But isn't kind of watered down and doesn't it lose its appeal (particularly for those outside of the greater NE region) when ESPN shows all 17-18 regular-season games between the two teams? We get it -- it's a rivalry. It's like Duke basketball -- ESPN shows every Duke game. It's not hard to understand where the perception that ESPN only shows those teams comes from.

I guess I dont get exposed to that cause I only see the matchups in the playoffs which didnt even happen this year. I guess it can get old for people not in the region.

I get a kick out of people acknowleging that the Red Sox and Yankees are both great for ratings on the one hand but then complaining that they show too many of their games on the other. The ratings are high because a lot of people watch those games. A lot of people want to watch those games. What's wrong with catering to what most people want to watch? It's not like they show every game, either. You get your chance to watch "your" team as well.

The hype over BOS/NYY has died down a bit since 2004. It's not as annoying, imo, as it was previous to 2004. But again, it's still a long-standing rivalry that'll always be there. It's still a great rivalry whether you're sick of it or not. BOS and NY are huge markets which put out contending teams year after year and that's not going to change.

I dont pay attention to ESPN baseball, so dont know what they favor. During regular season, I only watch the Cubs. It's only playoffs that I would watch any other baseball game than a Cubs game. And I have enjoyed the Yanks and Red Sox series so much. I think the year the Red Sox cameback in from 0-3 in the WS was probably the best WS I ever saw. Second was when Diamond Backs beat Yanks.

The Red Sox have never played, and will never play, the Yankees in the World Series. That was the ALCS. :P

Ohh yeah, It just felt like the WS in my memory. I think they beat the Cards in 4 games or something afterwards, much less interesting.

I like the Red Sox and Yankees matchups. Its a classic matchup in baseball. Kinda like the Pats vs. Indy matchup in NFL.

Pats v Indy a "classic matchup"? Who you crappin'?

Maybe not classic but for the last couple of years, it has been the one to watch. The two best teams in the last couple of years. Brady vs. Manning as the best QB ever.

OK, but you compared it to Yankees/Red Sox; hence my confusion.

No, you're right, but you're also hardly the first to make that observation.

Exactly. ESPN and the networks don't often broadcast games nationally that don't involve either the Red Sox or the Yankees. I get pretty sick of that.

Whenever I see "MLB Baseball" on the cable program guide on TV, I think "will it be the Red Sox, Yankees, or both?" Then I click the Info button and see who the teams are. A large majority of the time it's one or both.

Sorry - I should not even post in this thread today.

Yeah for me, I only started getting into the NFL a couple years back so dont know the classic matchups of the old days. Even with the Yanks and BSox, I assume there is a huge history but dont know much about it. Just know what I saw in that decade or so. I am from Chicago so I mostly pay attention to the NL until playoffs. So I made the relation on exciting matchups in sports of recent. Maybe classic was the wrong word, but you can see the NE and Indy teams having some great battles for years to come.

You're aware of that other team in town I hope? The one that actually won the World Series within the last century?

Did Pedroia pull an A-Rod last night and try to slap the ball out of someone's glove? I didn't see it, but people are calling up about it on Mike and the Mad Dog.

Absolutely he did. Kid's got drive! :lol

I know that. It's national, and therefore the entire nation gets Red Sox/Yankees coverage. That was my point.

You used the term NY mediaverse to describe national coverage?

I haven't read the last 20 or so pages of this thread, so could someone please update me...has Kate moved to Denver yet so she can have another team in the World Series?

Thanks, I'll hang up now so I can listen to the answer.

That's why I love Manny. He is going to go out there and try to win, but he also knows how to keep thing in a cosmic perspective. As much as I want the Sox to come through the rest of the series, I know there will always be another year. Manny also knows there are more important things in life, and for him that includes blazing tree.
