  1. Before Theologians, Jeff said, "Normally we don't encourage this kind of behavior, but someone's been yelling out for this song all night." And with Sonny Feeling, he got his guitar, discovered that it was out of tune or something, felt along the fretboard, looked over at Matrix and then said, "Uh, let's just move onto the next song." I believe he added, with a half grin, "Normally we're more professional than this." That was indicative of the goofy end-of-tour mood all night. Another one came when a group of kids in front of Nels collectively yelled out, "Nels Fucking Cline!" and timed it
  2. Starting a new thread for post-show discussion because, well, the other one didn't have a date or venue in the title. I know it's anal. Whatever. As for the show, I think it was kind of funny that Wilco went from playing in maybe the nicest theatre in Canada two days ago to finishing their Tundra Tour in basically a big shed next to a hockey rink (that apparently is often used as a bingo parlor) tonight. That's the versatility of Wilco, I guess: they can be highbrow and lowbrow. I loved when Afie (of Bahamas) said, with sort of a wry smile on his face, "Hello, Halifax...Multi-Purpose Roo
  3. The start time is listed at 8:45 p.m. with the doors opening at 8. So I would assume that Bahamas will be on right at 8:45 and play about 30 minutes or so, with Wilco on somewhere around 9:45.
  4. I didn't have a very good angle for pictures of Nels in Ottawa, unfortunately. I know he didn't think he'd ever be playing a Tele on stage, but this one sounded good apparently. FYI, I'm no guitar expert but the one Nels is using is an orange Nashguitars model. I didn't know much about the company before reading some of the stuff on their site...pretty interesting.
  5. Nels turned in a pretty sweet solo on this one. Can't remember if it was with his Jazzmaster or the "fake" Tele that he's been using on some of the twangier numbers on this tour, but I think it was the latter.
  6. A little hard to believe that no one has started a thread for the Montréal show yet, but I guess it is a Saturday night and all (not to mention La Nuit Blanche, which I just learned about today ). Since I'm all nice and full after a plate of smoked meat, though, here goes... I'll let others chime in on some of the details, but in short, what an energetic show! Like the Royal Oak, MI, show last summer, the energy of the crowd definitely elevated what could have been just a routine gig. It was hard to believe that, save for an opening set for Neil Young in late 2008, Wilco hadn't played in Mon
  7. Well, let's see if this works. If it does, I feel as if I have done my duty for this show. The aforementioned suit:
  8. I should add that the stage was apparently so tight that they couldn't fit either Glenn's gong or the candle-like lights and backdrop that are part of the new lighting scheme for this tour. All they had was the set of two or three big flood lights (plus the venue's normal stage lights, of course). I realize about five people care about this, but anyway. Oh, and Maneki Neko seems to have vanished for now (or at least I didn't see he/she/it on stage last night, nor in London for that matter). I believe Quatchi was laying on his (?) back by one of Mike's keyboards and may have been, ahem, imple
  9. Not the tightest show of the Tundra Tour, but maybe one of the most fun. Jeff came out in an awesomely garish blue, white and black plaid suit that may or may not have been meant as an homage to the Québec flag -- at least that's what first came to my mind -- and that sort of set the tone for the show. (He never actually commented on the suit, so it's unclear if it was a recent acquisition or something from long, long ago. Well, in any case, it's almost certainly the latter. ) I took a couple decent photos of Jeff's suit, but hopefully someone else will post at least one before I get a chanc
  10. The real question is what have you done with the original Oceanman?
  11. OK, keep me posted. My e-mail is paulsuwan@gmail.com. I think I could maybe find another Friday to trade you for your Saturdays, but if anyone else is also looking to swap a single, that'd be ideal.
  12. I've got one ticket for 4/2 that I'm looking to swap for one for 4/3. I assume we're talking about GA floor. Would you be interested? Perhaps someone else out there might also be interested in a swap? If so, chime in!
