  1. You're welcome. But please don't say they are from the states.
  2. That is The Acorn - Glory Hope Mountain. The obsequious sample song: http://www.chromewaves.net/mp3/Acorn-CrookedLegs.mp3 The obligatory myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/theacorn the fawning rave review: http://chromewaves.net/index.php?itemid=2773 the indepth cover story: http://www.exclaim.ca/articles/multiarticl...&fid1=27572 and they were voted the best 'fucks' in Ottawa: http://radiofreecanuckistan.blogspot.com/2...acorn-pt-1.html
  3. Gonna burn out on this, but until then this is fantastic.
  4. Think I've recommended Boris before and they have certainly been around long enough for everyone to get into them. In fact, you (Jeremy) are probably already a card carrying member of the Wata fan club.
  5. thinking more, Jeremy, have you heard 'C'mon'? Sir Ian Blurton wrote/drank/played with the Deadly Snakes and he's the producer of the last few Weakerthan's cds. http://www.myspace.com/thisiscmon New record out next week of blown up/power chord/sort of blues rock
  6. The Acorn - Oh Napoleon Talk about your peace of mind The one I found so hard to find Mosquito stuck in amber mine Don't want my body trapped in time As I wait for skies to clear Don't seem to mind if I shed a tear From time to time I'm swallowed whole And in a wink spat on the floor Will I follow you home again? How's it feel to disappear Like seriously disappear And take a stab from papa's spear Getting drunk on rotten air Bite my tongue I taste your blood Never thought of that I could bite hard enough Eyes of fire in your skull You've got the kind of eyes that burn gooseflesh off
  7. New Sharon Jones is kicking my ass. as is new Acorn - Glory Hope Mountain. Indie folk with Honduran poly-rhythms. '
  8. The Acorn - Glory Hope Mountain Talk about your piece of mind The one i found so hard to find Mosquito's stuck in amber mine Don't want my body trapped in time From time to time I'm swallowed whole A little wingspan on the floor Bite your tongue My top 10 for 2007 gets shifted around again. Big huge article here about the band and their concept album: http://www.exclaim.ca/articles/coverstory.aspx?csid1=115 "When Klausener first proposed the idea (ed: for a concept album devoted to the harsh life of his mother) to his bandmates, the reaction was predictable. Says Debutte,
  9. cool. Hope they didn't steal anything and maybe left some shiny loonies (1.01 usd) behind.
  10. the Acorn - Glory Hope Mountain Oh to be pulled by the wool that has covered me Oh to be lead by the light of a melody wow, another great concept album for the year. Something about the a band member Mother's emigration from Honduras to Montreal.
  11. Akron Family - Love is simple. Caught the tail end of their show at a local festival having heard of but never heard. Liked it and they were pretty funny going around to all the places where they were not supposed to be and just barging in.
  12. Saw the Constantines last night at LOLA fest. First time seeing them in probably 4 or 5 years and in short, they were great - especially the Shine a Light songs. Half the concert was new, with the explanation that they're currently recording. Generally the new stuff seemed slower than the relentless attack of Young Lions or Night/Anytime, more in a Tournament of Hearts vein. But, like whatever the song was that got played just before the encore, this band has an awesome new release in the pipeline. Loved that Webb brought his out his grandfather and mentioned that the man had been partial
  13. Oops sorry Bridg! I meant monkey balls. Sounds like a great time and that's Padme Newsome (sp?) with the violin isn't it? What a madman. I really enjoyed seeing these guys in the spring. Don't think Berringer (again sp!) opened his eyes once and seemed to kill a litre of red wine during the show.
  14. woah. sounds really good. I'm wishin to have a lesbian relationship with Tara Dunphy's voice.
  15. 'We'd like to thank USA and chicks' on to: Not so sure about the above. It's almost too close to Mountain/Thin Lizzy...
  16. oh, ok, well then, I believe Tony plays on the thing and *I think* they were buddies at the UWO music faculty. http://www.myspace.com/basiamyspace The cd is top 5 for me - especially the Pligriming Vine song. Got sent this from a well connected friend about the US release date: 'I know her record is coming out in the US through Beggars in March 08: just in time for a big SXSW breakthrough. Could be a good year for her. Looking forward to hearing this record.'
  17. she seems to be the musical 'It' girl of Toronto right now. well deserved too. Her album is very beautiful. I believe that she's in the Great Lake Swimmers/Hayden/Cuff the Duke/Final Fantasy circle of artists. Hope she does well.
  18. i love it as well, but certainly don't have a use of my medallion.
  19. Basia Bulat I had a nice chit chat with Basia's Mom Wednesday at an instore. I now know that Basia is pronounced Bash-a. Very Polish. Taste it and tell me it
  20. You guys see the apology for Ticket Master on Lefsetz?
