anodyne
i pulled a dvd screener from demonoid. i'm a little drunk, so don't expect much of a review, but i loved it. del toro did an amazingly apt job at reimaging the fairy tale.
bjorn_skurj
Seconded. A beautiful movie,
OOO
thirded, and worth paying to see in the theaters, because of how beautiful it is.
Welsh Rich
Beautiful, initially, doesn't seem the right word to use to describe it... in places I found it quite brutal, but it's an amazing film - a very dark fairy tale...
bjorn_skurj
Sad, too. A statement of how fragile and how enduring innocence can be.
Ludwig Von Drake
Can't wait for it to come to my neck of the woods. I hope it's at one of the indie theaters - nothing beats a great movie and a glass of beer.
renic
damn i wanted to go see it tongiht, but it looks like it ain't happening until this weekend!
WildMercurySound
I'm seeing it tomorrow night in HD. I'm intrigued even though fantasy isn't usually my thing.
anodyne
http://www.apple.com/trailers/picturehouse...iler_large.html yeah - i want to see it in the theater, but it looks like i'd have to do it after work some night. i work across the street from cleveland's main art-house theater (or what used to be, although now it's iffy) and the idea of going home and driving back to catch it means i'll likely miss it. i've watched it three times now and it keeps getting better. explodo
Going as soon as possible. It won't be here forever, but when it is, I'll be there. EDIT: Yummy. Just saw that it will supposedly be in Davenport this weekend and I will be in Davenport this weekend. Holla.
explodo
Finally got around to seeing this. Couldn't recommend it more. Stellar film. Really reminded me of the Diary of Anne Frank and/or In the Aeroplane Over the Sea for some reason. Hopefully I will find the time and money to go see it again. Based on that comparsion, I guess I really need to see this. I've actually had my eye on it for awhile, I don't think it's playing anywhere in the Wheeling area but it might be worth the roadtrip. --Mike
Gobias Industries
So the preview scared the shit outta me. Probably not a wise choice for a movie, then? The reviews have been raving, but my friends didn't quite warm up to it. Maybe it was because they were expecting a fairy tale fairytale. It that makes sense.
anodyne
fairy tales were quite frightening. the brothers grimm and perault both kind of softened the scary from them.
TheMaker
I totally missed this thread 'til right now, but Pan's is one of the best movies I've seen in recent years. Stunningly imagined, and I was reminded as I watched it of a reviewer who wrote that he was pleased it had the "guts to be a tragedy." That about hits the nail on the head. P.S., Mike Mignola should be made a fucking saint.
MeDave
finally saw this today. wow, what a great movie. A bit more of the 'real world' story and less of the fairy tale than i expected (and some scenes were brutal) but an amazing piece of filmmaking. great stuff.
