Now Playing, June 2008

Recommended Posts

it's feckin' great

leaked a week or two ago. there's a few so-so tracks, but on the whole i like it more than Kevin Drew's i think.

Hit The Wall and Love Is New are up there w/ BSS's better songs for me

It's an odd album I think. It's not quite one thing or the other. It's a bit straight in places and it does descend into radio-fodder in places, but there's some great tracks on there... I think Canning would have preferred just to have done another instrumental album though, his vocals are so low in the mix.

April Sun Kil Moon

Saw Kozelek play last night and it was really good. It was low key. He played in a small-ish theater at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, so the sound was excellent but for some reason in that venue, the audience never talks between songs. The quiet seemed to freak him out a bit. He played acoustic with another guitarist (Phil?). They played a range of stuff, mostly Sun Kil Moon.

But, to my dismay, he did not play Carry Me Ohio.

just saw him in milwaukee last weekend and it was really great. The crowd was pretty talkative and that seemed to freak him out a bit. I guess he can't make up his mind. He played a lot of modest mouse which was pretty nice to hear.

I do love this record. It has to be one of the best honky tonk records ever.
