Beltmann
The DVD portion of this was quite underwhelming.Agreed. As a fan of filmmaking, I suppose I appreciated what Moon was trying to pull off, but as a fan of the band, it didn't give me what I was hoping for. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would have much preferred a more conventional take... The EP was a little underwhelming, too, but definitely a pleasant listen. GtrPlyr
Agreed. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would have much preferred a more conventional take...I'm with you Beltman. As a film buff myself, I appreciate that the filmmaker was trying to make something a bit more artistic and abstract than the usual rock doc. Unfortunately, what we end up with is a film that is for the most part devoid of any insight, and music for that matter. A more traditional behind the scenes doc would've suited me just fine. You know, something with interviews, and artists talking about inspirations and the art of creation, and some full song performances and stuff like that. At least the E.P. was better, though not essential to be sure.

Is it formally released as a soundtrack or is it just his recommendation for a playlist?

lizish
i might have to check out some pelecanos books. didn't realize he was involved with the wire. There is some comment by David Simon that when he had first finished reading 'Clockers' he got really discouraged from trying to bring the Corner and the Wire to life. Someone had beaten him to the punch. I guess if you can't beat him, you get him to join. Oh ho hoIt's Magic!
