bböp
I didn't see this posted anywhere yet, so I figured I'd throw it up here... Apparently there will be a Chicago-area show around the album release date after all. It just won't be open to the public, at least according to today's Daily Northwestern: I almost certainly can't make it, but as an alum, I wonder how they'll deal with it when NU people invariably buy tickets for their non-NU friends. I remember when Jeff did that solo show a couple years ago at Pick-Staiger and there was that whole shitstorm between people who had NU IDs and those who didn't. I guess they're hoping to avoid that this time by saying up front that everybody has to have a WildCARD to get in. I bet that it'll still be fairly chaotic, though. Wendy
Thanks for the head's up Paul. I will gladly hit the Indy and Cinci shows with a guaranteed ticket in hand. But here's to a fun college show for the college kids! I think it's great that they do these kinds of shows.
watchtower41
damn along with a FREE Andrew Bird storytellers-esque concert at Staiger?? MUST FIND....... A way. I don't remember there being any conflict with student ID's at the Jeff solo show a couple years back, I know my friends and I certainly were never asked for any ID's, though that wasnt sold-out and I'm sure they'll make more of an effort to limit that this time around. Guest Speed Racer
I could totally transfer with three weeks to go in my senior year, right? I mean, just some nasty paperwork and, well, you know... A girl can dream.
Szabo
Hmmmm, I have to know someone that goes to Northwestern...
LouieB
It is kind of annoying that they book these kind of shows...If they have the money to book it, why is it annoying. At previous shows, VCers had no problem getting in anyway. Hmmmm, I have to know someone that goes to Northwestern...My nephew, who we turned into to a fan, does......I am an alumni. I had no idea Andrew Bird went to NU. Very cool. LouieB I could totally transfer with three weeks to go in my senior year, right? jdmel
I was a senior in hs when guster played the a&o ball, i drove up to evanston and pretended to be a student - worked. A&O ball is a really fun event...
WaronWar
So say if one wanted to go to the show and was not a Northwestern student, how would they get into the show?
alison the wilca
i wouldn't say it was no problem getting in. we were all in line and then there was some minor chaos and rumors that we couldn't get in w/o a card and then we were split into two lines. it was a hassle. I am assuming that this time around, it will be harder to get in w/o a card because of that experience.
Preferred B
Also, while last time they were very clear that you needed an ID to purchase tickets, they also made it clear that guests of students/faculty were allowed, etc. This time it sounds like they're saying you need an ID to get in, period. OOO
don't hate on me if i borrow my best friends WildCard and northwestern gear to get in.
insideoutoflove
is this the same event that i went to last year with stephen malkmus, the new pornographers and my morning jacket? cause i had no problem getting into that (though they did ask if we were NU students and we just said yes, and then were allowed in without any more questions..) i know that was an A&O production but not sure if its the same "ball" we're talking about. that was great though, really well done and an incredibly fun night. hopefully there will be a way to get in this year as well.. Szabo
Any word on how ticket sales are going for this? Will they be released to the public? I might just go up there that night and see if i can get in...
jdmel
the reason this will be a students only event is because its actually at northwestern so they have more direct control, Im sure they didnt really care at the Riv or when it was at other venues. It also seemed very clear on the website you need a student ID to enter. I dont think you need an ID for andrew bird though, just to get tickets - not to enter Plus who needs Wilco, columbias got LUPE FIASCO for free friday at manifest! Larry
Some tickets are being sold on Craigslist for this show ($10-$30). Apparently the student ID is a requirment and some are even offering that option for an extra $10. Here is a listing I found. (Date: 2007-05-06, 6:45PM CDT) (have one ticket for concert at small venue at northwestern- need a student id card to get in.. can be arranged for 10 $ extra) Good luck to anyone who can get into this show. Please pass along a review afterwards.
