  1. I think the "breakout party" comment probably just referred to the fact that they played eight songs off The Whole Love, the most they've done in a single show yet. As far as selling the new record, I'm reasonably certain they're not going to break street date (or at least not by more than a day ), so I wouldn't expect to see it at the merch table for a few more days yet.
  2. This was actually Rising Red Lung, FYI.
  3. Re: "One Sunday Morning," It seemed pretty faithful to the studio version, inasmuch as I've actually listened to it thus far (which is to say not that much). I have to say that for me, one big difference with between these two Massey Hall shows was that the sound was markedly better the second night. I was sitting in virtually the same seats both nights, so it's not that I was sitting in a worse spot Friday night or anything. And it's not that the sound was bad on Friday, just that I felt it was a bit muddy, especially with respect to Nels' guitar. Thankfully whatever adjustments were made
  4. FWIW, I've got both the Wilco and Nick Lowe setlists posted here. Nick's set was identical to Night 1. He mentioned battling some sort of "throat infection," which manifested itself in an occasional croak. Mostly, though, you couldn't tell. But on "Cruel To Be Kind," he chuckled at himself when he realized he just couldn't quite hit the high note in the chorus on "baaaaaby." Later he sort of asked the crowd to help him out, which was kind of cool actually. I always thought that was just such a great singalong song.
  5. If the first two shows of this run are any indication, Nick goes on about 10 minutes after the posted show time and plays for 40 minutes. Tonight at Massey Hall, that meant he was on stage at about 7:40 and played until right around 8:20. Wilco were on at just about 8:40 or so, and played until 10:30. Hope that helps.
  6. Just posted the complete setlists for both Wilco and Nick Lowe for Massey Hall, Night One here. Nick was great again (FYI he did "All Men Are Liars" tonight, Donna). Could see most of the Wilco guys watching his set from just off stage. Hearing him do "Alison" was fantastic -- he hit just the right melancholic, almost wistful tone with his performance. So that was definitely a highlight for me. During Wilco's encore, I could see Nick watching from the wings and I thought tonight he might come out and join them on a song, whether it might be "I Love My Label" or "California Stars" or whatever
  7. Sorry, Donna. Not my intention, of course... But yeah, Nick is in fine form. He's got so many songs, it'll be interesting to see what he plays from night to night. I imagine he'll work in different songs from the new record each night and maybe switch out some of the hits as well (though I imagine Peace, Love and Understanding will be a constant and I hope Cruel To Be KInd -- one of my favorite songs ever -- is). Kudos to the Indy crowd, which gave him a couple of standing ovations at various points. Just before Wilco finished, Jeff took a moment to thank Nick for sharing the stage, sa
  8. Thanks, ditty, for absolving me from setlist duty for one night. I just have to say that Nick Lowe was so awesome. Anybody seeing a show on this run, definitely make sure to get there in time to catch his set! He's playing solo acoustic, and tonight he played about 40 minutes with a good mix of songs from his new record, The Old Magic (which was coincidentally released earlier in the day), a couple of album cuts and some absolute classics. He said it had "been a while" since he had last performed in Indianapolis, mentioning Rockpile opening for Blondie in 1979. Just in case anybody wa
  9. I think this was mentioned someplace in one of those epic recent threads in Just A Fan that I don't have the energy to go searching through right now, but I noticed that this Prague show from last fall is now streaming in the Roadcase on Wilcoworld. An awesome recording of an awesome show! The last full-band show of 2010 and the band's first-ever in Prague, I believe, featured great renditions of Too Far Apart and Kicking Television, among other songs. I was lucky enough to attend, and I can attest that the energy (both band and crowd) for this one was high. Definitely worth checking out, IMHO

    2011 tour dates?

    Montreal doesn't count as Canada?
  11. Usually the setup for ticketed Summerstage shows is there's a tent near the entrance to handle will call/guest list/media/etc. I've never had to do will call for a show there, and I assume it would be kind of nightmarish if the whole thing was will call only, but there is an actual entrance and a "box office" set up like at any outdoor show.
  12. Damn, foiled! Sneaky German Rolling Stone...
  13. Resurrecting this thread from long ago, but just noticed one line at the bottom of the most recent Daytrotter e-mail: "Also, looks like we have a raincheck date for our Wilco taping." So looks like this'll happen at some point after all. Makes more sense with the new record coming out anyway.
  14. Well, there you go. I suppose there's virtually no show these days that someone isn't recording in some form or another... Out of curiosity, is it just Jeff's set, or Pat's as well?
  15. I didn't see any mike stands or anything, but you never know if someone was stealthing. Wouldn't get my hopes up, though.
  16. Sorry for the delay. Just posted setlists for Jeff and Pat's sets, and a modest account of the show... http://wp.me/p1sUtq-4J
  17. In Jeff's defense, I think he was having some pretty serious vocal issues right around the time of that Tipitina's show (3/5/08). At one of those gigs (a moment I think is captured on the Ashes DVD), he mentions having to go see the doctor and getting some sort of throat injection or something. Anyway, the next show on that run -- in Houston (3/7/08) -- was the worst condition I've ever seen Jeff in vocally. I was seriously worried that he might not be able to make it through the entire show. He did, of course, but it wasn't pretty. So maybe that has something to do with the vocal aspect of
  18. Just listened to the two again back-to-back and I'm pretty certain that it's the album version on the comp. There aren't any comments in the liner notes, just the lyrics to the song and who played what [e.g. Jeff Tweedy: vocals, acoustic guitar, wurlitzer; Jay Bennett: drums, upright bass, delayaphone, bells], which matches the Mermaid 2 credits. Also, other songs on the comp are noted as "acoustic demo" or "demo" or "alternate studio version" and Someday, Some Morning, Sometime isn't. Is there a reason you think it would be a different version? I was at that show. It was always a tre
  19. It hasn't been abandoned, but it's in a bit of a transitional phase, I believe. I think they're trying to find a way to incorporate it into the band's Web site somehow. I know people are working on it, fwiw.

    I Might

Cool footage! Thanks for uploading. Maybe we'll actually see that Black Gang record that's in the can one of these days...
  21. FYI, I got my copy of this comp today, and it seems to just be the album version of Someday, Some Morning, Sometime from Mermaid Avenue, Vol. 2. Jeff and Jay are the lone players on this song. Still great to hear, of course, but don't buy this comp expecting a previously unreleased live version or anything. That said, do buy the comp because it's for a good cause and there's a lot of other cool stuff on there.
  22. Will post the complete setlist for tonight's show shortly over at setlistguy.wordpress.com...
  23. Here's the complete setlist for Door Community Auditorium, and a little commentary... Thumb of the mitten...I love it! Great to see you guys, as always! And P.S., I totally forgot to say thanks for procuring the tickets...
  24. I don't think I've ever seen that! Maybe next time I come over to one of your houses... I found a VC mousepad not too long ago, haha!
