mastershake
obviously kevin doesn't understand that no one wants to see his penis, you have to be some mad cracked out dude to stand up on stage completely naked when everyone else is completely clothed. and why couldn't it have been neko case playing a concert topless? myboyblue
Ok yeah it's a bit odd, but I find this type of reaction to be a bit extreme. If this happened in Europe or any other country that doesn't have the same puritan preoccupation with nudity that we do, no one would even care. I didn't realize that musicians played nude in Europe. heile
you guys are way over reacting. he's a glam rocker. who gives hoot? he's a rock star. and i can tell you he's not crazy, or even weird. he bought me lunch for christ sakes.....

tongue-tied
and pitchfork reporting this would be like the rolling stone website showing britney's crotch. seems, i don't know, unprofessional?
brianjeremy
It was already on the web, the media outlets were just reporting the train-wreck, no fault on them I don't guess.
Dr. Steve Brule
and pitchfork reporting this would be like the rolling stone website showing britney's crotch. seems, i don't know, unprofessional? i disagree. britney's cootch was a papparazzi shot, she was not on stage. this was a public performance. if he had come out in a gorilla suit on stage that may also have been "newsworthy". janet jackson's nipple on display on a private night on the town is not newsworthy, but on the super bowl? rolling stone will jump on it. Rolling Stone and Spin and [name your "reputable" music news magazine here] reported on Wendy O. Williams's (semi-)nude performances, and when Courtney Love took her tits out during a concert, and when Shirley Manson (if I recall correctly) flashed some beav on stage. I don't see the difference here, other than the fact that Pitchfork actually showed his hog. I can't imagine that Kevin Barnes has any reasonable expectation of privacy here, or even that he would want the photos not shown. It's not as if he whipped it out in the corner for the benefit of a select few. He knew what he was doing. also, fuck pitchfork for posting this. what assholes.Totally ridiculous. solace
Pitchfork totally has the right to post them, no question there, but it only goes to further their lack of class, tact, and professionalism in my eyes. It's a fine site, but it could be so much more

solace
if Jenny Lewis flashed her tits at a Rilo Kiley show, would i expect Pitchfork to post super hi-res photos of it? no. would i expect it to be on any male-authored music-related blog on the internet? pretty much that's the difference here leave that shit to the blogs i say

SarahC
my sister actually clicked the NSFW link in the article last night and told me about it this morning. Now I get to tease her about it...what fun. though she referred to it as "man meat" which almost made me spit out my cereal.
Wendy
So that we all may have closure: "Of Montreal's Kevin Barnes Explains Nudity"Available in full frontal MP3 audio format as well Of Montreal's Kevin Barnes Explains Nudity He was just trying to bring about world peace, see So, Kevin Barnes of Of Montreal. Why'd ya do it? Why'd ya go and strip naked (except for fishnet stockings and a red cummerbund, of course) on stage in Las Vegas last week? Well, according to an interview with Dan Moore that aired on WITR, the Rochester Institute of Technology's college radio station, on February 20, he was just trying to get us all to free our minds. (Our asses would, presumably, follow). Barnes said, "I always wanted to perform naked...it's kind of my concept, to bring world peace to the Earth if everyone had to stand naked in front of their peers once a month. I think it's good because it forces you to sort of come to terms with any sort of body issues that you might have and it sort of like cleanses your emotional palette. "A lot of people get this anxiety that's like 'I was naked in front of an audience!' and stuff, but I think it's kind of cool for people to be able to face that without going to jail. That's the thing, too, I had to pick Vegas because that's the only 21+ venue we're playing on this whole tour, and I didn't want to become a sex offender, because that would be pretty dreadful."
