anthony89
I agree with the Steely Dan in Shake It Off Does anyone hear One The Beach era Neil Young anywhere? I can hear some Ambulance Blues/Motion Pictures in Sky Blue Sky and Please Be Patient With Me, not only in song style but in production as well.
moxiebean
For some reason the beginning of "Shake It Off" reminds me of "Retreat" from Minutemen's Double Nickels on the Dime - I think it's the phrasing of the vocs. Double Nickels also has a song titled Please Don't Be Gentle With Me - coincidence?
unposed_question
I also hear Yes, the Beatles, Blind Faith, and REM. I was playing it for my fiancee (who knows Wilco through YHF) over the weekend and she said she thoughtit sounded like Don Henley and the Eagles.
OOO
I was playing it for my fiancee (who knows Wilco through YHF) over the weekend and she said she thoughtit sounded like Don Henley and the Eagles. http://news.spinner.com/2007/05/22/wilco-f...rom-the-eagles/ "Those are fighting words," Tweedy told Spinner during their Sessions taping in New York last week. "Even though it's stated in a positive manner, it seems so wildly off the mark. Did they actually listen to the record?""Did they listen to the Eagles?" Stirratt added. "At the same time, it is absolutely a truthful statement," Tweedy conceded cheekily. "It's definitely a record that the Eagles didn't put out. So is 'London Calling.'" HighFives
I hear very small hints of Loose Fur, Autumn Defense, Nels Cline Singers, Golden Smog, On Fillmore, and the Sea N Cake album Mikael Jorgenson played on.
FourStrongWinds
I agree with Bjorn, very Little Feat! the intro to Hell Is Chrome always reminds me of them also, I'd be very suprised if there isnt a few Feat records sitting in tweedys collection

I hadn't said anything to her about any reviews or comparisons, so I thought it was interesting she made the Eagles comparison since that it is the one that seems to be rankling the most muffins around here (including now Jeff and John's apparently). I think it started with her saying Jeff's voice sounded like Don Henley's...(and yes, she has listened to the Eagles.)

awatt
Sorry to resurrect this thread but I do have a realization to share.... Jeff does sound a bit like Don Henley in Hate it Hear. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