  13. You vote riggger. At least you didn't stuff the ballot box for Monster Mash!
  14. As tried and true noted, the printed setlist -- minus Red-Eyed and Blue/I Got You and Kingpin -- was correct. Apparently there was a strict 10:30 p.m. curfew, so the set definitely felt a little rushed. We thought they might have until 11, but that apparently wasn't the case. I don't think Califone even played for a half hour, unfortunately. I have to say, the crowd sort of gave off a weird vibe toward the front. Jeff poked a little fun at one woman in the front row, who apparently sat more or less stone still throughout the show. On the other side of the spectrum, there were one or two craz
  15. I didn't keep close track of Califone's setlists, but they pretty much stuck with stuff from All My Friends Are Funeral Singers on this run. Occasionally they'd change up and close with an older song, but Funeral Singers, Giving Away The Bride and Polish Girls were definitely played every night.
  16. Yeah, that dude must have been taking some of the hash he referred to in his lead paragraph. How else to explain mixing up When The Roses Bloom Again with Ripple?
  17. Complete setlist as follows: —Olympic theme music intro— Bull Black Nova You Are My Face IATTBYH> One Wing A Shot in the Arm At Least That's What You Said Should've Been In Love Deeper Down Impossible Germany It's Just That Simple Handshake Drugs You Never Know Summer Teeth Jesus, etc. (crowd singalong) Hate It Here Walken I'm The Man Who Loves You Spiders (Kidsmoke) Hummingbird ------------------------ Wilco (the song) Misunderstood Heavy Metal Drummer Passenger Side Candyfloss Red-Eyed and Blue> I Got You (At The End of the Century) Hoodoo Voodoo
  18. I would expect a heavy American contingent if there was a show in Prague. Isn't half that city American ex-pats or something like that?
  19. Fwiw I liked your piece, man. Sounds like a bit of a geezer fest, but those two have written some great songs over the years. I actually read a pretty interesting longer feature on the Hag fairly recently in, of all places, Rolling Stone. I think I'm generally in a bit of an "old school country" mode after seeing Crazy Heart recently (not that either of these guys would be playing bowling alleys anytime soon, though I'm sure they do play their fair share of casinos).
  20. Good to see you on here again, Sir Queenie! And glad you'll perhaps get to "summer" in Germany, with maybe even a jaunt over to the land of Czechs? I hear the Budweiser there is a tad different than the garbage we have over here.
  21. Really? If so, that'd be one they haven't done in quite a while (the second night of the residency, according to Wilcobase, and then before that not as a band since before Nels and Pat joined). That'd be a nice little nugget! Thanks for the report. Glad someone made it to Saskatoon. Really wish I had been able to. Oh, and I think your picture is actually from the intro to I'm The Man Who Loves You.
  22. I've got a decent single ticket I can't use for the show at Centennial Hall in London next Wednesday, in case anyone's looking. It's Orchestra Row H, seat 20. A hard ticket, not a printout. I paid US$48.50 including all service fees, but I'll take US$40 if anyone's game. Send me a PM or e-mail me at paulsuwan@gmail.com.
  23. I'm really glad this didn't happen during Wilco's performance there. Personally, though, Default was almost enough to cause me to start a one-man riot.
  24. Despite the fact that it rained steadily through the first half or two thirds of the set, it was a pretty fun night all around. People were in a festive mood with the Winter Games getting underway and they showed some of the events on the two JumboTrons on either side of the stage during the changeovers between acts. The band played a little over 90 minutes, from 9 p.m. to about 10:35. The show ended a bit abruptly with no encore, though it would quickly become evident why no encore was possible. (There was a big end-of-the-night fireworks show -- I guess it's going to be a nightly event thr
  25. An 11 p.m. curfew once again probably curtailed the set a little early, but a lot of variety for people who also went to the Portland show the previous night. One funny thing right off the top, for those who attended any shows last year when they played the "synthesizer" (MIDI?) band intros, tonight they weaved those into the middle of Wilco (the song). Not sure if it was an accident, as in Glenn hit the wrong spot on his sampler pad (my guess is it was planned) but at any rate, the band rolled with it and it was pretty hilarious. Mid-set, Jeff announced it was a special night because it
