oh gosh....TONS of bands....i've discovered a whole new scene in southern illinois that i didn't even know existed when i was still living in chicago.

recently i've been way into secondary modern, himalayas, the black fortys and cleanray.

of course, i still love my old chicago favorites....andrew bird, the waco brothers....and some band called wilco.

I live in Florida now. The only ones I can think of are Backstreet Boys & Nsync.

I'm originally from New York though so Velvet Underground.

i am from ohio which has given us jason molina, joe walsh, and mark kozelek. not to mention my hometown dayton gave us GBV and the breeders...and of course, the ohio players. not a fan, but hung out with them at the dayton airport once.

You forgot Limp Bizkit! I also think Petty was based in Gainsville right or maybe he is from Indiana?

:lol Petty is not from Indiana ... he's a Gainesville boy.

Another good Florida band was For Squirrels. Also Crowsdell. Both sadly defunct. I think Less Than Jake is from Gainesville (but I don't think I've ever heard one of their songs). Don't forget the Miami Sound Machine! :stunned

As for Michigan ... well, we have Ted Nugent (:yucky) and Bob Seger (:mellow), but more importantly, we have the MC5 and Iggy Pop. Patti Smith now calls Michigan home. The White Stripes are from here.

One obscure but fantastic (defunct) band was The Fletcher Pratt. We're also home to people like the Verve Pipe, Sponge, and the Von Bondies.

Oh, and then there's Motown... :rock

I know I'm forgetting some big names.
