Damn, RIP indeed! I just bought a nice copy of Secrets on vinyl yesterday....
-
That would probably ordinarily be the case, though I think the printed setlist actually had a planned first encore of Poor Places>Reservations>Spiders that unfortunately got axed in favor of a single rockin' encore. Playing to the kind of crowd it was, I guess, as well as maybe an 11 p.m. curfew.

I think it was a white Epiphone solid body of some sort with a whammy bar. I don't remember seeing him play it before this little mini-tour, but I could be wrong. He used it for At Least as well as Spiders.

I posted the complete setlist and some preliminary comments on the last show of this weeklong Southern run over at setlistguy.wordpress.com.

Hey mods, feel free to delete the duplicate thread I just started for this show. Noah's got the setlist correct here and my post didn't really add anything...

Despite no alcohol (or drinks of any kind, to my knowledge) being sold inside the venue, the crowd seemed plenty riled up for a good old-fashioned Saturday night college show in North Texas... I posted the complete setlist and a few comments over at setlistguy.wordpress.com.

As far as the setlists go, sometimes it's not what you play but how you play it. I think it's pretty clear by this point that they're not going to play any new songs on this run, but I do think we're in for at least few nuggets the next couple of shows. I'd be surprised if we didn't get at least a couple of relative rarities anyway. I feel a need to say a word about the VWT being such a weird venue sound-wise. I feel like a lot of the sound just somehow evaporated or dissipated. Or maybe muffled conveys the feeling better. Anyway, that was my main letdown in terms of the show last night. (

I amended my original post to "assless chaps" because that's what Jeff actually said. He started down that road when he saw and/or heard some people in the balcony to his right. The Verizon Wireless Theater has sort of a U-shaped balcony that wraps all the way around that has seats even with or even a little bit "behind" the stage. Anyway, he heard people up there and said something like (I may be slightly paraphrasing), "Did you pay for those seats? I didn't even know there were people up there. ... Good thing I didn't wear my assless chaps." I think everyone cringed a little at that thoug

Though the good old Verizon Wireless Theater is far from a great venue sonically, the band still put on a fun, sweaty show with an unplanned (I think) second encore. One thing I don't really want to ever picture is Jeff in assless chaps... Complete setlist at I got your setlist right here...

Great news! I wish I could remember how I procured the Spanish tickets last time. I think it was through Sandbag, actually. Actually getting the tickets in hand was another story... And FYI, for anyone interested in the three German shows (not including the Weekender festival), I just got an e-mail that seems to indicate tickets are on sale now through eventim.de.

I'll never understand what makes a reserved seating crowd finally stand up -- you stay sitting for A Shot in the Arm, At Least That's What You Said and Impossible Germany but come to your feet for Airline To Heaven? -- but once people stood up for the last third of the show, what could have been a relatively subdued show turned into a rocking one. Anyway, a fun night with some nice setlist surprises. Even without a new song... The complete setlist, as played, is posted over at I got your setlist right here...

Haha, very funny. Actually, I think that Nov. 3 date is probably San Sebastian (which I believe is called Donostia in Basque?). I know the band loved playing there last time. Looks like maybe the days of GA European shows are dwindling. Certainly in Spain. The Circus Krone in Munich is a bit weird in terms of seating, in case anyone was thinking of doing that one. Anybody know anything about the Berlin venue or the ones in Holland? And is the Roundhouse definitely GA? I always wanted to see a show there...

Sorry to be such a slacker. I just posted a little something over on the blog on last night's show, though.

To mods, it would appear that el mergo is in order...

Still waiting for a full-band performance of a new song, but a fun show regardless. Complete setlist here: I got your setlist right here...

Oops, thanks! I was gonna come back and actually create a link when I had a chance.

Complete setlist, as played, posted at I got your setlist right here... I'll chime in more when I can, but Jeff's best banter of the evening probably involved a joke about Wilco being "the anti-Morrissey," explaining that whereas the Mozzer has been known to stop shows when he smells burning meat, it occurred to Jeff that a lot of the songs they played sounded better with the aroma of barbecue wafting in the air. In the future, Jeff said Wilco might stop their shows if they didn't smell burning meat. Of course Jody sitting in is always great! Glenn popped up behind him a couple of times wi

Wow, I'm surprised at the lack of crowd. But thanks for the report, Lou! Should've asked you pick me up one of the 10-inches, but hopefully Laurie's or somewhere will get a couple. What covers did John sing on?
-
Very, very cool! Love that they're covering Nick Lowe. Saw Ted Leo do that song at the Matador 21 Fest in Vegas last October and it's quite fitting for this inital dBpm release. Guess I should bring my portable 7" player to Solid Sound?
-
Yeah, I'll try to do it soonish but it's kind of a busy week and I'm lagging behind. But yeah, hopefully I'll get to it before too long.
-
Maybe that's what I was thinking of...
-
Damn you, Space Monkey! This thread was finally almost off the front page...
-
Yeah, the reason I put the ">" there was because he transitioned right into Spiders without stopping. It was a nice little segue, which I'm not sure I've seen before. Pretty cool. Also, on the subject of rare songs...it wasn't the main reason I requested "A Long Time Ago" (my primary request, by the way, though I suppose "Pick Up The Change" will be the more memorable one from this show), but he's only played "A Long Time Ago" a couple of times, I think. Wilcobase says once, back at Martyr's in '03, but I'm almost sure someone else requested it at one of these Vic benefit shows a couple

Once again, as he has done on each of his two-night stands in the same city recently, Jeff didn't repeat a single song from the previous night (unless you count "The Community Song.") So by my count, that was 60 different songs played over the two nights. These shows might be on the pricier side, in terms of the price of admission, but I would bet that not too many people who attended either or both nights walked away feeling like they didn't get their money's worth. Here was the complete setlist, as played, for Night 2: I got your setlist right here...

I'm sure plenty of folks will chime in soon enough, so just the bare bones for now. Jeff played just shy of two hours and 15 minutes without a break. A total of 30 songs, if you count "The Community Song." And as for what was played: I got your setlist right here...
