Via Chicago's Top 100 Albums of All Time: Summer 2008 edition

Recommended Posts

OK, if you've submitted your vote, you should have received an e-mail back from me (I just got caught up). If you haven't received a return e-mail, let me know.

We've got over 400 different albums on the list, and there is some interesting stuff on there. :dancing Although even having said that, I'd still like to see a lot more responses! I know it's human nature to put it off until the last minute, but remember, there's only a little more than a week left. Get those votes in!

I should see if that Adblock extension works on whiteholes who don't like my list!

Your list is fabulous, Sir. However, it's merely a list of your favorite 20 albums in descending order, as are all the other entries. There's little room for "most accurate."

In my most accurate opinion, of course.

You should add Master of Puppets and Appetite for Destruction to your list and then send me a link to download your compilation.

Appetite made my list. Master wouldn't make my "TOP 1000."

Your list made me wonder: What are the best self-titled albums of all-time? Hmmm, might be time for a new thread! (I'll wait until this one is in the can.)

Looking over my list, i see that I am pretty top heavy on the 60s which I would have predicted going in. I have to admit it feels a bit odd to see YHF on top of those albums. Not sure why it feels odd, but it does. YHF is certainly my favorite, but I wonder if some of its appeal to me is that I feel like it's mine. I discovered it, I lived it. Albums 2-10 are too great to be any lower on the list, but they were never mine. They were someone else's.

I largely agree, but I still feel Blood on the Tracks is Dylan's most overrated album. Nice to see East Side Story there, I remember how that album clocked me over the head when it came out.

I'm very excited to see this list when it comes out ...

Some of your lists are blowing me away. :wub

I realize ths is the "VC's Top 100 Albums of All Time," but will you list the also-rans in order, or at all? :worship

As somebody who has always appreciated, but never really enjoyed Dylan, I have to disagree with your statement re: Blood On the Tracks. It was that album that recently converted me to a fan who actually enjoys his music. It just blew me away.

Yeah, East Side Story. Tilbrook's biggest hit was a song he gave to someone else to sing. Pretty amazing. I still think Argy Bargy is better. Hard to think of a better 1-2 punch than Pulling Mussels>Another Nail.

Not sure what you mean by BOTT being Dylan's most overrated album. Do you mean it's great, but not as good as others he's done? Or not that good?

It's accessible. Tangled Up in Blue plays well on the radio. It's interesting to see him in concert and most of the time that's the one song that people belt out the words to. I can understand your view, but I we'll agree to disagree. Your comment about "appreciated, but never really enjoyed Dylan" IMHO, underscores the accessibility issue. Ol Bob's meandered broadly through the years, and this album is a common place to pick up the trail. His side paths are difficult to reach but more rewarding.

It's a great album. He's done better. In the grand scheme of this project, lesser artists' best work is better than Dylan's results here, again IMHO.

When I was in college someone had Argy Bargy and would constantly play it in the newsroom of the college paper. When those songs came around, I would forget whatever I was doing -- dead silence during an interview, stop in mid-sentence. I think a lot of artists have mimicked that octave harmony style right from Squeeze and don't realize it.
