jcroach
I'm going to Las Vegas in the spring for the first time. Who's been before? So, give me some tips. Where to go, what to see, loosest slots, cheapest drinks, best buffet. I love brew-pubs. Whenever I travel I try to search out good, fresh craft beer. It looks like there are a ton of brew-pubs in Vegas. Any that anyone would recommend? How about the Vegas Hofbrauhaus? What's a good/fun table games to start on for an absolute novice? How about old downtown Vegas? How's the Freemont Street Experience? Thanks!
PigSooie
The gambling in Vegas sucks. If you want to sit and play for a long time on minimal money, learn to play Paigow Poker. The cheapest way to drink is go to the sports book when the horses are running, and bet a $2 exacta. They'll give you one or two drink vouchers each time you do this. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than getting bent over by some dealer. Go see The Beatles Love show at The Mirage. Where are you staying?
Sir Stewart
Do you have any interest in doing psychotropic drugs? Because if you do, Vegas is the place to indulge.

remphish1
I stayed at the Golden Nugget in the old downtown. Although I liked the hotel the location was faaaaar from the strip. Sure it was a fun area to walk around for a few hours but the strip is where it is at. In terms of beauty there are some casinos that have amazing archeteture and are fun to look at . I really liked Wynn, Belagio, Venetian, Ceasers and Mandalay Bay. I ate at Spago in Cesears and that was tasty! Clubs have long lines and are expensive. I went to the Palms waited online for 30 minutes and left because I am impatient. Hope this helps!
poppydawn
It took a free ticket to a U2 show to finally get me to Vegas. You might consider seeing who's in town when you're there; there's an excitement about a one-off show that isn't there for the Vegas regulars. Plus, it makes for good people-watching/celebrity-spotting. If you like seafood, check out the buffet at Mandalay Bay. It was $25 and worth it. If you want to do the celebrity chef thing, Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill in Caesar's Palace is divine. I hate watching that jackass on Food TV, but damn if he can't operate a restaurant. It's spendy; I dropped $50 for lunch, but it was worth the experience. Use the monorail system. It's free, and it's great for getting from one end of the strip to the other. Drink tons of water or else you'll feel like a prune. The shopping at Paris is pretty fun. So's the art gallery at the Bellagio. Go there to see the fountains, of course, but also the conservatory and the Dale Chihuly flower ceiling in the lobby. If you're into art, that is.

Those are the "conference hotels." Never heard of Paigow Poker. Any online sites where I could learn to play? Is this usually a table game or an electronic style game? I've never been much for OTB style gambling, but 2 free drinks for a $2 bet is a bargain! I

And
I've used this website before as a guide, and it has not led me astray. Cheapo Vegas I enjoy playing low minimum bet roulette for hours and hours, but that is just me.
cryptique
Las Vegas is a silly place. Probably best avoided. (my opinion, obviously)
gogo
I love Las Vegas, which is kind of odd considering that I'm not really much of a gambler. I just love the people-watching, seeing the ridiculousness of the decor, watching the volcano erupt and the pirate-ship battles, etc. Basically, I like it because it's silly. I usually stay at the Mirage and go to the spa there (I love spas!), but I'm guessing they've got something equivalent at Paris. I also enjoyed Love, but I'm a sucker for any Cirque du Soleil. One of the fun things about staying at the Mirage the last time I was there was that because it's where Love is based, everything in the hotel is vaguely Beatles-themed. A Beatles-themed nightclub was under construction while we were there, and all the piped-in music was the Beatles. Pretty cool. Paris/Bally's are pretty central on the strip, but you could easily spend a day just wandering up and down the strip, checking out each hotel. The monorail will definitely get you where you're going (as will city buses), but it's worth it to walk around and see all the sights. And yes, drink lots of water! Oh, and food: I like a good meal as much as the next person, but one of the fun things about the newer hotels is the themed food courts. Paris has a little Parisian street (one of those deals with the phony sky, which is a little creepy but kind of cool), and I love the section of New York New York that's done up as a miniature Greenwich Village street, where you can shop, and eat things like Nathan's hot dogs. It's totally cheesy, but fun. Same thing with the canal and gondola rides at the Venetian, it's a little lame, but that's why I go to Vegas. For the lameness!
poppydawn
Which tour was this? Was this the big Popmart opening night? I wish! It was the Vertigo tour. November, 2005 at the MGM Grand. It was a really great show. I saw them several times on that tour, and that was the best. There

Edie
I stayed at the Paris for about 10 days about a year ago. The location is great because it is pretty central on the strip. Ask for a newly decorated room overlooking the Bellagio fountains -- they are really nice. Also, gamble in the cheap places, not the big casinos. There is one across the street from Ballys that I play craps at ($5 table) and you can find $3 tables downtown. I played for about 10 hours over the 10 days I was there and made about $20 all told. Go to the Hard Rock hotel and have drinks in the center bar -- it's a hoot with the "chick in the tightest shortest dress" contest (and it's not a real contest, you would just think it is with all the chicks in tight short dresses). Also I love the Red Square vodka bar in Mandalay Bay. Really fun.

I did see three dates on the Elevation tour. 1 in Indy and 2 in Chicago. 2 of those shows i was on the floor, just a few feet from the stage. Great shows. I'm going to see the U2 3D movie this weekend.
borracho
buy a ticket to the Eiffel Tower at Paris and go to the top at night to see the Bellagio fountains across the street - best $7 you'll spend! pretty cool view of the strip, too... Cirque du Soleil's Ka blew my mind... go to any Cirque show, but be prepared to spend at least $65 or so for the cheap seats... i had the best steak (filet mignon) i've ever had at Hard Rock's steakhouse. $60 but so, so worth it... go downtown to some of the casinos. old school Vegas. pretty cool. you can also see some old neon signs from back in the day that have been restored there... everything is so over-the-top there, it is kind of silly... but fun! and wear good walking shoes - you're going to walk your ass off for sure... a.miller
Don't go with any idea that you will actually make any money when gambling. Seriously. I've seen people I know really well become totally engrossed in gambling when there -- people I would never have thought it would appeal to. Don't let yourself think, "I'll win it back." On a lighter, note...definitely walk through as many of the casinos that you can. There is fantastic art, etc. to see all over the place.

For Vertigo, I was at one of the Chicago shows that was recorded for the DVD, the Vegas show, and the St. Louis show. Got a few weeks until "U2 3D" get here, but I'm really looking forward to it.
