Mystik Spiral
The good news is that people will tune in at least until the Rockies lose again... if the Rockies lose again...
tugmoose
I must say, I'm a bit shocked at what has happened with this ALCS.Sabathia and Carmona don't last 5 innings and the Indians are up, 3-1? Maybe God likes Cleveland, too. Still, "shocked" might be a bit strong, since both teams won 96 games during the season. And, don't forget, the Indians played four "home" games on the road (at Milwaukee and Seattle).
bjorn_skurj
Well, you know how it is. You live in the New York mediaverse, and it's Yankees, Mets, Red Sox - all NL and AL easts and everything else is not as clearly in focus, if not obscured entirely.

I mean, in Chicago, it's Bears, Bears, Bears, Bears, Cubs, Cubs, Bulls, White Sox, Packers. Back-to-back-to-back is kinda cool. I'm still going to bed. Did the Red Sox do a back-to-back-to-back-to-back (4x) in a regular season game recently? Was that in 2006?
Analogman
Fox must be shitting straight up at the prospect of a Colorado-Cleveland series. I predict the rating would be low.

Analogman
I think if the Yankees or Red Sox or some other big team is not in the WS, the numbers go down. I could be wrong.
Sir Stewart
I think I'll photoshop a straightjacket onto Terry Francona and make an animated gif of him twitching in the dugout. He's gone mad.

No, not really. Yeah, the local teams get more coverage than others, but every time the Yankees and Red Sox play each other, it's still plastered all over ESPN here as much as it is in New York. Sir Stewart
Did anyone see that Buckner/Sox ad for the movie The Comebacks? I was on the phone with me mum - only saw it, couldn't hear it. Any funny?
ZenLunatic
No, not really. Yeah, the local teams get more coverage than others, but every time the Yankees and Red Sox play each other, it's still plastered all over ESPN here as much as it is in New York. ESPN is not local. MrRain422
I know that. It's national, and therefore the entire nation gets Red Sox/Yankees coverage. That was my point.

I could be wrong. No, you're right, but you're also hardly the first to make that observation. Yeah, the local teams get more coverage than others, but every time the Yankees and Red Sox play each other, it's still plastered all over ESPN here as much as it is in New York.Exactly. ESPN and the networks don't often broadcast games nationally that don't involve either the Red Sox or the Yankees. I get pretty sick of that. Whenever I see "MLB Baseball" on the cable program guide on TV, I think "will it be the Red Sox, Yankees, or both?" Then I click the Info button and see who the teams are. A large majority of the time it's one or both.
ZenLunatic
I like the Red Sox and Yankees matchups. Its a classic matchup in baseball. Kinda like the Pats vs. Indy matchup in NFL. I look foward to it. Although I like to see other teams win, when the matchup happens, its always fun because all the history involved. I dont pay attention to ESPN baseball, so dont know what they favor. During regular season, I only watch the Cubs. It's only playoffs that I would watch any other baseball game than a Cubs game. And I have enjoyed the Yanks and Red Sox series so much. I think the year the Red Sox cameback in from 0-3 in the WS was probably the best WS I ever saw. Second was when Diamond Backs beat Yanks. But isn't kind of watered down and doesn't it lose its appeal (particularly for those outside of the greater NE region) when ESPN shows all 17-18 regular-season games between the two teams? We get it -- it's a rivalry. It's like Duke basketball -- ESPN shows every Duke game. It's not hard to understand where the perception that ESPN only shows those teams comes from.
