I had high hopes for Penn State yesterday. Oh well. I also wasn't pleased with the outcomes of Florida-Georgia or South Carolina-Tennessee.

Michigan continues to inch upward in the polls, though. :thumbup

The OSU-PSU game depended on Morelli more than everthing else. PSU wins when he is confident. They ultimately lose when he loses it. I was, quite frankly, scared until Morelli stopped "showing up" mentally and just started making tons of errors. I was happy with Florida-Georgia, and moreover indifferent for South Carolina-Tennessee.

You guys virtually had a bye week. It was damn Minnesota. They lost to North Dakota State, of all people.

I kind of figured that since they were playing Iowa State, that even though I left out the "state" people would figure I was referring to Iowa State and no Iowa. I apologize for the confusion.

NEVER say IOWA while referring to Iowa State and assume you'll get away with it, that is a disgrace to every Hawkeye fan. :headbonk

In other news, killer victory for IOWA yesterday over the Spartans...double OT win at home

I was definitly disappointed that Penn State couldn't bring more for OSU

Ya know, Saturday night was the first time so far this season I allowed myself to believe--just a little bit--that OSU might be the real deal this year. Morelli's inconsistency is a given, so I was never too concerned about that aspect of the game. I was more interested in watching how Boeckman would fare against a solid D in a hostile environment. Not too shabby. If he can play like that in big games, they've got a shot at this thing.

Our starting running back (who is by far the most important offensive player on the team) and starting quarterback were out. Certainly still a much better team than Minnesota, but it wasn't a forgone conclusion that it would be a route.

Ironically around the time you lost both people (3rd game? 4th game?) you started beating people by considerable amounts of points...

Not really. Henne was out vs. Notre Dame, but Hart ran for 187 and two scores in that one. Henne also didn't play vs. Penn State, but Hart ran for 153 and a TD, and that game was close. They both played in the next two games. Hart didn't play vs. Illinois, but Henne got a good chunk of time, and that game was not a blowout. This was really the first game where both of them were out.

KU is freakin' 8-0 and ranked #8.

I never saw this coming.

I guess they picked the right season to not play both Texas and Oklahoma. Might just land them a BCS berth (assuming they get past Mizzou, OSU, et al).

the schedule is definately in their favor. even so, the way they are playing it probably wouldn't matter if Texas and Oklahoma were on the schedule. they are playing with supreme confidence, have had no significant injuries and pay no mind to their bumbling past. they are just plain getting it done. i can't wait till the mizzou game, but they are just focused on the huskers this saturday.

one game at a time.

Thanks! Tough loss for you guys though!

No doubt. It's been a pretty rough week around here with the fire and everything.

Same ole Gamecocks, though. Get our hopes up only to have them flattened. Not sure about the game this weekend but if we have another first half like the UT game, we're pretty much doomed.

How humiliating for Notre Dame. I love it.

My Wolverines gave me quite the scare tonight, but everything turned out okay. I'm glad Henne came through late, but it wouldn't have been that close if he hadn't been repeatedly missing a wide open Manningham all game until then.

Well, the military may not be able to win the war against extremist Muslims, but apparently they can beat the Catholics.

The last time this happened, JFK was still alive and I wasn't yet potty trained. :P

It's ok. :hug Like Charlie says, you guys will be very good again in one or two years. Times are tough but the Irish will be back in no time. Just have to get through a bit of gloating this year.

Notre Dame is hamstrung this year by the bad recruiting of the last head coach. The talent just isn't there like in the past. From they way Wyse has recruited the last 2 years, ND will be more than fine for the future. At least ND has the luxury to be able to say that. Next year Michigan is going to be hurting. Carr hasn't recruited very well the last couple of years. This recruiting class isn't going to be much better when Carr "retires" at eh end of the season. Hopefully UM will be able to get a really good replacement. cough-cough Les Miles cough cough. And he will be able to make up for the shortcomings of the talent.

Michigan got itself into trouble because every pass play of the 3rd quarter was a bomb attempt to Mario. The sad part is that he was open on 3 of the 4 attempts but Henne kept overthrowing him. In the 4th when they started throwing out-routes and plays in the middle of the field Michigan moved the ball just fine.

His first two years, with Willingham's recruits, Weis went 9-3 and 10-2. He's now 1-8 with mostly his own recruits. Yeah, Willingham's last full recruiting class (incoming 2004) wasn't great, but I'm not sure I see your point here.

ND does have the current #1 recruiting class for 2008 according to scout.com, however. We'll see if Weis can do anything with those kids. Or maybe we won't, considering how the Irish faithful like to run underperforming coaches out of town.

Also, Michigan's recruiting classes have consistently been national top-10 (again, per scout.com) going back to 2003. Carr doesn't have much trouble recruiting. He may be losing his grip as far as actual coaching, but the team is reasonably well stocked for the future. They'll lose several major names after this year (Henne, Hart, Long, Crable, Arrington) but this freshman quarterback looks decent, and the defense has a pretty good young core coming up. I'm mostly worried about the offensive line for next year without Long and Kraus, but we'll see who takes their place.

Yeah, the play calling until late in the game was just stupid. They'd run for no gain on first down, then uncork a bomb. Even my mama knows you throw the bomb on second and short, not second and 10.
