jc4prez
http://lastwaltzer.blogspot.com/2007/09/fl...adison-wis.html I know this should go in after the show but the article takes more of a moral stand point and deals with the band as a whole so I thought it would be better prestend here. benjamin
If that writer was so concerned about the ethics of boobs, why wasn't he concerned about the ethics of booze (Southern Comfort Festival)? From what I recall those images up on the screen are not done in a deviant distasteful sexual manner. Didn't hippies preach about peace, love, and understanding? I think it's fairly obvious that they didn't see breasts (wonderful glorious breasts) as being offensive.
SarahC
boobies aren't that bad... but i don't know if i would want to have to deal with them at a rcok show. it's just sort of weird...

stickman
I'm a little tired of their schpeel though. It's great how much fun their concerts are but they've been doing (essentially) the same show for the past five years or so. I want them to try something new!

Stefanie
There was no UFO/spaceship at the Red Rocks show last night.... that could possibly be because it was a festival show and not one of their own. my best friend was in costume dancing on stage with them last night. i'm soooo jealous! mountain bed
My take on preaching about peace & love is that it's best left to the preachers to do the preaching. I don't go to rock shows to hear the band talk about their philosophy or whatever. In fact, having a microphone to talk into to the adoring (stoned) masses can come perilously close to fascism. Just play the music & let THAT stand for your viewpoint. An intimate, solo show is quite different for some reason (at least to me). I know I've heard people like Guthrie & Prine tell some wonderful stories onstage between songs... but then that's part of their thing.

jc4prez
i can't understand how someone could be so prudish about a rock concert. a naked woman! avert your eyes! Its not a matter of being a prude. I love the way everyone thinks its a matter of their being something wrong with nudity. Your missing the point. There was no point to the nudity. It's not gross or anything like that; I'm trying to ask you to think how you might feel if you were in someone elses shoes and how it could make them feel. Its kind of like when Moutian Bed is saying he doesn't want to hear people preach at a concert; well i don't want to go out to look at pornography that is going to make someone who doesn't fit that image feel bad about it. Or something that is going to take someone out of what should be a postive experince.

They did the UFO at Bonnaroo but not when I saw them in Florida for a regular show. And if it offends you, you can walk away. It's their artistic choice. Whether you disagree with it or not is not the issue.

Or something that is going to take someone out of what should be a postive experince. how could this surprise someone at a flaming lips show? the cover for my At War With The Mystics 5.1 cd/dvd is galactic material forming an obvious vagina. the half baked story for the record was something along the lines of a wizard finding this giant galaxy-birthing naked woman in space. the naked and visual-effects-laden woman dancing is THE visual for this album. if you follow the band back to yoshimi, there's the "Do You Realize" video with topless women, who'd also be mixed with furries onstage. further back there's songs about bleeding vaginas, or loops of the orgasm scene from "When Harry Met Sally". I'm not damning anyone who'd dislike seeing this, but i do find it funny that someone would be taken completely off-guard, as if they walked into an R-rated movie by mistake. i don't see this as sexist any futher than the band obviously doesn't find male nudity as appealing. it certainly isn't as suggestive as the way (barely) clothed females are portrayed in music videos on MTV, BET, or CMT. remphish1
I have seen the Lips about 5 times. Each time it gets more ridiculous which I guess is their schtick. I wish though they would drop that stuff and play a rock show with just their instruments. All this technology leads them to never change their setlist. I woud love to see the Lips "Unplugged" Anyone else agree?
