Lammycat
The first one that always springs to mind for me is: "I Can See Clearly Now," by Jimmy Cliff. It never fails to make me feel good.
Sir Stewart
Johnny Nash, yo. EDIT: Wait, Cliff wrote that?
Lammycat
Johnny Nash, yo. EDIT: Wait, Cliff wrote that? Actually, I mistyped. I was thinking J. Nash but typed J. Cliff. Nash, I believe, actually wrote it (the mid-70s version is the one that I'm referencing, anyway). Jimmy Cliff recorded the tune in the late 80s/early 90s, though. mchchef1
I also love the songs people write about their dogs - they all seem really happy (but i can't think of any of them right now!!!) Jet /Wings "I know Jet will always love me"
Lammycat
I also love the songs people write about their dogs - they all seem really happy (but i can't think of any of them right now!!!) "Old Blue" is a traditional (as far as I remember, though it may be credited to a particular person (s)) that's a fantastic song. It has little variations that make it unique to each person covering it, but it retains the same old message of an elegy, of sorts, to a favorite dead dog. I know Ton Russell, The Byrds, JJCale, and a bunch of others have covered it.  My favorite version is on the recent Ramblin' Jack Elliot disc, I Stand Alone (which is a fantastic album, all around). I had an old dog, and his name was BlueBet your life he was a good dog tooBlue chased a possum up a hollow limbPossum won, got the best of himBye-bye BlueYou good dog, youBye-bye BlueYou good dog, youBlue he died, and he died so hardHe shook the ground in my backyardWe lowered him down with a golden chainEvery link we

I love that song, and yeah, there's a certain something that is nice about the way the narrator feels about being the only person left on earth with his love...its cute, but at the same time, well, the rest of the world is dead. Not that happy of a song.
