misslaura
Does anyone know the deal with the horn players? They were introduced as "some kids we picked up hitch hiking" in Sayreville, NJ, but they seem to pop up everywhere. Who are they?

How did it come to be that Wilco met a bunch of college students and had them play horns for their next few gigs?

HaikuWarriors41
As long as there's a thread about us, I might as well clear up a few things. I'm the sax player in the group. Unfortunately, we're definitely not hitchhikers from Jersey, and for the record, we're not Brown Band members either - I despise all things marching band. Just musicians who like to play out whenever possible. (One more note - I'm the only one from Lolla who was there for the Jersey or Providence shows - the other two this time were friends from high school). Thrilled to see all the positive comments in the show and webcast threads, especially about Walken - glad you guys like the horns on it as much as I did. And wheelco, I'm sorry to hear your horn-proficient, rock-liking self doesn't dig - this thread turned up a whole slew of good examples of the art, but it's certainly not for everyone. Catch y'all later.

HaikuWarriors41
very cool! - if you dont mind my asking, how did you score those gigs?It all really comes down to the fine musicians in Wilco being among the most humble, down-to-earth rock stars you'll ever meet. The Brown Concert Agency booked the band for our Spring Weekend concerts this April, and I had some of their horn charts lying around that I'd transcribed for a band that I fronted in high school. I figured there was no reason why we shouldn't be playing with Wilco at the show, and fortunately enough, they agreed. They liked us enough to bring us down to Jersey the next night, and when we told them we could be in Chicago for Lollapalooza, they were game. Just the fact that this band thinks it's at all reasonable to have some college kids they barely know come out and join them at the largest (?) show they've ever played in their hometown seems completely out of hand to us, but hey, we'll allow it. Nice guys.
