Long time listener, first time caller.

I have seen Wilco 6 times previous to last evening.

Suffice it to say, last night was, without question (and it's really not even close) the best show I've ever seen Wilco play. The quality of the show inspired me to register and post this.

It wasn't just the set list. The sound was ridiculously good. The crowd was great. The band has never been tighter.

Perhaps most important, for a band that can sometimes be a bit laid back in terms of pace (which I like), they blistered through 19 songs in the first 90 minutes, often with no stopping in between. For all the songs they played, the whole thing only took about 2hrs and 10 mins.

Definitely a lot of authorized videotaping going on, and there was a taper at the back. Someone needs to track that recording down.

John Doe is a talented musician. I appreciate his abilities but I just wasn't into it at all. Sort of static music. At least to me anyways.

Pretty sure aside from the camera crew, there was a taper there too.

Oh, boy were there tapers. You don't even know. But I think there were enough just "regular" tapers that a recording will get out sooner than later. I was practically tripping over stands at the back by the soundboard.

And as for John Doe, I thought he was really, really good. The "The New World" flowing into the Beatles' "Revolution" was very cool and the stuff off his latest solo album "A Year in the Wilderness" sounded great live. The woman singing with him (I guess sort of in the Exene role), Cindy Wasserman, seems like one of the nicest people ever. You should definitely get there early to check John and his band out. Heck, Nels plays a song with them and Jeff said none of the Wilco guys would be where they are if not for John Doe. That's a pretty dang good endorsement. :thumbup

Hope tonight's setlist is as interesting. Thanks NPR!
Here, Here!

It's positively killing me I can't be there tonight with all y'all. I need to rinse out this nasty taste in my mouth called Upper Darby, PA. :yucky

I'll be tuning in tonight just the same. Here's hoping they pull out all the stops!

cheers,

Kevin

Pretty sure aside from the camera crew, there were approximately 8,003 tapers there too.

There, fixed it for you! :)

I thought John Doe's performance catchy and dynamic and wonderful. I'm really looking forward to seeing them again. And the Revolution segue was so reminiscent of the Jon Brion at Martyrs one that I almost jumped out of my skin.

Wait.......I m confused? Are they playing Outta Site from Disk 2 or 1 from Being There recently? If it is 2 paint me jealous!

Nope, except for the one residency show, they've just been doing the standard rockin' Outtasite (Outta Mind). Not to be confused with Outta Mind (Outta Sight).

For me, one of the funniest parts of last night's show for me (other than the bra incident) was when they went into Outtasite after Monday, which apparently wasn't planned. Anyway, the Total Pros didn't know what was going on and once they realized they didn't know or have a part in the song, they all sort of slunk away off stage. Jeff later apologized for surprising them with that one. :lol

Damn, I knew I should've gone...I've traveled to the DC area for shows before, I could've done it again I guess. Then again, I did have a ride back to Philly last time.

That's hilarious about the girl throwing her bra onstage. I saw Lindsey Buckingham (of Fleetwood Mac fame) at the Fillmore in Philly last year. Two girls threw their panties onstage; one landed near Lindsey and one near the keyboard player. The other guitarist said he was pissed off that he didn't get any thrown to him, at which point the keyboard player threw him the panties that landed near him. :lol

Fantastic show last night, it was my 7th and bar far the best I have seen since 02. I ran into Pat and Mikael after the show and they seemed very pleased with the show. Pat thanked my buddy and laughed about him telling Jeff to turn him up early on in the show. They did say, not burst any bubbles, that they were going to play the same setlist tonight. But I couldnt tell if they were being sarcastic or not. But if they plan on filming again, I wouldnt be surprised if they play a similar setlist to get better sound/more takes for what could ultimately be a DVD release. We'll see.

That part about Jeff saying that Wilco wouldn't be where they were if not for John Doe warms my heart. I hear many similarities between early UT and mid 80's X, hell come to think of it that's only a few years apart. I really wish I could see him on this tour, but the residency just about bankrupt me.

I wouldn't be too heartbroken with some repeats, particularly with that set.

Chris, I didn't either; but things change. At one point I didn't like Company in my back, and now its a fav.

Anyway, that setlist is just ridiculous and I can't wait to see a DVD :)

Tonight's show is also being filmed.

Was good to see a few of you, though circumstances didn't allow for much interaction. Always good to see some familiar faces.

Had a blast at the show. One of the best Wilco shows I've seen. Very cool to hear Just A Kid. I'd never heard it in a concert setting before and thought it was great.
