jakobnicholas
It was talked about a tiny bit on the night of the 5th show, but Tweedy really let it be known how much he HATES this song. I think he's nuts. Yeah, the lyrics may be a little cheesy for his liking, but I LOVE the music of this song. I even like that he sings no lyrics after saying he's "run out of metaphors". The song makes me think of some of those 70's am radio songs that you would never brag to your friends about liking, but when in the car by yourself, you'd crank it up.....maybe like Charlie Rich's "Very Special Love Song" or Mac Davis' "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me". (I hope Tweedy doesn't read this board. He might slit his wrists reading that some dork on Via Chicago compared him to Mac Davis.)
Guest Muncle Douchey
i have never liked that verse I'm like a songwriterYou're the reason I've run outRun out of metaphors but i love the song nonethesless. I don't think you even understand - love the way he sings that.
remphish1
I like it...cheesy sure but whatever! Got a good grove to it!
cryptique
A good song with a few really bad lyrics. If Jeff wrote a new lyric to cover that "songwriter ... metaphors" part, I'd love to hear that one played live once in a while.

Edie
(I hope Tweedy doesn't read this board. He might slit his wrists reading that some dork on Via Chicago compared him to Mac Davis.) He does from time to time. And yeah, not his best work.
MeDave
was one of my favorites on AM at the time - i love the feel and the sparse sound and the vibe it creates. i realize that where he's gone lyrically and musically in the intervening years that a three chord song with those lyrics mustn't feel like his best work - but its simple - it works. Chris_H_2
I like the quiet, banjo melody. But nothing really else sticks out from this song. It's just there.
Sir Stewart
It's not a bad tune - I loved that intro though. "Go to the bathroom, put your feet up, get a drink. This is fulfilling a contractual obligation."
Leo
It's no Poor Places, but certainly not the "polished-up piece of dog crap" Jeff proclaimed it to be on Tuesday night.
mathew
I think it perfectly summarizes the end of Jeff Tweedys first era as a songwriter and if the inspration that must have been a rush to create Being There didnt come than this could have been the end and Jeff Tweedy would have been the other guy in Uncle Tupelo but destiny didnt work that way.All in all A.M is a stoner record that has moments of pure joy and pure sadness but lyricaly it sounds like all improvisation its very hilarious how few sillabouls these songs contain and even more so when compared to something like ITTBYH-before Jeff Tweedy was a poet he was a stoner sweet meleody in this song though ! so for that I do like it and I do love the rest of a.m for the same reason plus it feels like a really punk record i think the real question should be Thats not the issue-crap or not crap

Tweedy's Gurl
C'mon, that's my favorite part of the song! So bad its good, somehow... i gotta agree with that. i love it. it's one of those songs that doesn't have to be 'good' to be good. musically, it's very pretty....i agree with chris about the banjo part. So Long
I love the song.
Sir Stewart
It's kind of ironic that this tune was followed by "What Light", which could have had the same intro.I dig "What Light" to some extent, but still, I thought it was funny.
junkiesmile
Add me to the list of people who love this song. It feels like it took no effort to create but yet it's still insinuating and catchy. And in my opinion it's not as corny lyrically as some other songs on AM like say maybe Box Full of Letters or Passenger Side or Casino Queen(still love all of them).
