It is possible I need to give it another chance, I just liked the old stuff so much, what I loved was that it almost sounded like just one microphone and him singing, so simple yet so beautiful...

This new one just seems a little over-the-top for him and it sounds like his voice is even altered in the studio a little bit.

Maybe I just need to get used to it, I am not done with it, that's for sure.

hmm.... had you not heard the Woman King EP? or seen them live in the last 2 years?

the new record isn't that far off that, so it shouldn't have come as a huge surprise imo.

personally i've loved his evolution so far

babyshambles - shotter's nation

:blink and here I thought I was the only one... :thumbup

Though outside of Spoon and Deerhoof I disagree with the rest of your list... :lol

edit: not that I've heard every album on the rest of your list, but SBS was a major disappointment for me and I couldn't get into the Dungen. Haven't heard the others...

KANYE WESST "GRADUATION"

I forgot about that one.

It may make my Top 5 when all is said and done, but is certainly Top 10.

Kalle, I saw you put The Acorn on your list. I had never heard of them before, and I listened to their album the other day and it blew me away. Amazing stuff!

Isn't it simply amazing? Turns out there was a small 500 run of Glory Hope Mountain on Vinyl that they are selling at shows. I don't own a working turntable, and I still bought the thing.

Yeah guys the Acorn are absolutely fantastic. They've played the Sault here twice now and the last time was at the local record store/coffee shop thing where I play alot. 20 people showed up I sat down on the floor right in front of them it was fantastic.

As for Miracle Fortress I saw them live last week in Toronto! I saw Neil Young on the Monday and on Tuesday I got tickets to see Stars and Miracle Fortress opened up! They were great and as were Stars. Stars played 22 songs and they were sooooooo slick it was a really good show. Too bad lizish doesn't like them!

Also lizish have you heard Cuff The Duke's first album? It was pure art-rock. I saw them open for Sloan maybe 4 years ago. Then they came out with their second album I believe and it was super country and I was completely shocked. This new record is as good as the two previous but they are a fun band nonetheless.

I can't begin to do a "best of", but I'm loving Joe Henry's "Civilians", The Everybodyfields' "Nothing Is Okay", Johnathan Rice's "Further North", Patrick Park's "Everyone's In Everyone", and Mendoza Line's "30 Year Low".

I know I'm neglecting some incredible stuff. These are just off the top of my head.

I guess so. I know you have wonderful taste.

Aw, you're sweet. In some things I do, anyway. (I like to think.:P) These are all great albums. There was so much this year to savor!

I'm not one of those who is into obscurity for obscurity's sake.....it makes me crazy that musicians as good as these have to struggle for notice! :pirate
