SoMisunderstood
Why are they at The Riv? Why was there no Music Today pre-sale for individual shows? This is BS. Their a big band, why aren't they playing at the Auditorium or the Chicago Theater? Why The Riv? Not only is it a small venue, it's a shitty small venue. Obviously I didn't get tickets. SoMisunderstood
so would you be complaining about the Riv if you had gotten tickets? yeah...i hate that f'ing place. even before tickets went on sale I didn't get it. Not only is it a bad venue with bad sound and shitty sightlines, but it's a complete dump as well. This is a HUGE event, why not have it at a great venue like the Auditorium or the Chicago. It's obvious Wilco is going for an "event" with 5 days and this whole thing with unique sets and running through the entire catalog. And yet when it comes to the venue they pick the worst one in the entire city?
mountain bed
I'm a bit of a Luddite myself. To hell with all these pre-sales. How many are there for any given show? By the time the shows actually go on sale half of the effin tickets are already gone.

I am not pissed off because I did get tickets. The entire system sucks, with way too much anxiety and anger; that much we can all agree on I guess. It is really simply the luck of the internet if you can get tickets or not, nothing else. Hit the refresh button EXACTLY at the right time and you are blessed; one false move and you end up pissed off and left out. LouieB

But I assume these 5 concerts are going to be a destination thing for a lot of Wilco fans. Every theater in Chicago is historic. The Auditorium is historic. The Chicago is historic. And they're also incredible places to see concerts. I also don't think it's luck of the internet. I've never had a problem getting tickets to Wilco shows...the Metro shows a couple of years back, the many Auditorium shows. Just not happy with how this was handled but again, I didn't get tickets. Hopefully they record and release the entire thing.

SoMisunderstood
The Auditorium or the Chicago Theater solve a lot of problems I feel. They're bigger but not too big and they're nice/sound better.

Prose
Its great that they are doing this no matter the venue. The Riv isn't as exquisite as the Auditorium or Chicago Theatre for sure, but I have seen awesome Wilco gigs there. I have not got tix to shows before and thats no problem, if I want to see someone its never mission impossible to get in. So I will be there on Sat, somehow. That said, it does suck that after going to Wilco shows since 94 this was the first time that I was shut out on the on sale date(sorry for the whining). Heck the Kicking TV Vic shows were a cakewalk to get tix to, and I got some great seats to Millenium Park thru the Music Today preasale. The reality is that scalpers are onto Wilco and their success as a touring band and from what i saw on Fri/Sat the era of easy to tix for Wilco is over. The only solution I could figure out is if they set up some sort of mail order system like the Dead had if they want to insure tix get into the fans hands and not brokers. chitaper
The only solution I could figure out is if they set up some sort of mail order system like the Dead had if they want to insure tix get into the fans hands and not brokers. The Dead only got a percentage of tickets, you still had a damn good chance of getting shut out of a popular show. I think I only got about half the Deer Creek tickets I mail ordered for. And there were plenty of scalpers of Dead tickets. This was a tough ticket, there's more Wilco fans who want to go at $45 a ticket than there are seats available. And I like the Riv! Beats the hell out of the Aragon and I never feel right at a seated rock show. I don't remember too many people complaining about Lounge Ax, the Riv is like a palace compared to that place (not that I didn't love it!). I'm dreading the day we'll have to see them in hockey arenas.
ckc
Why are they at The Riv? Why?!? Because the acoustics at the Aragon ain't so great, because the Riv is 2x as big as the Vic and Metro yet still relatively intimate for a band this "big", because big "Bessie" (aka the Uptown) is closed for now, and the top reason they are at the Riv -- so I can walk the 4 blocks to/from the show...that's why! Thank you Jeff for choosing the Riv and for playing 5 nights in an otherwise dreary month.

Artifex
All I know is I've seen The Slip, MMJ, and Spoon at the Riv, and never had a problem getting way up close, and always wished I could do the same at a Wilco show. I always felt very distanced the two times I saw them at the Auditorium. And it was a bitch to get decent tickets ( which didn't really even happen anyways). The Riv ain't even that bad. It's got 'character'.

It's got 'character'. I've seen Wilco at the Auditorium a few times (first time they played there at the end of the YHF tour, then 2 different times on AGIB). I've also seen Tom Waits at the Auditorium. And seen shows at the Chicago theater. And shows at the Riv and Vic over the years. 1. Give me the Chicago Theater over the Auditorium any day. Better sightlines IMHO. Even the time I had good seats for Wilco I felt like I was far away. I've decided if I'm looking at the balcony at the AT - I'll just buy the frickin DVD when (if) it comes out. 2. It seems like Wilco - between their presale and the XRT presale - did all they could to see that fans (those who would buy all 5 nights) got first crack at tickets. 3. While I'm getting to the point (age / decrepitude) that I enjoy a good sit-down show on occasion . . . I'd rather have a chance to be shut out for tickets and see Wilco at the Riv or any other Chicago standing room than be somewhere else. I'm not being magnimonious because I have tickets. I don't. I just think the Auditorium is big-time overrated for a rock show. Ian
neutrino
just dont stand under the balcony/in front of the bar, because i have found the sound to be pretty muddy there Not only is the sound muddy under the balcony, but that's where everyone stands who just showed up to make an appearance, talk on their cell phones or incessantly talk at the top of their lungs with their backs to the stage.. But hey, enjoy the show!
nalafej
I was looking around Craigslist. If somebody has tickets listed for over face and you hit the prohibited link to the right do they do anything about it?
neutrino
I was looking around Craigslist. If somebody has tickets listed for over face and you hit the prohibited link to the right do they do anything about it? Why would you do that? There is no policy regarding concert ticket sales on craigslist.. Now if you find any listings for blood, bodily fluids or body parts, then you should click the "prohibited" link. nalafej
Why would you do that? To prevent people from reselling tickets above face value. I guess they don't have a policy, but they sure ask nicely. (please do not sell tickets for more than face value)
