bjorn_skurj
I like Starbucks' coffee, but only idiots let coffee shops tell them what to listen to. And I REFUSE to speak fake Italian at them. Small, medium and large is perfectly sufficient.

Reni
Admittedly, I have bought CDs at Starbucks before. I don't shop at Hot Topic. I don't go to Starbucks much anymore - I have switched over to Caribou - they have free wi-fi. I don't even drink coffee - just spruced up hot chocolate with espresso. thejokeexplained
only idiots let coffee shops tell them what to listen to. Why not major corporate coffee shops? They seem to have the same agenda as clear-channel radio when it comes to evaluating american consumers taste. Personally i support neither! I kinda like to make my own cappuccino in the morning while spinning vinyl before i go to work.
Analogman
Paul's new album will be at starbucks. That's because they are starting a record label - and he is now with them. I hope he does not have any mention of sex in his songs - they will not carry the cds if he does.

So Long
Well, I've been reading this post for a while, and seeing a lot of different reactions. I personally don't think it's that big of a deal. We're talking about a band who just wants people to hear their music, I say any vehicle to acheive that is a good vehicle.
SarahC
yep, i saw the wilco thing in starbucks... i go in there every week to ask if i can have the display when they change the cd's over. i will get the display card, dammit!

jimmyjimmy
I just wonder what kind of person decides to add a $13.99 CD to their $4.00 coffee order? This kind of person buddy, this kind. Sadlly I don't drink coffee from anywhere anymore...it doesn't agree with me. (not that anyone asked... I know this is coming, but I figure I got at least another ten to fifteen years until I have to give up maybe I need to drink it again. I bet I'll get it after the 20th time I drink it.Right. It's a "Grower" I personally don't think it's that big of a deal.*Reason*
shoesgetcold3
I hate arena concerts! I agree, the thought of seeing Wilco in an arena is scary, but truthfully I can not believe it has not already happened. When I drove to West Lafayette for the first show of the fall tour, I could not believe a 4000 hall was half full. It was depressing. But the times are changing. There is no question this thing is catching on, I mean this a 50 thread post about STARBUCKS! What could be more yuppie mainstream than that. Oh yeah, PEOPLE MAGAZINE, who also reviewed the album. Wilco is the best band making music today and sooner or later it will be so mainstream that we will appreciate the days of the small clubs. And stratch our collective heads that it took so long. rosebud
The response to this posting has exceeded my wildest expectations, touching on everything I could have hoped for, the band, coffee, the Starbucks phenomenon. Knowing that I started a discussion here is so totally validating.

Wendy
Well, I've been reading this post for a while, and seeing a lot of different reactions. I personally don't think it's that big of a deal. We're talking about a band who just wants people to hear their music, I say any vehicle to acheive that is a good vehicle.amen, walken. In a strictly marketing sense, this is brilliant product placement for SBS. So kudos to the band and management for not being afraid to lose their indie cred to use it. They have given a lot away for free in the past. So sell a few more units, man. Spread the good music! Plus, I like the idea of someone taking a random chance and picking up this Wilco CD at Starbucks, perhaps having always been curious about Wilco, but never buying any. To fall in love with a new band is a glorious feeling.
WilcoFan
Something tells me Tweedy and Wilco are ok with this product placement. If Tweedy were 15 today and there were no independent music stores he would probably be working at Starbucks and sneering at our coffee purchases.

Edie
Right on Wendy. Also, it is an awareness builder. So maybe they don't buy it at Starbucks, but while their kids are pouring over the video games at Best Buy, they'll stumble across it and say "wow, I saw that at Starbucks -- I'll try it." I say it can't hurt. Most of these types are not big concert goers anyway.
