uncool2pillow
A solid LP. I was hoping for more evidence of Tweedy's production, but it's still very good.
jff
Guitar Heroes is going to go over like gangbusters in concert.
LouieB
Interesting comment about "evidence" of Jeff's production. I have nearly all the records he has produced in the last few years and aside from his playing and his choice of session people, I am curious what you mean by that. What should I be listening for that is evidence of his production. Seriously curious about this. LouieB
jff
I guess it doesn't sound Jay Bennett-y enough for it to be an obvious Jeff Tweedy production.
uncool2pillow
Mostly something different from Thompson's recent output. Maybe some dissonance or odd drumbeats like on Tweedy or Mavis Staples.
Vacant Horizon
Tweedy's production is so minimal yet meticulous that I'm surprised that the Tweedy album as so sloppy and under-produced, IMHO.
Chez
Did anyone go to the RT show last night at the Vic? Did JT make an appearance?
LouieB
Sadly I did not. But I am curious about that as well. LouieB
uncool2pillow
I haven't seen any word about RT's set at SS. I am curious.
The Inside of Outside
Solid set. He can play. Other than one or two songs in the set, though, I wasn't captivated. I guess I would say he is a fantastic guitar player, playing generally good, but not often great, songs. I realize that is heresy to some, but it is what I took away from it. uncool2pillow
One of my favorites, but I get that he's not for everybody. No collaborations with Tweedy or Cline I assume?
theashtraysays
No collaborations that I know of. No sign of him on Sunday at all. I loved his set on Saturday. Jim Elkington played a couple tunes in the set. Richard's bass player was an interesting cat as well.
Yaz Rock
Huge RT fan here; but also not blown away by his set this weekend as his catalog can be hit or miss for me. He likes to often play some stuff I'm not terribly fond of, and some of my favorites I have never heard him do. Hmph. The highlight of his Solid Sound was that heavy version of For Shame of Doing Wrong, which I'd never heard him do with the full band before. Still, (no pun intended) it was great to see him, and I did like the fact he doesn't shy away from playing new stuff, and that he mixes up his sets drastically from tour to tour. Mr. Heartbreak
I was impressed. Never a big fan (not that crazy about his voice), but he rocked pretty hard. His old stuff in the 60s and 70s was kind of mellow. Interesting that he has turned into more of a rocker over the years.
jff
There's a really good interview with RT on Premier Guitar's FB page. He goes into some detail with regard to JT's production style. I'd link to it, but for some reason, this forum won't let me post links (or quote others.) Anyone know why that might be?
