Guest tandylacker
Anybody been sued or known someone that has been sued by these music industry suers? How many songs do you have on your computer? I have about 2,600. That's after deleting about 1,000 or so. Thanks to oink my collection has quadrupled in a small amount of time. Anyone need an invite? Well, anyway... just wondering. EDIT: By the way, not all 2,600 downloaded... I do also own about 100 CDs...
deepseacatfish
I have a library of 4000+ legal songs on my computer, I really hope the RIAA sues me for the 100 or less illegal songs I have. I'd laugh myself to death.
TheMaker
I have 10,491 songs on my hard drive, give or take.
HighFives
11037 on the ipod. I own 375ish cd's (haven't counted in a while) so I guess about 1/3 of my music is legall but I have prolly a couple thousand just in bootlegs.

Scalzunfield
I don't ever download illegally. I find that I buy enough music without fully appreciating or listening to it enough anyways... I have roughly 600 CDs and I have 12000 songs on my hard drive, 1800 of which are full Grateful Dead concerts. Granted, there are probably about 50 albums worth that were ripped in courtesy of my old roommate (Radiohead albums...I'd never buy 'em) or my dad.
c53x12
I ain't sayin'. The RIAA probably monitors this and other band sites.

Elixir Sue
No problems with the RIAA, but a couple years ago my "household" got a cease and desist letter from the MPAA.
Dr. Steve Brule
as far as music goes, the only way they can bust you is if you are offering the files up for grabs on a file sharing site. If you merely download from other people, but aren't sharing those files, you can't be caught. That said, I have never downloaded an album that I didn't later purchase, usually on vinyl. My iTunes music library has 24,000 + songs.
bjorn_skurj
I have a doink under 6,000. The only ones I didn't rip from my own CDs or buy from iTunes I got off YSI mixes here. I have no intention of hooking my compy to a P2P network.
Sir Stewart
What's music?
anodyne
if you're dloading stuff from pre-1996 that you own in another format, it isn't illegal to download it in another format. that hasn't gone to court yet, but the language is pretty clear. if i ever get sued, i'm headed to the used record shop to pick up a couple o' things as my defense. El Picador
That said, I have never downloaded an album that I didn't later purchase, usually on vinyl. What if the album you download sucks ass? Do you still buy it? I know I'm picky, but I don't want crap in my collection.
Analogman
What if the album you download sucks ass? Do you still buy it? I know I'm picky, but I don't want crap in my collection. That is what I use it for - I got really tired of spending 15 bucks on something I ended up only listening to once. This has also helped me get away from being a completist. Dr. Steve Brule
What if the album you download sucks ass? Do you still buy it? I know I'm picky, but I don't want crap in my collection. The only stuff I am downloading is stuff by artists I know I'm going to buy when it is released, ie Decemberists, Magnolia Electric Company, etc. I don't dl stuff by bands I haven't heard yet, because I honestly will NEVER listen to it. I much prefer to have the actual item to look at while I listen. If I buy something and end up not liking it, I trade it back to a store, or a friend. I do finally get to a point where I realize I'm not listening to something enough, like I finally didn't buy the last Ryan Adams, but I never listened to it either, because I have enough of his albums that I didn't listen to much. Guest tandylacker
I don't ever download illegally. I find that I buy enough music without fully appreciating or listening to it enough anyways... I'm starting to notice that my opinion of new CDs this last year has gone down alot. I've recently realized the difference between how I listen to music now compared how I used to. I sometimes download 10 CDs in a day that I heard are good. How the hell would I ever be able to enjoy them? I used to buy a CD that had a few good songs and slowly get into the rest of the album and really become infatuated with the band. If I just downloaded a bunch of Wilco CDs one day, there would be no chance that I would ever been able to take the time to really appreciate what they're doing. But anywho...
