ction
I'd pay upwards of $5 US dollars for a DVD of Jodie Foster's character from Nell fighting a UFC-style bout against the guitar hero from Berklee.
Guest David Puddy
that still has nothing to do with the FACT that i can kick your ass

lamradio
this is priceless. we're all proud of you and your vast knowledge of music. i'm sorry to have ever said anything bad about nels, i just didn't realize he was good until you pointed it out... you know, me being just some idiot that's tought himself how to play guitar, and you being so smart, talented and well-educated. Yeah, I knew that was coming.. And don't get me wrong, you don't have to be educated to point out a great guitarist, I guess I was kind of being a jackass by saying that.. I just get a little defensive when people talk bad about Nells because in my opinion, he's a brilliant guitarist and I wish I could play half as good as him.. I actually taught myself how to play too, and I dropped out of Berklee... LOL.. But sorry I offended you David Puddy.. No hard feelings.. Just like I said, I was just steemed when I wrote that post...
caliber66
There are a lot of people whom I recognize as excellent guitarists, and also whom I'm not interested in hearing coming from my CD player. I like Nels okay, and no doubt he's really good at hitting the notes he wants, and getting the tones he wants from his guitar, but it's okay if he's not my favorite guitarist EVAR, even though he's very accomplished. It's okay for people to be disappointed that the band they like has done something they don't like as much as what they have done.
lamradio
Can I borrow your Dream Theater shirt? Knew that was coming too.. hahaha.. That's the part I didn't like about Berklee.. I called them "musical weight lifters".. The Dream Theater wannabees.. .. See how many notes you can play in the shortest amount of time.. Or writing music that is definitely technical, but is so technical that it becomes FUBAR.. So if I had a Dream Theater shirt, you don't have to borrow it, you could keep it.. Man, I didnt even think it was possible to laugh as hard as I did at your post ction.. Ok, sorry for my arrogant post about Berklee people!! I mean, I should atleast get some kind of recognition for going there and becoming a "guitar hero".. The school didn't do much for my music career and I'll be paying on the student loans for the rest of my life....
Shortage of Cashews
oh lord, you're going to start a riot. and then i'm going to steal your tv. Are there folks that uptight around here these days? I think you'd probably be downgrading by stealing my television--it's not very good.

Guest Muncle Douchey
my very, very good friend tells me yesterday that he thinks nels has ruined wilco. i can't say i agree. should i stab him when i see him this weekend? so, after seeing the two shows the last two nights, i have in fact decided to stab my friend. nels contributions to these two shows were simply miraculous! TakiSC
Because behind all of the facades that everybody puts up, about 93% of people on this earth need reassurance from other people to make themselves feel like they belong and that they are liked. At least that is what the teacher said when I took a Psychology class. 93% of all statistics are made-up on the spot.
Demon Moving Forward
Ever since I've told my friend I was at the Wilco concert, he's made it a point to bring up that they suck every single time I run into him.

ChooChooCharlie
Can I borrow your Dream Theater shirt? :lol Nels hasn't ruined Wilco, Tweedy has.I couldn't agree more. I also think Scorsese ruined Goodfellas.93% of all statistics are made-up on the spot. :D Ever since I've told my friend I was at the Wilco concert, he's made it a point to bring up that they suck every single time I run into him.I know that guy. He's always 'rockin' that super-cool "Your Favorite Band Sucks" t-shirt under his popped collar, and he signed my yearbook, "Have a good summer fuckface" Didn't someone say "Nels is essential"...And as for Rock Star posturing I say the world was a lot more fun when there was more of that .My friends that saw Wilco recently for the first time pointed out how rare it is to see a songwriter at a peak like Jeff is, with a band so tight and focused as Wilco is right now. I think all of the different line ups have their strong points its so fun to watch the evolution.Nailed it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I agree the newest incarnation of wilco has something to prove by putting out an album in the same category as YHF, AGIB, ST, and BT -- but they are quite possibly the best live band in the world right now (sorry Arcade Fire, you know I love you) because of this lineup. Just listened to a JT interview and he said Pat is as good a musician as Nels and Glenn and he loves the rock star antics. He also called Mikael a 'genuis.' Nels fits in well with the band b/c he is so secure in his abilities he doesn't feel the need to take control over any aspect of the band -- and he loves interpreting other's work. And if anyone doubts the brilliance of my aforementioned opinions, I majored in Pretending to Know What I'm Talking About at YALE, so step off (I also have my own parking spot and drive a Dodge Stratus). Elixir Sue
For the longest time, I wasn't a Nels fan (as my earlier posts in this thread reflect), but the last few Wilco shows I've seen and/or heard have completely changed my mind. Hopefully his tenure in Wilco will be long and prolific.
zark
Hells bells, I love Nels...I was at a show a few years back here in Charleston and we were 3rd row, smack dab in front of Nels and my friend kept saying "the tall dude is freaking me out." Nels seemed to be possessed by the music. Later during the "Kingpin" encore Tweedy called out my friend for not participating in the call and response.
jimjiminy
93% of all statistics are made-up on the spot.Forfty percent of all people know that. I'll jump in with my $.02. Nels is simply amazing. Having said that, I miss Jay Bennett's solo on "I Got You."
Three dollars and 63 cents
The world needs people to say boo hiss to Nels to balance out the people like me who adore him. Otherwise his ego would get too big, and it would wreck the band. I don't think anybody's work has ever changed the way I listen to music as much as his has. I've discovered so many possibilities in the last few months that I never even knew about before. Last summer, had you said "improvisational jazz guitar" to me, I would've run away screaming. Now I really love it. Whether you like what he's brought to Wilco or not, you've got to say Nels is finally getting what he deserves. He busted his ass in obscurity for years, and I admire him for never giving up. It doesn't seem like some success has changed him, either--he's still passionate about his craft and as humble as can be, almost dumbfounded that people like his music. The only rockstar thing about him is his red pants!
