopefully they set up a drum kit and Fred joins Jeff on drums for a few numbers (either as or not, though preferably the former).

Nels is scheduled to join On Fillmore in Chicago as part of a free show at Milennium Park on June 28. It's billed as On Fillmore featuring Nels Cline, so I guess that wouldn't be a Singers gig. But anyway... And congrats to Nels, Scott and Devin on the official release today! I was at the shows in SF they recorded at Café du Nord last fall for the live disc of Initiate and they were awesome, so it's nice to have a document of that. Hooray for "Boogie Woogie Waltz" with Deerhoof!
