sean Patrick
so, i have an idea.seeing that we are all gearheads, and wilcofans, maybe we can work together and figure out some of the guitars and equipment wilco uses.just post neat pics of their stuff.who doesnt like pictures?overall, its fun to look at this stuff, and it would be cool if it was all in one place. Kalle
Uhhhh I can tell you which guitars Jeff plays on certain songs! If that helps haha. This all going by their Canadian tour this past summer. Jeff plays this Jazzmaster on "I'm A Wheel" This SG on the noize solo in Handshake Drugs (notice the capo on 12) This badass Gibson Barney Kessel on Walken. Uses this Gibson on She's A Jar. Nels primarily uses this Jazzmaster but he has one other one and a Danelectro and two or three lap steels.
Kalle
Also Jeff uses this Santa Cruz guitar on a ton of songs solo and with Wilco. But Jeff really does use a ton ton of guitars.
oceanman
I think that might be a Jerry Jones, not a Dano.
Kalle
Yeah maybe I can't really remember I guess it sort of looked like one at the time.
oceanman
Now that I think about it I think it is a Dano,I remember him saying how he liked play his inexpensive 12 string which would be a Dano,Jerry Jones look exactly the same but way better built.I guess I just could't imagine Nels playing a guitar I could afford. Gobias Industries
Nels has a 6-string Dano, and a 12-string Jerry Jones. I've seen the Dan in action...looks nice.
oceanman
Good call
FaintingGoat
Notice the replacement neck on the Jazzmaster that Tweedy is playing. From the photo it looks like there's pretty nice flame happening on the headstock near the nut, and it transitions to birdseye at the tip.
H to the ickle
Notice the replacement neck on the Jazzmaster that Tweedy is playing. From the photo it looks like there's pretty nice flame happening on the headstock near the nut, and it transitions to birdseye at the tip. I thought it looked weird, good eye. kaysettes
I think that Jazzmaster may be in fact a Jagmaster. Are those tone switches above the strings?
jhc
I think that Jazzmaster may be in fact a Jagmaster. Are those tone switches above the strings? nope, and no way a gear whore like Tweedy plays a Squier
kaysettes
Oh well, I tried.
deepseacatfish
I think that Jazzmaster may be in fact a Jagmaster. Are those tone switches above the strings? Those are pickup selector switches, but that's standard Jazzmaster setup. The Jagmaster doesn't have those, and it's got different pickups, but similar body shape. You might be thinking of the Jaguar, that has a bunch of tone/pickup switches all over the body, but it's got thinner pickups. Personally I Jazzmasters, I would love love love to own one at some point. But I am no where near affording that now.
Pecan_Pie
Nels uses a jaguar also... for the hummingbird solo is what i believe.
CalebMac
I think Nels' Dano is a baritone.
Kalle
Nels also uses what I believe is a double cutaway Les Paul.
Alastor The Great
Nels uses a Gibson 335, if that's what you're thinking of, Kalle.
Pecan_Pie
Nels uses a Gibson 335, if that's what you're thinking of, Kalle. No... it's actually a Double Cut Les Paul Special... PLAYED ON KINGPIN!
Kalle
Thank you.
oceanman
I think Nels' Dano is a baritone.I have seen a pic of a Jerry Jones barritone he has,it's that double cutaway crazy body.
Gobias Industries
I think Nels' Dano is a baritone. definitely not. saw it in action myself. he tuned it down but it was in no way a baritone.
CalebMac
I could be wrong, I just remember thinking when I saw him and Glenn in philly that his Dano had a longer neck then the 56-U1s and 56-U2s I've seen, so I assumed it was a baritone.
groselicain
No... it's actually a Double Cut Les Paul Special... PLAYED ON KINGPIN! I'm not sure about that. Are you guys sure you're not calling a Melody Maker a Les Paul Special? I've seen Jeff use one a few times, and Nels is known to borrow Jeff's stuff. Also, I'd like to ask what you guys think about this guitar-http://students.ou.edu/T/David.J.Thompson-1/wilco1.jpgThere used to be a bigger picture on the ACL website, but it's gone amiss. Long story short, it's an American Deluxe, but Fender doesn't make hardware that color, nor does anyone else. Anyone have any idea where he got this thing? I've never seen any other pictures of it than this one, btw.
oceanman
He's had that for awhile now,I haven't seen it since the Fox Stl. show.Started playing it around the same time as he got his SG from Suzzie.
