Great show. My first show for Wilco. Been a fan for years but have never gotten the chance to see the guys. Tonight made up for the lost time. A wonderful night.

What an incredible show. To be honest, going into this show I was not that excited, the setlists I had been seeing were pretty much the same as they have been for a year or two now but two or three songs in I decided that it didn't really matter because Wilco are the greatest live band out there right now, hands down.

Opening with In A Future Age was incredible and after that the band really seemed to play to the college arena audience. A lot of rockers and classics so to speak. The band was in top form, its amazing how tight they are. On top of that everyone seemed to be having a good time. Jeff was in a good mood but wasn't to talkative which was actually a nice thing because the set flowed so well. Other highlights aside from the opener were ALTWYS, Always In Love, ITMWLY and Monday with Brown U horn trio (trumpet, trombone, sax), Spiders, Kingpin, and just about everything else.

Kind of dissapointed with Walken, I heard it a few times before and my feelings that its a mediocre rock song stay the same but oh well, hopefully it won't show up on the new record.

Overall a great show, much better than I expected from a college show, an 80-minute set plus two full encores. I also like the GA Wilco shows a lot better (the view from the second row dead center was pretty incredible).

Oh and in case anyone was wondering, OK Go were awful but did a hilarious dance routine and Ted Leo was ok. But I think everyone forgot about that once Wilco came on.

I thought Ted Leo was excellent. Tons of energy and a good set list. He was fairly talkative and in a good mood. Once the Pharmacists get going, they can kick ass. OK GO was alright, nothing special.

The first thing to note, regardless of who was good and bad, is that the sound in the arena was awful. Worst sound I've ever heard. I'm sure it contributed to people's negative reactions about ok go and Ted Leo. Second thing to note is that Ok Go were indeed horrible. The lead singer was clearly a douche, and he even talked about how he went to Brown and the last time he was there, he was "really, uh, drunk." Wow, interesting. You're a jackass.

Ted Leo was great, as usual. I can't imagine him ever being bad. But the sound was so awful, I can understand how people might not have really seen his charm. Due to the huge echo, there was no way to hear any notes that he played, and the bass was nearly inaudible. Horrible, horrible sound. Seriously. It was a major disappointment because Ted Leo is so good, and the sound was so so bad.

Wilco was great. I really like how they've changed some of the songs. Even the older, frequently-played songs were fresh to my ears. The setlist wasn't even that crazy, but they were great the whole night. Oh yeah, and the horns were awesome!!!!!!!!!!! Walken was pretty cool. I've avoided downloading it because I ruined myself with AGIB, so for a first listen, it was a nice surprise.

In a Future Age was a great opener. No question about that. I've wanted to see that live for so long, and to get it as an opener was, well, a gift.

Anyway. The truth:

1) Terrible, terrible sound. Horrible. Echos prevented the comprehension of notes being played and created an awful drum sound that made everything seem off-time.

2) Ok Go, not good at all. Not even a little.

3) Ted Leo was great, but his excellent guitarwork, lyrics, and just about everything that he does best was wholly marred by the sound.

4) Wilco was great too. No doubt about that.

Maybe some other time, I'll get to see Wilco and Ted Leo play together in a place that has better acoustics. As for this one, the sound basically made mediocre what could've been a landmark evening.

I mean yeah, I thought ted leo was alright, sound was definitely an issue, I could barely here is vocals and everything was muddled, though I could hear the bass. I have two of his records and I like a bunch of the songs. Also his drummer is excellent. During the Wilco set the sound seemed to be a bit better, probably the fact that I knew all the songs helped that. And yeah great video thanks for that, you must have been a few people down from me, we were second row center.

Hey there folks, I'm the sax player.

Thanks to whoever shot and posted that video - the internet is a really a silly little place. Speaking of YouTube, John and I had a funny conversation about OK Go's dance routine being a YouTube sensation - which means that even rock stars watch stupid internet videos. I found that comforting.

Anyway, just to repeat what everyone else said - Wilco's sound was acceptable, but OK Go and Ted Leo got lost in the arena, which was (at least in Ted's case) really a shame. But yeah, OK Go was just pretty bad. I did pass my e-mail on to the one taper in attendance, so we'll see how it sounds when I get a copy (I'll be sure to post it to the BT).

So now we're trying to get down to Jersey to make tonight's gig. Wish us luck!

I thought the Providence show was pretty solid. My favorite part was the Encores with the Horns. I liked how Wilco changed some of the songs. This was my second Wilco concert in the past year, first being Boston, and third time seeing Tweedy, saw him solo in Northampton front row!. Good songs, good times, solid night. Wishing that the next time they come up this way they bring some newer or older songs with them. OK GO was alright, nothing special. I thought Ted Leo was very good. In a place that has sound i'm sure Ted Leo and Wilco would of sounded alot better.

Good times in Providence! :dancing

Ditto on whats already been said. As a Providence native, Brown alum ('88), and veteran concert goer at Meehan (a few hockey games too!), I will note the sound always sucks there. Still, it was a great Wilco show. Tweedy made his arena rock statement - that pretty much covered it - you just can't expect to hear every note. But the usual Wilco energy was there, much of the crowd seemed to know the band (a little surprising) and the band seemed "into it!"

The Brown horns rock - great clip - they should join the tour! Sax guy - how'd you get the gig?

i enjoyed both openers, OK Go were nothing special, but not off-putting and that ELO cover was pretty fun. i agree the sound was the worst for ted leo which was a shame, but when wilco played the sound was better than i had expected for the hockey rink.

I'm afraid that rock stars probably look at more stupid stuff on the internet than most of us would like to think. :ermm :lol

That would have been my question too, how did you get set up to play with Wilco? What a cool thing for you guys!

Awesome you guys were great! My friend and I were outside of the arena during soundcheck and heard I'm the man who loves you with horns. At first we thought it may have been some sort of keyboard affect but what a treat it was to have you guys up there, great job, good luck tonight in jersey if you make it.

I'm a senior at Providence College.

Although it's not as "indie" as Brown, we had a big crew of kids head over to the show. A lot of first-timers and they all enjoyed wilco thoroughly (very impressed by nels and glen...via chicago was on fire).

Sax Player- Great job man! I played sax, play guitar in a band, but to do what you guys did was pretty impressive. Did you correspond with the band before hand? Jeff and John and the rest of the guys really loved what you did to the sound. The three of you guys played really well and seemed to be having a great time. Kudos!

PS- The tweedy chemistry comment was halarious.

The show was great. No rarities, but a rockin' show through and through. My 4th Wilco show and one of my favorites. This band has it together. I hope this six-piece stays together for years to come.

What a way to help end my senior year of college in Providence. Thanks, Wilco!

In a Future Age opener? That song has only been played full band like 5 times since AGIB has been released, and they have played a loottt of shows since then. Only 27 times in total, mostly Tweedy solo.
