jenbobblehead
I am watching Red Sox Spring Training LIVE. And i just realised that in two weeks i will be out of the NESN Viewing Area and i think i need to breath into a paper bag now.
Lammycat
I am NOT watching the Red Sox ST KIVE or re-run as I do NOT live in the nesn viewing area. But thanks for rubbing it in. There's always the photos, I suppose. ed. You are now obligated to give a detailed play-by-play of all movements, gestures, comments, etc. of Red Sox platers and personnel, a la a Wilco show report. Lammycat
A study done by researchers at the U. of Penn. looked at every MLB ball put into play between 2002-2005 and assessed defensive players. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10647918 For whatever the study is worth, A-Rod (during his time in TEX) was among the best shortstops (no surprise there). Jeter, however, rated among the worst (surprising). OFs that rated in the top are Coco Crisp, Gary Matthews, Jr., and Jason Michaels. Worst OFs include Willy Mo Pena and Bernie Williams. Duck-Billed Catechist
OF Fukodome unlikely to play CF for Cubs. http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/playernew...amp;line=228769Ironic because he reportedly turned down more money from the White Sox because they wanted him to play CF. Lammycat
Sounds like they're just trying to re-invent zone rating, no?Yeah, the information regarding the study is fairly vague but it does seem similar. Unlike zone rating, however, they came up with a "probability model for the average fielder in each position" and compared players to players. I think ZR is based mostly (among other factors) on line drives/popped balls and the probability of making the play, if i understand it correctly.

Twisted Acres
I really hope the Marlins get that new ballpark, 2 world championships in 15 years of existence, the franchise surely deserves it. The retractable dome seems a necessary addition.
bobbob1313
LOL I find this alot more amusing than the "Marlins Mermaids", at least. Some fans are really pissed off about this, I think it's all in good fun. Probably not good to post something that ridiculous while discussing the merits of the franchise as a major league commodity. Hopefully when we get the stadium, stupid gimmicks like this will be over. Apparently the new stadium will supposedly have an aquarium and a cigar shop, among other things. I'm excited to see an official design released.
