jakobnicholas
You can think it's a bunch of bullshit but that doesn't make it wrong. I suppose there are people who think SBS is the best Wilco record, there are probably people who get all weak-kneed when they hear It's Just That Simple too. Ha. Funny, but that's not me. I think Being There is Wilco's best. SBS might fight for second. It's funny to me how some think that liking this album means you're a wussy-boy or something. Would it be totally cool if Wilco put out an album with this lineup that sounded like Tupelo's Still Feel Gone or the ragged masterpiece "Dreamer In My Dreams"? Hell yes! But let's get real, that might require a big bag of weed, cigarettes and some alcohol. Sky Blue Sky does sound pretty. It does sound mature. The lyrics are definitely more straight-forward. For me, it's refreshing. But I can understand how some would be turned off by it. I DO think the next record will be looser and more rambunctious....Let's Not Carried Away an example. And that would be kick-ass.
Chendizzle
this is a classic example of misdirection. You're talking about how much you don't like the new wilco record so people don't realize how average your new shin's record is!! Don't let a bad choice in username from three years ago fool you, I don't think the new Shins was great either. But the lyrics in What Light should NEVER be touted as a highlight from SBS. And for the record, I do like SBS - minus What Light and Shake it Off.
LouieB
I don't know about the rest of you, but a few of the songs on this album run through my head all the time.....I just can't get them out. I would say that's a good sign. LouieB
caliber66
Just for reference, I had "Footloose" running through my head this morning. Take from that what you will.
LouieB
Just for reference, I had "Footloose" running through my head this morning. Take from that what you will. Uh oh..now THAT will be stuck in my head.... Actually it is both Either Way and Impossible Germany that are stuck in my head.... edit- I threw SBS on while doing paperwork this morning and I really enjoy it now that I have heard it several times. Not sure how anyone couldn't warm up to it with a bit of time. LouieB
bigideas
I'm eons behind everyone. With the exception of hearing What Light once on Myspace and live versions of Either Way and Walken, I had heard nothing before Wed. Obviously this thread is long and I didn't get to read every post, but I also didn't want to make my own thread just to be redirected. So here goes: First listen on my long drive home from work - thinking the Pitchfork review might be right. Next day listen on the way to work - began to love it. Now a couple days later - really loving it. 70's nods that I hear (that have prob already been pointed out) - Dark Side keyboards on Side With Seeds- Beatles Birthday esque sounding riff on Hate it Here- Houses of the Holy era Led Zep sounds - Mellotron on Side, lap steel on Walken (think Dancing Days) the only 60's i hear are Al Kooper esque B3 and folky guitar To me the only "clunker" on the album is "Leave Me." It's definitely not bad, it just doesn't have a memorable melody and/or lyrics. Every other song I can look at the title and recall some part of it, but this one I can't. It feels like an A.M. b-side or something. I think the album would be perfect without Leave Me as an 11 song album. Favorite parts of the album at this point: -the 2 bits in Shake It Off where Glen hits the cowbell(?) this little detail makes me smile, and it's even done on the DVD -the repeating one note guitar 'solo' towards the end of Walken with the band then coming in

I would say that's a good sign. LouieB I constantly get "Hate it Here" stuck in my head. I didn't get the album until the day it actually came out. I'd heard 3 or 4 songs before that but my first full listens have been this week. The backlash against the album is amusing and pretty typical. It's a very solid album. Tanner
Sky Blue Sky is another unique, and equally brilliant album. It may be different, but what is wrong with that? The lyrics are to be appreciated for their simplicity and clear emotions while the music is just beautiful. The diversity Wilco is revealing makes me anticipate the future of whatever art they wish to deliver. I must also add that Nels solo on Impossible Germany is just...wow.... caliber66
Listened to the first four songs in the car today. Big improvement over my downloaded rip.
awatt
Not thoughts, but here are my emotional reactions to each song as represented by the emoticons: Either Way-- You Are My Face-- Impossible Germany-- Sky Blue Sky-- Side with the Seeds-- Shake it Off-- Please Be Patient with Me-- Hate it Here- Leave Me (Like You Found Me)-- Walken-- What Light-- On and On and On-- (tears of joy as well as sorrow from the beauty of it all!!) markosis
I love the whole thing, 'cept for "Shake It Off." I can't get into it after the whole beauty and groove of the record up to that point. Its growing on me.
phish907
I think SBS is great. Enough of the whining from people who don't like it, Wilco is not here to please only you. If you don't like it, don't listen to it and sell it at the local used cd shop. Just don't tell me in two months after you have seen them live how great it is.

Funny, I felt Walken stands out as the odd song on this album (as you pointed out, perhaps inadvertently). I don't like it very much, kind of fits into the album like Late Greats does in AGIB. If anything I would have preferred Lets Not Get Carried Away as its replacement...its a better song and has a drum solo.
Derek
I didn't like it that much at first, but now I love it. It's fighting for my #2 favorite Wilco album spot with YHF and behind Being There
tugmoose
I got it first listen on my stereo, more than on the stream. I've already played it more times than Ghost. It's tremendous.

People are welcome to express their opinion (and even fucking change it later down the road, or isn't it supposed to fucking grow on you? ) about the new Wilco album on this, a Wilco message board. Not every post about the album has to be a glowing review. Jesus.

lost highway
Getting the real album as opposed to the mp3's from the net did alot more to solidify it. Watching the DVD sent it further home. It is a beautiful, fully realized piece of rock and roll. These guys know what they're doing. There is so much subtlety. You can sit and ask yourself what each person is playing and listen to some headphones and pick all the interweaving arrangements apart. Its great. I've decided anyone who thinks Glenn isn't doing much on this album should start taking drum lessons. Fills on Hate It Here, the beat on the faster part of Side With the Seeds is incredible.....great drumming.
Edie
After about 20 listens, my fairly solid opinion is that it is really well done. I really like the songs and I love the production. I am anxious to see it live, and based on what is in the Sun-times today, I will not have to travel this summer to do so I don't know if this will bring them more fans, but I think it will satisfy most of the existing ones. Jesusetc84
SBS is a grower. It's gone up about a star and a half since when I first heard it. That's all... talley ho!
Cunny
My first reaction was that it was ok but not Wilco's best. I would have given it 3 stars out of 5.Now I'd say 4 stars and after seeing them at ATP in UK at the weekend, those SBS songs really take on a different life on stage.I'd say it was about the 7th time I've seen Wilco and definitely the best I've ever seen them
