I was going to ask why you said hilarious, but I think I found the clip and "somebody" looks like it was JC Brooks himself! That is pretty hilarious that he was shooting video while simultaneously soundchecking the song... It was fun to see that performance. It looked like Jeff had some lyric sheets at his feet (perhaps Dude can confirm?), which I can almost understand because the JC Brooks version has such a different rhythm from how Jeff/Wilco does IATTBYH/Theologians that it would be easy to get tripped up lyrically if you're used to singing it another way. Oh, and on a different but al

What show(s) are you talking about?

I'm not necessarily a Rahm supporter and I don't even have a voting interest in the mayoral race yet, so I won't get into the political/other stuff that was being discussed in the Just A Fan thread. I literally decided to go to the show about an hour before doors because I was sitting at home not doing anything. But I'm glad I did... First because Jeff did come out and play (or rather, sing) on I Am Trying To Break Your Heart with opening act JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound. If memory serves, he took the second verse as well as the "Theologians" interlude that JC normally inserts into his cov

I'm going to start a thread in After The Show for discussion of the Rahm event tonight.

Nels Cline Singers + Rova Sax 4tet to play Boston next month

The 2/27 gig in Baltimore is happening, fwiw. Or at least they're ticketing for it. It's on the Windup Space site as well. I'd definitely love to see one of these Celestial Septet gigs. -
Unfortunately, I suspect that's probably just left over from the previous (first) announcement on Jan. 18. But I could be wrong...

Just don't say the "L" word and I think you'll be fine... Lots of great eating/drinking and record shopping (OK there's other stuff too, but those are two of my favorite activities) to be done here!

Sad to see Fountains of Wayne on there. It's just because of "Stacy's Mom," right?

Meant to reply to this earlier, but I'm just getting to it now. Doesn't really matter one way or the other because everyone responds to music differently, and the Handsome Family certainly aren't for everyone. I'm a fan, though, so I feel the need to say a few words to maybe help put their music in some context... The "other two," for the record, are really the Handsome Family. Rennie, the wife of the husband-wife tandem, writes the lyrics, while Brett writes the music and does most of the singing. Steven Dorocke, the guitar player/multi-instrumentalist, just plays with them on occasion. The

Glad I could help in some small way, but it is weird about Wilcobase. Anyone know if Rob's OK? Did he just get overwhelmed with work/life stuff?

Oh, really? That's too bad. I just happened to see it in a brochure later on. The menu still looked pretty good. And yeah, they do like their beer (and marijuana) in that town. I was going to mention the Walnut Brewery, a block or two off the ped mall on Walnut St., that I went to last time I was in town. Didn't get back there this time, but that was a pretty good place if memory serves. Also, I was going to mention that there are more than a few panhandlers on street corners with cardboard signs. I don't know if any of them have golden voices, though.

Hey T...oh, you guys definitely need to check out The Alpaca Connection. Trust me! The Poets can back me up on this. It's right on the ped mall near the Boulder Theater (between 13th and 14th Streets, I think). Basically it seemed like a lot of the restaurants and bar scene downtown revolved around the aforementioned ped mall, which is basically Pearl Street, so you guys will surely find your way over there. We had good meals at the West End Tavern and the Boulder Café. The former is a little ways up the mall (or is it down?) toward 9th St., and is right next door to the Jax Fish House whi

And here was the Handsome Family's set for Night 2 (mostly the same as Night 1, but a couple of differences): Weightless Again The Bottomless Hole Down In The Ground (w/"Pretty Polly" outro) The Loneliness of Magnets So Much Wine After We Shot The Grizzly When You Whispered Don't Be Scared All The Time In Airports Up Falling Rock Hill

Here was the complete setlist, as played, for Night 2 at the Boulder Theater: Sunken Treasure Remember The Mountain Bed Wait Up How To Fight Loneliness I'll Fight Someday, Some Morning, Sometime Not For The Season You And I She's A Jar Either Way Summer Teeth I Must Be High Theologians Radio King Forget The Flowers ELT Passenger Side ----------------- Red-Eyed and Blue> I Got You (At The End of the Century) Heavy Metal Drummer Fake Plastic Trees [Radiohead] Dreamer In My Dreams (performed at edge of stage w/o PA system) Very considerate of Jeff to play an entirely different set for folk

And for anybody who's interested, here was the Handsome Family's opening set (I felt badly for them because there was so much chatter going on while they were playing, and they're already far from the loudest band around, even with the helpful presence of multi-instrumentalist Steve Dorocke on bass, electric guitar and violin): Weightless Again The Bottomless Hole Darling, My Darling The Loneliness of Magnets So Much Wine After We Shot The Grizzly When You Whispered Don't Be Scared All The Time In Airports The Sad Milkman My Sister's Tiny Hands I'm not expecting it, but hopefully Brett and

Jeff Tweedy at the Paramount Theater, Charlottesville VA, 8 Dec 2010

I have no comments. (Except that the final two numbers of the evening were great! ) -
That's a pretty interesting time of year for a couple of shows in Boulder! Hopefully there won't be a blizzard... Or perhaps Jeff has taken up skiing?
-
This is what I immediately thought of, but you never know. Sometimes he shows up when you least expect and doesn't when you most expect. If it happens, though, it seems like it would pretty much have to be Dec. 3 or 5. That Brooklyn Vegan post is pretty hilarious. I was amused by this: "Can Yuka Honda, Dougie Bowne, Sean Lennon, and Nels Cline all be in the same room and everything be completely normal? Apparently?"
-
Well. the Autumn Defense are opening...don't miss their set!
-
So did anybody make it to the Park West show? I take it Jeff didn't sit in with Mavis since Greg Kot's review for the Trib didn't mention it? If not, he must not have been in town.
-
A little update, since I started this thread a while back... A little birdie told me that this session never actually happened. That it was canceled for some reason. Just FYI, in case anyone was really waiting with baited breath for it to come out.
-
I actually missed the AD's set at Solid Sound, so I'm glad that Kidsmoke was able to help you out. From other reports I've read about this tour, it seems like they're still closing it out with the Big Star song. Which is just fine with me. It's a good closer for them.
-
Awesome to hear that they did "Full 5 Paces!" I had been hoping they'd revisit some of the "oldies." I really think The Green Hour is a pretty underrated record, so perhaps they've got "Wellspring" or "Recuperating From The War" somewhere in their back pockets as well. And I haven't heard all of the new record yet -- I'm waiting for the vinyl, which I hear has been slighly delayed? -- but I do dig a few of the songs I've heard and look forward to hearing more... Are they still closing with Big Star's "You Can't Have Me?"
-
Well, I agree in terms of the whole album aspect. I wish they'd just release everything (well, maybe not Yanni) but they probably deemed it not commercially viable to do so. After all, how many people have even ever bought the original "Oar" record, much less would buy a cover version of it? In terms of the "musicians fucking around in the studio," obviously they all knew that these sessions were being filmed and posted on the Web, so that casual ideal is sort of shattered right away. I mean, it's not as if these were recordings that were made and then tossed into a vault somewhere for 20 ye
